  1. Electro Harmonix Battalion - for the ££ it performs really well and up there with the Ampeg, Sansamp and other offerings - a proper sleeper bargain if you are after a preamp DI with a reasonable distortion onboard. It's been on my mini-pedalboard with a tuner and wireless receiver for a good 4 months and gets out regularly for live work.
  2. Apparently this was the bass used on the Travis song "Driftwood" Ahem.
  3. Yeah, but it looks like it’s aimed at Captain Birdseye or Spongebob...
  4. I have a QSC 10.2 and don’t use it at home - it’s too much. I think therefore it depends on room size - my small mancave practice room suits studio monitors but a 10.2 is just a bit too much. Two of them would be ridiculous.
  5. If you want something left field, you could try a Wegen pick.. https://www.wegenpicks.com I have a few for mandolin and they are awesome (if pricey). I'm a fingers bass player so use pick very rarely - but I've tried a few wegen picks with bass and they are fantastic
  6. Well it’s back on the cards for it I have a feeling this one is a bit special. I very much doubt I’d ever let this one go - but my policy is usually to go back to the point of origin for first dibs
  7. I use a pair of studio monitors with my Helix and they sound superb in my room...
  8. Spoken to Alan on email. Wow, quick response - thanks Alan! He’s pricing me up a P-Retro harness and I’ll stick one extra hole in so I can keep the series/parallel switch, with an extra dpdt for passive/active and the usual p-retro setup. Should give loads of extra tonal variety and still gives me those two basic passive tones which I like already. Top stuff. Once ordered and here I’ll do a mini-upgrade blog here..
  9. In that case “you’re fired!”
  10. Need to update your Tetanus before playing that...
  11. Ah ok thanks - have dropped him an email from the website. I’ll see if he responds and if not will try here too.
  12. I have emailed Alan for advice. Will report back
  13. Drop him an email maybe? Hmm. Worth a go. I wonder what size knobs fit the p-retro knobs...?
  14. Thanks all - not sure best way to go about getting Alan’s input - I don’t want to disturb him when I didn’t even buy this bass new from him! Is the p-retro Pre-amp available as a stand-alone purchase?
  15. Some of you may remember I have an oddball ACG Finn 4 - it’s the one Alan made for charity, and I got it from Bigwan on here a little while back. It has one of the excellent PB pickups in, with a Series/Parallel switch and then passive vol and tone. It’s routed for a battery box and has one installed - so I’m thinking it’s time to upgrade to a Pre-amp. I like the two knob arrangement so I’m tempted to put a Bartolini HR 2.2AP/918 in which means volume with push pull active/passive and stacked bass/treble. I’ll retain the series parallel switch as I really like the tonal contrast - more than you’d think tbh. Anyone got any thoughts or any alternate suggestions?
  16. Compact setup and FRFR is de rigeur. I start the trends others have been doing for years
  17. It’s nice to see my thread running long term Welcome to any new FRFR converts as well. My K10.2 is still number 1 stage choice..
  18. As the OP I kinda feel I should contribute again! Took it to a guitar jam day where I was bassing - range of rehearsal rooms, and a range of guitars/amps and all with drums. As expected it performed flawlessly.. loads of headroom and plenty of lower frequencies. Fitted in beautifully with some high end boutique guitar amps and some big monsters too
  19. Just on bass response - I'm a 4'er so I can't comment on bass response on a 5'er at all..
  20. He might not move about much but saying he has a ply body is a bit harsh!
