Rothwell Love Squeeze Compresor and Boss Power supply.

It's a shame you can't try cabs in a gig situation, 'cos that's when you use them. I always found the 2 Epifani 4x10's that I had to be 'muffled'. They were quite mid shy but very warm sounding, so I don't think that'd be your best choice. The Aguilar GS cabs are similar, mid shy but warm sounding. The Aguilar DB cabs are I think warm but with a more pronounced mid focus, and that would be my recommendation. They're also more reasonably priced. The best guy to ask is Ken Jung on talkbass, he's tried pretty much every cab/amp combination on the planet. Most people will only recommend what they use themselves, and if they've been duped into buying something overpriced and 'boutique' then they'll try and talk you into that. Try experimenting with your EQ settings. I've tried loads of cabs over the last few years. Bergs are way over priced for what they are, and have a 'sound' that if you like it then great, if not you have to try and get rid of it. The same goes for Epifani.

Stingray Choice - 2EQ, 3EQ, or Classic (again!)
solofunkyjazz replied to Musicman20's topic in Bass Guitars
Really though how different can a Classic be to my EB? Mine is in need of a setup which I think will make more of a difference when its done on tuesday. http://imageevent.com/nicksguitars/stingra...m8rp5y2.zebra_s What about this? 2 band, mutes and well known as great age for necks half the price of a Classic!
Totally off topic I know . How high is the action on your bass ? I've got a '96 natural Stingray 4. I've tried to fit the mutes but the screw things that hold the mutes down catch on the strings. I do have the action very low on my bass. It only happens if I try to raise the mutes so that they touch the strings. -
Demeter, Diamond, EBS multicomp or BBE optostomp
solofunkyjazz replied to stevieb85's topic in Effects
Just as a follow up to this, I sold the Demeter as I didn't find myself using Compression, but decided to try out the Aguilar TLC - The thing is now on constantly! It's 4 knobs give it a lot of control for a pedal compressor and they interact really well with eachother, making it a pretty straight forward and awesome sounding unit. I love it!
I think that when people who try a compressor find they don't use it so much, it's down to the actual compressor that they try. Some really, really colour the sound and have a very 'squishy' effect on the sound. When you try a really good and really uncoloured compressor then you'll end up using it a lot more. The Rothwell Love Squeeze which isn't on your list is an excellent one. You truly don't notice it, until you switch it off and then you want to switch it back on. -
im tempted to go for the bbe, mainly because of the price? for you folks that have one, does it have a problem with buzzing, as i have an ashdown compressor and its bloody noisy
The one I had didn't buzz, it just sounded horrible. Very, very coloured. Save up and buy used. -
Practically brand new, just a few weeks old. I want to get something else instead though, possibly the Aguilar TLC. This is what the guy from talkbass has to say about this. http://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/rothwell.shtml It comes complete with all original packaging and a new boss 9v power supply. £100 posted.

This is a reluctant sale but I really want an SR5. I'm also selling a Fender Jazz Deluxe 5, if that goes first then I'll pull this. It's the best looking Marcus Miller bass that I've seen. It has some beautiful figuring on the body, neck and the headstock. It's in excellent condition, no marks or scratches at all on the bass. Some minor swirls from finger nails on the scratchplate. It has a really nice low action, and plays great. It's strung with DR Marcus Miller Low beam strings, I'll include a spare set with the bass. Comes with a Fender tweed gigbag. £650 including shipping or you can collect it from Birmingham.

I took this in a trade earlier in the year, but there's a rather nice SR5 for sale that I fancy. It's a really beautiful looking bass, and is in nice condition. It does have a couple of small marks on the body (nothing really visible), and a couple of marks on the back of the neck. I did ask John Diggins if it'd be possible to have the neck sanded and refinished to get rid of these, he said it'd be a really easy job and not cost a lot to do. I never really noticed these when playing, I've only mentioned them because they're there. I think it's about 10 years old. It's finished in a translucent red with a pearl white pickguard, it has a maple fingerboard. It has a superb low action, and sounds great it has a very modern sound that really cuts through in a live situation. It has Fender low noise pickups, and a very versatile Fender preamp. Currently strung with DR Lo-rider nickel strings. It comes with a Fender hardcase. My apologies for the very poor photographs, they were taken by the previous owner on his phone. I'm away until the weekend, but I'll post some better ones then, if the bass is still around. Interested parties are welcome to call around and see the bass in person though. I'd like a very reasonable £600 plus shipping, or you can collect it from Birmingham.
"... yer bedda slur, da mustang da!" Worst-case scenario: Every weekend, for the rest of your miserable life.
I really honestly can't remember the last time I had to play that, and I gig on average 3 or 4 times a week.
