I like the wood the body was made from, but not the shape of it.

What is this fretless neck through?
Annoying Twit replied to Annoying Twit's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I had a look at pictures of the Alembic 'hippy sandwich'. There's definitely influence in terms of the stripey through-neck. However, the body shape and pickups are very different. If we compare an Aria SB900 (for the double pickups). with the Mania basses (and many other basses) There is more similarity than just the stripey through neck, or even the double humbuckers and wood grain top, as the Alembic had. The body shape is the same, and this IMHO makes it more of a copy (though not exact) than an 'inspired by' as in the Alembic. Are there earlier instruments that were a more direct inspiration than the Alembic. -

The normal (non-deko) nylon classical acoustic electric 'Santos Series' guitars are back in stock. £123 brand new. Hopefully there's now a chance of a deko turning up. Sometime. -
I'm so used to seeing things on eBay and gumtree described as 'hand-made', or 'custom-made' when they're not, it's refreshing to see something that clearly is hand-made. https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/electric-guitar/1136938124

I find it difficult to believe that they won't have shorty Ps in stock in the future. I would guess that there will be dekos too. -

I googled reviews of the Mania basses, and the reviews look very good. E.g. http://basschat.co.u...7-mania-basses/ They remind me of the Korean Tobias Toby Pro basses, e.g: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/36123-for-sale-tobias-toby-pro-5b-custom-sold/ But all of them are highly inspired by Aria Pro 2 SB1000s (and similar models). Were the Arias the original of that style of bass? -

Could the bass in the OP be a Zephyr-alike? Not originally a Peavey? What did the headstock on the Peavey-a-likes look like? -
Thanks! I love it! I did forget to mention that couple of frets needed slight banking with rubber hammer but that I did on my own and sorted the slight buzz issue in 15 minutes. Another thing to be done is shielding because once I remove my hands from the metal parts its hissing. But this can also be found on the much more expensive Fender guitars (so I read) and can be remedied with copper tape.
This *might* be a grounding issue. Others are more knowledgeable about this than moi. -

Really nice bass there Che, score. There seem to be more black acoustic basses up. -

Just curious about the post-Peavey grinds made by the Vietnamese factory. Are there any photos of them? -
Someone near to me has advertised an Ashdown MIBass 220. It seems amazing that an amp that could fit into a gigbag pocket could be good, and loud enough. I'm not sure I'm going to buy it right now, but it has opened my eyes to possibilities. Personally I'm not convinced by valves over transistors, and would prefer something reasonably transparent, where i could use GEQ, compressor, and amp sim to get various sounds.
I got a 'shipped' text
-
I asked them directly once. They gave me an evasive non-answer. Anyone interested in buying this all-mahogany acoustic bass from Gear4Music?

Oops! If I was to buy a grind, I'd have to research further to be aware of mis-labelled zephyrs. -

How many bassists does it take to change a light bulb?
Annoying Twit replied to Owen's topic in General Discussion
Q: How many bassists does it take to change a light bulb? A: Only one, but the guitarist always asks them why they can't just use an oil lamp Q: How many bassists does it take to change a light bulb? A: Five. One to change the bulb, but four to argue indefinitely as to how many filaments the new bulb should have. Q: How many bassists does it take to change a light bulb? A: About fifteen to twenty of them to sit around waiting for 'Decoration only, not suitable for lighting purposes' bulbs to be sold online for 2p each. Q: How many bassists from the Hook family does it take to change a light bulb? A: Two. Jake to actually change the bulb and Peter to write endless blog posts criticising New Order for buying a bulb off the shelf at Tescos. -
Have Westone Thunders suddenly gone through the roof?
They've gone up a bit. Here's one that went for £180, which would have been very surprising a few years ago. (maybe). There are some other ones that sold at a good price. The lower priced ones all seem to have something value-reducing about them. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item4d350d390c EDIT: I previously said that I hadn't seen one go for under £100 for a while. Clearly I hadn't looked well enough. Most of the sub £100 ones were (e.g.) 'For parts or not working', but a few seemed to be just showing their age a bit. -
I've got a feeler. A feeler deep inside, oh yeah.
Is that because someone told you where to stick it?
-
I think of a feeler as being different from a high priced item. Feelers that I remember before the ban on requests for offers would often not have a price attached, and people would be asking for potential buyers to pitch the price, with a sale only being possible if the seller liked the prices.
-
Ah yes, I checked the postage cost to the UK and it's £76 or so. That adds a lot to a £120 bass, and of course bumps up the duty as well.
-
How much would a £120 Fender bass (if we could buy that one) be landed in the UK. I thought it was £40 or so p&p, and then about 25% (very rough) on top for duties etc. That would make it £200 or so. Still seems a bargain. However, there is the question of why that Fender is so much cheaper than the other ones. I'm sure there will be a reason. Could someone who has bought from Ishibashi Gakki please comment giving better estimates?
