A lighter gauge strings and low action could make a difference too. Of course an on board preamp helps to control the frequencies, but the controls on an amp can achieve that too.

Maybe it helps a bit to toy with the pickup heights and balance between them.. you can lose that deep clarity if they are too close to the strings. Jazzes can sound a bit different from each other though. My '81 has that very clear and warm jazz sound, where my former 71 definitely had more pronounced mids.

I have them slanted, adjusted to the string heights/curve. I don't measure but just use my ears. I put the pickup as close to the strings as possible, but where the strings do not touch the pickup while playing and no weird sounds or distortion occur.

Music Man Stingray 1982 Very nice Pre-EB Stingray in good old sunburst finish: The bass is in very good condition for it's age. Everything works like it should and the neck is straight and adjustable. There is some bucklerash on the back as well as other small blemishes around. On the headstock, there is some discoloured area on the back, which seems due to moist because of cracked lacquer. Playability is good with a low action and sounds tremendous with either rounds or flats. It now has been fitted with fresh nps rounds. Weight is 4.5kg on my kitchen scale. The very rare and original cream corduroy case is included in the sale. As you can see it has seen some action, but it's still functional. One latch tends to pop open, so might need a repair if you want to use this case instead of storing it. Asking €3.250 I am located in the Netherlands, but I am happy to ship at buyers risk. (Partial) trades are negotiable. I'm interested in a good 60s type jazz bass (roadworn or Avri per example), Ampeg v4b, mustang bass (jmj or vintage) or maybe a good solid state head like Gallien-Krueger RB series. Also a fender Jazzmaster guitar could be of interest. I've got more stuff to add in a trade if something really nice (read; cool vintage Fender) is being offered. Sensible offers only please.

Gretsch White Falcon Bass Very nice Gretsch semi-hollow with classy (kinda flamboyant) looks, and a good range of great sounds. The bass is in very good condition. It has some blemishes on the protective backpad from a stand, but otherwise I haven't seen any damages. The Falcon comes with it's original case with keys, certificate of authenticity, other paperworks and a truss rod tool. Currently it's fitted fit optima gold rounds that the previous owner put on the bass. They match with the look of the bass very well, but are actually a bit too short. So the thinner tapered parts of the strings are resting in the nut. I got this bass in a trade, but don't need it myself. I've decided not to change the strings on forehand as I don't know the future buyers taste. Asking €2.950 I am located in the Netherlands, but I am happy to ship at buyers risk. (Partial) trades are negotiable. I'm interested in a good 60s type jazz bass (anything from better Squier and up), Ampeg v4b, mustang bass (jmj or vintage) or maybe a good solid state head like Gallien-Krueger RB series. Also a fender Jazzmaster guitar could be of interest. I've got more stuff to add in a trade if something really nice (read; cool vintage Fender) is being offered. Sensible offers only please.

Very cool and rarely offered Ampeg Reverberocket R50H guitar head from the '90s. This amp just sounds amazing with guitar and goes plenty loud. It has nice cleans but has some nice drive available. As most tube amps it will probably serve well with bass too, though I haven't tried it on a proper bass cab (yet) to be honest. The head is used but in good condition. I just received it back from a check-up. The tubes are still good and everything works fine. The original footswitch is included. The label says it's a 120 volts amp, but this is not correct (wrong label or modded) as it works on the European network. Asking €650 I am located in the Netherlands, but I am happy to ship at buyers risk and expense. As you see on the last picture, I have the matching cab too. It's available for sale , but I can't offer that one to be shipped. The cab is not included in the mentioned pricing.

I like both rounds and flats on jazzes. I currently have elixirs on my ash/maple '81 Fender for that clear and deep (more modern) sounds, and La Bella 760fl on the '66 Fender which sound outstanding... A few years ago I would have laughed of you told me I was going to prefer flats... Now they're my fave. Old rounds can indeed sound pretty well on some basses
