What's there to 'get' ? It's music the same as thrash metal, funk, blues and any other genre you care to name. Why do people post threads about not getting jazz ? You never see threads about not getting blues, or thrash or punk. Jazz is far more accessible than thrash death metal or whatever.

Tell them about this thread. Bad publicity generally works wonders.

I just got my new DB today, and very nice it is too. It needs setting up though, and I want a pickup fitting to it. I live just outside Birmingham, any suggestions as to where to take it please ? Thanks .

I'm getting this tomorrow http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=98434 I'm going to need to get a gig bag for it (I'm bringing it home wrapped in a duvet ). Can anyone recommend a nice one that's not too expensive. I also need to get a pickup fitted to it, so again any recommendations would be most welcome. One last thing , does anyone know where I can get it set up and have the pickup fitted, I live in Birmingham. Thanks !

The Superquad is an excellent cable, but really too long for me, consequently it's never been used. The Original is also in perfect condition. The Superquad is 6 metres long, with an angled jack at one end and a straight jack at the other - £15 including postage. The Original is 3 metres long and is straight jack to straight jack - £10 including postage - SOLD.
I don't have a MM bass or even a MM pup in front of me but is it not possible to simply remove the plastic pup surround and replace that with a 'sealed' top (a la Bartolini/EMG) cover... failing that if the plastic surround comes off can you fit a spacer that will mean the pole pieces are dropped below the level of the surround (in my mind I know what I'm talking about, even if nobody else does ). I am just thinking out loud here and it might be a completely sealed unit for all I know!
I know what you're saying. I was having a similar problem on my fretless '62 jazz. I put some folded paper under the pickup cover, between the poles. Just to lift the cover off the pickup by a few millimeters.

I too find that I catch my fingers on the pole peices if I play directly above the pickup. I just lower the pickup enough so that it doesn't happen. I play with a 'free stroke' similar to Tony Grey, I doubt it'd happen too much using a rest stroke where you're using a 'flatter' finger. (Hard for me to explain sorry) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OL4GDaulw1Q
