Hi Dave , sorry for late response. Could you let me know the actual weight of the bass please. Thanks Chris
Hi Chris. Weighed it 3 times lol. It says 9lb 2oz on every try! Never weighed a guitar before. It certainly feels lighter than my mid 90's ray
hi Very tempted for this one - I am in south London, how far south would you be prepared to come for a meet/purchase? Chris
Hi Chris I would be prepared to travel up to an hour so that would be to the M62 at Howden/Goole. I know that leaves a good drive for you but trust me, the bass is worth the drive! I hope this helps. Thanks. Dave
Picked one of these up recently myself. They are something special. For some reason mine sounds different from 'lesser' 3 band rays I've owned (very smooth sound) - no idea why. GLWTS
Thanks. They really are special. Someone will get a great bass!

This looks like it just came out of the shop. Amazing blue/silver sparkle finish that changes colours from different angles. 3 band EQ. I would like a Fender Precision custom shop bass. Current Musicman Stingray build quality
Atomic dustbin replied to Quatschmacher's topic in Bass Guitars
I have just been lucky enough to get my hands on a PDN Stingray Starry night bass made last year (obviously). The fit and finish, playability and sound is top notch. I own 2 Gibson Les Paul Customs too that were made in the last 5 years and they are not even nearly as perfect as this. Gibson need a tour round the musicman factory to see how it should be done! -

Ernie Ball Musicman Starry Night Stingray 4 - Limited Edition
Hello all, For sale is my absolutely stunning, brand new, barely unplayed MM Stingray 4, starry night. This is the single pickup version. The bass is in pristine, AS NEW and ungigged condition and still has all the plastics intact (pick guard film and even the bar code / serial on the back from the factory) .. RRP is £1899 on these so it's a tidy enough discount considering it is brand new. Comes in OHSC and even the MM cardboard box Spec info can be found here: https://www.music-man.com/pdn/starry-night Any questions, feel free. Reason for sale is purely down to an opportunity coming up to finally get my mittens on a pre-cbs P - the one I've wanted though, not just any! Thanks for reading, NO TRADES Peter
-
I think I finally understand Radiohead
Atomic dustbin replied to BassAgent's topic in General Discussion
I'd be interested in when you first heard Radiohead - their stuff after OK Computer can be a bit, ahem, challenging, and even their more popular early stuff can take a bit of getting in to. I do sometimes wonder with bands like this who have a lot of success early on whether later listeners can get the wrong impression. For instance, if you were wondering why everybody loves AC/DC so you bought their latest album to see what they're like you'd probably be thinking "well I'm not sure what the fuss is about".
I think you put that quite well. If I had heard Kid A first I would never have listened to them again! I first heard them when I saw them live. A wall of sound! I went straight out and bought the tape. Still got it I think. What you said about ACDC is probably something I could say about a lot of bands over the years. Manic Street Preachers definitely fall into that category for me. -

Radiohead are the only support band I have seen that were better than the main act at Hull tower ballroom when Pablo Honey came out. I undertsood them then but since the Bends album I have found them impossible to listen to, let alone understand. Quite the opposite to you! -
Saw them at Bridlington Spa years ago. One gig I won't forget!
This is not helping my Stingray GAS at all.....
Don't fight the feeling Chili. You know you need a Stingray😃
That looks fabulous Pete. A lovely soft burst. Tastefully done. Here is my Sledge.
I think I have a new screensaver! That bass looks fantastic. That neck figuring is amazing. Thanks for sharing and thanks to Pete too. Both amazing instruments.
They are basically very similar to fiesta red - indeed the initial ones made were called that. They're quite pink in some lights but range from deeper red to almost orange dependent on light conditions - they can appear quite pale pink under fluorescent tube lighting. Looks great in combination with the highly figured maple neck. The natural colour wasn't introduced on the classic Stingray until three or maybe five years back.
Maybe thats why the classic I saw in Coral didn't grab me, because it has a rosewood board not figured maple. The more I look at it, the more I like it though.
Mine is Tobacco Burst which is another early colour changed to retroburst was it DrT? Being a May 2010 it's very early for a UK five string.
Much as I love the late 80s/90s Stingrays, the Classics have one or two extra features - the one which most appeals to me is strings through bridge - to my mind this adds quite a bit of sustain. However the neck radius is different and they have skinny vintage frets. These basses are absolutely top notch. I have a coral red one - very nice indeed, in fact quite gorgeous, but some people prefer the more classic (for MM) colours (natural/sunburst). The coral red colour was only made for about 12 months so there aren't that many around.
Thanks dr T I do prefer the natural finishes. I didn't know they only did them for about a year in Coral. The one I saw was 2011 I think. It looks a little bit pink to me. Maybe it was just the photos I saw.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I will try and pick up a used one first. I saw one for £1200 but not sure if the Coral Red colour is for me. I'm not in a rush to buy so I can wait for the right one to come up for sale. It sounds like there is much love for the classic! Thanks

Hi all. I currently have a mid 90's MM Stingray 4 , 2 band eq and love the thing. It's one of my best gear purchases ever. I'm thinking of getting a Stingray classic 4 too. I'm a total sucker for birdseye! My questions are.... Will there be enough of a difference soundwise to my Stingray? Will they sound almost identical? I know there are differences such as radius, slab body etc. Anyone with experience of both? I only started bass after years of playing guitar 6 months ago and have never had the chance to play a Classic Stingray. Wish I had picked up bass years ago. Cheers
