Don't think they understand 'irony', which is ironic given Alanis Morrisette's hit.....
Love the irony in that song! lol http://www.salon.com/2014/05/08/what_everybody_gets_wrong_about_alanis_morissettes_ironic_partner/ http://www.isitironic.com/alanis-morissette.htm
So did I Markbass stuff sounds good, but I couldn't live with the look of those heads. I once test-drove a used Merc - perfect match for what I wanted, FMBSH, drove like a dream - but the dashboard was 50/50 caramel and tan. I knew I couldn't live with that either! Shallow? Moi?
Same! Was looking at an Alfa Romeo 159 JTD, sleek black, beautiful condition and key fob operation - very sexy! That was until I saw the interior - yeeuch! Light tan leather, completely ruined it for me! I'll join you in the shallow pit.

Had many amps, cabs and combinations of both however, I've realised over the years, the amp for me and one I always return to is an Ampeg SVT-3pro. Tried loads of other things but nothing fixes my needs as this amp does. The silly point though is, I must pair it with an Ampeg cab. There are lots of better cabs out there but I need to have the 'rig'. My last big rig was an SVT-CL paired with an Hartke AK410 which is just an Ampeg 410he but that rig is away. My current gig rig is an SVT-3pro and two SVT 2x10 cabs - looks the business!
I'm delivering a boat to Scotland this weekend, coming home with an empty estate car and a very full wallet. Detour to Edinburgh is very tempting!
Let us know how you got on.

I should've made that statement more clear in that, every bass player should own - at least for a a day or two! lol Doesn't take long to realise how amazing they are but as you say, weight, storage and transport are a nightmare. But WOW 😱

Every bass player has to own an SVT Classic and 810e cab! Industry standard and apprenticeship requirements!! 😎

Once opened all became clear. It's another 12ax7.
Hmmm, Folkestone to Edingburgh... Quite a way for a bass chat relay of an 8x10! Why are all the good deals up North?!
I suspect you could chat with them to pack it and you could organise a courier to collect?
Good Lord... I wish you hadn't divulged this information. It's even worth the schlep up north. Thinkofyourherniathinkofyourherniathinkofyourherniathinkofyourherniathinkofyourhernia... keep repeating and move slowly away from the thread. I'm sure a nice Barefaced cab would be better for me, honestly!! A bargain for a Scot with a Scrotum of Steel!
Lol aye my scrot has definitely reduced in size and fortitude in last few years. Good bargain for someone 😎

Whilst in Edinburgh city centre yesterday, I visited Duncanson's pawn shop. They always have a great window display of guitars and related tech. I noticed they had an ampeg classic on display reduced from £1250 to £841, it is in pristine condition but too pricey however, I went inside and found the matching cab there too. The lady on sales spoke to me about it for a while and then dropped the bombshell or opportunity ... AMPEG SVT CLASSIC AND MATCHING 8x10e cab together for £841 😱 Thought I'd pass it on so, here's the link to shop. http://www.duncansonedwards.co.uk/pawnbroking.html
The LH heads were never designed to distort just have masses of clean head room - actually something I preferred them for.
For this very reason, the LH series is the best plug and play amp I have ever used. No hiding with them at all and that eq?? Lol awesome! Given the price they go for used, I wouldn't think twice about buying one should the need arise.

I had a v4 mk1 220w beast! It was just a turn on monster of a valve amp. However, it had little issues too as mentioned above re thin sounding after a while and some control issue. I got it serviced and was told by the tech that they were definitely not designed for the road. Cicuit boards and soldering were a bit suspect. I guess this will be the same with most modern valve amps that are not point to point soldered. Loved my SVT Classic more though but the weight ... wow! I love valve amps and couldn't live without one therefore and as I'm nearly 50, I've compromised and now own two small ashdown valve heads: CTM-15 & LB30. Awesome 😎

I always put one of these on my precisions as I think they are stunning, solid and create a lovely string tone. Cheap enough to bring in from America too.

Hi ye all Hopefully someone will know the answer to my question. As per the Ashdown website, the LB30 has a 12ax7 (83) and an 12au7 (82) however, when checking how to disassemble it to change the valves, it appears as though there maybe 3 preamp valves?? See link to image below: https://ampstack.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/dscf1465.jpg Can any one shed light on this as I've ordered the 83 and 82 as well as a matched set of EL84s - all electro-harmonix? Feels like I've missed something now cheers all Andy
