New Fender MIM Player series replaces Standard
Chaddy replied to Gottastopbuyinggear's topic in Bass Guitars
Weight different at all? or just neck wood? -
From my understanding the wood on the neck have changed from rosewood due to the protected status adding £70 feeds , so the neck's are a lighter shade. might be why they decided to revamp the bodies ( Alder wood 2/3 piece? ) . Pickups changed and hardware updated abit? Im still trying to work out the best option as I keep looking at Swamp Ash tobacco stained, Black guard with maple neck Jazz's... . bit hard to find a Jazz in that range where a kidney doesnt need sold

Hi Marshall 4x12 VBC Bass Cabinet 400Watt 4 ohm . One speaker is slighty "fuzzy" and has a noisy coil . This goes away if the paper around the cone is pressed gently to dampen. Bought this 2 weeks from North east bass bin, Tried it out for half a hour and when getting home noticed it had a slight rattle. ( sods law ) . The rest of the speakers are fine, as their're not the 1st in the chain. Cab has usual gigging wear and tear. The bottom has a wood bottom with new casters added by last owner. Not really after the sound upon doing more of a play with the cabinet. Open to trades and can drop off for 50p per mile within reason. PM For more info. MARSHALL VBC 412 FEATURES: Power Handling (RMS): 400W Impedance: 4 Ohms Weight (Kg): 49 Dimensions (mm): 765 x 760 x 383

I wouldn't get the PF range of cabs. They generally do "Honk" even with swapping the head around and spending ages on E.Q trying to get rid off. Try some local shops? PMT have 4x10 ashdowns/fenders etc for £400 - £550 . Take your head down and have a whirl if your serious about buying one

Worst bass you've ever played that you did not own.
Chaddy replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in Bass Guitars
Was all stock , Just the feel of it was just , Dunno ? From memory I remember looking at it closely for any tail tell signs for example the scatchplate had been took off etc but looked neat as was pretty new . Just didnt appeal.. even the pickup plastic was poor. - Could say that for all new Fenders as well lol Aye yammays are good, Ive got two RBXA2 's , one a 5 string black thats been modded with some SD's and its a dream to play for me. Unique as well as no one else has one like it that I have EVER come across. - Worth a punt as there are a few online for £200 if you can grab one -

A Grands worth of Music man bass , Crap neck with a weird feel and fit that didnt match the string spacing and build quality./ feel was cheap cheap cheap. Sounded like a £50 quid Tanglewood from Cash Converters - Which is oddly what the College also had in stock with strings that were 3 years old . Same feel! urrgh. the 2nd was a ARIA Jazz copy , Bought on a whim, and gone after one gig. Went back to Yamaha full time and havent looked back since ( Bar a Chinese warwick ) -
Depends what you want to pay! Ashdown Combos around £300, or Fenders / Blackstar ones are £500 for anything decent. Might be ideally to go on FB bassplayers market etc and grab a 2nd hand one if you want to save

Cheers for the reply Mr Tiger, I've been humming and harring over what to get next but I do remember a 1x15 with a 2x10 ( be that Marshall ) had the nice deep low but able to handle that mid range bite and sparkle. I'm not sure if this is just myself in my head remembering it differently but it was noticeable at venues etc . I've had 2x10's since then with Ampeg PF cab's etc , but currently got a crappy TC Electronic 4x10 to throw around and abuse ( £80! ) . Just a future venture of looking around , its just the prices that off put me even touching a new cab sadly as they all seem to be crap chip board and a " off shore " speaker

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1018755/Tech-21-Vt-Bass-500.html?page=9#manual Theres some recommend settings on here you could give a whirl if you a VT or sansamp ( drive blend etc )
-
2x10 / 4x10 with a 15 i find its the nail on the head for smaller venues if the p.a has no bins the 15th Def makes a difference for low end even if "moving air" is more on a 4x10
-
Not to bump this up or anything Ive been using the Tech 21 VT500 head that has the VT built in. Its pretty darn good over all for a "cheap" head . Controls are easy to use though the d.i at the front etc is abit odd l The only thing I have noticed is when the character dial is turned when the blend is up is that its horribly noisy, this can be countered by turning the blend down. Current settings are drive around 10 o'clock. Mids 9 or just below, bass and treble at 1/2 o clock with blend at full gives a lush deep with a high sparkle sound.

In your experience, how are these cabs? Been looking around myself for 1x15s atm

I wonder if they get better priced and also, better made I own two yammy basses already!

I'm after a hard flight case instead of a small gig bag
-
Morning I'm having abit of a mare trying to find a decent double ended case for a Tech 21 VT 500 - There is the option for 19" spaced mounts available to fit in a flight hard case as I want to protect this abit more than a soft gig bag. Anyone have any ideas or links?
Easier said than done, unless you want to import a Warmoth from the USA. Inspired by this thread, I've just bought a nice looking unfinished alder P body off ebay. Now I need to see what turns up and then decide what to do with it.
Stoke the fire with some fresh wood? haha
Butter Scotch Blonde refers to the classic Fender body finish. I was hoping you were going to get the body stripped and refinished so you could share with us where, when and how (much it cost), to get such work done in the UK. I'm interested myself in who might undertake such work for me, (for a natural poly finish with maybe a vintage tint, 70's style).
I think Aidan at - https://www.facebook.com/denverguitarstudiouk/?fref=ts can do it, however if i was going to do that I would instead just buy a body ready made due to the pricing of such a job - but thats just what I would do
I found THIS listing on Ebay for CTS pots all wired up and ready to go with solderless connections. Good luck with your build. Morning! Knee jerk decision to create a Fender Standard Jazz Bass MN BSB inspired copy but not for the 600 smackaroons. This is a more inspired creation and a project to do on these cold and lonely nights and I really dig the colours, so that's what I am going off over all. Currently a body has been sourced for £37! - This looks highly like a Squire body with the colour and grain finish, however the wood looks a better cut than most and the inlays for pickups etc looking smarter. A Pair of Fender 2008 Mexican Jazz Pickups are on there way also, These had all the necessary cabling and foam support already on so for £25 that's not to bad. For the body I will be measuring the neck set lay, granted I am on the hunt for a Maple neck for around £70. The body will be copper taped inside also once this arrives. The Bridge I have decided to head for is a Gotoh (Japan) 203 Bass Bridge Chrome 203B- for around £25 also. Now the biggest problem is sourcing pots, I know I need CTS pots and from memory 250k would be the ideal and "historical" ones to go for . however finding a made up set -or even sourcing them properly to match is what looks like a wee small headscratching session as for £28 for just them alone doesnt in my eyes make sense and my Father who has worked with electronics for over 40 years would punch me if he found out. ( http://www.axesrus.c...cbassassemb.htm or http://www.wdmusic.c...iring-kit-p1375 ) Nut wise and tuners , The nut will be replaced and tuners.. well depends on the condition / quality of them FYI This is from 8 hours into the project , Open to criticism and advice etc

Yamaha RBXA2 - new Pick up selection - stuck finding ones that fit!
Just noticed the bass here: http://www.bassdirec...cale_white.html Referred to in another thread. Those Delano Pickups look like they might be in the right ballpark size and shape-wise. Don't suppose they are that cheap though!
Cheers buddy
