I paid £60 for my Westbury Track 2 and haven't yet sold it. Draw your own conclusions!
I wants me a bargain like this. Must check when the big car boot sales open up. -

Worth £355 starting bid? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WESTBURY-TRACK-2-BAS...=item27af97681f I must admit, I'm doubtful. But I'll await the comment of those that know the market better than me. Edit: The owner of this "Tony the Tiger" bass says that s/he's owned it 20 years. But, I presume that it's a very late 80s/1990 Korean AP2. Is it?
Er, yea. Aria made CS (Cardinal Sound) guitars as well as basses. I have a CS guitar. Looks very nice in Japan Brown. The CS doesn't have as nicely balanced a body as my RS (Rev Sound) - the closest thing Aria made to an SB guitar - or, oddly, my TS (Thor Sound) - which the CS is based on. The original RS and TS series guitars featured six-in-line headstocks, so didn't feature the patent graph, for that you've got to track down the first in the PE (Masterpiece Prototype - yea, not quite sure how Aria came up with that one) series, from '76.
Ah, I get it. Same patent number for both the guitars and the basses with the same body shape. Edit: Oh, just the headstock. In which case the number tells us very little. Which is where we came in. -

This is not the most informative ebay listing I've ever seen. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/4-String-Aria-pro-II...=item27af8c65c5 -
What about when the "budget" range are closer to the "proper" range? e.g. Rockbasses can go for over £500 each compared to just shy of £1,000 for a (admittedly cheaper) German Warwick, or even closer, SBMMs and EBMMs. A SBMM can go for over £800 and an EBMM are a bit over £1300?
But you can pick up a second hand Rockbass for about a hundred, or up to £200 or so for an active Rockbass Corvette. But the main differences between the Warwick and the Rockbass seem to be the woods, and the neck. The hardest things to upgrade.
-
Ah but you shouldn't need to upgrade a bass you've paid decent money for. There's plenty of new £200-300 basses that'll slay most Fenders (for example) if you're willing to go beyond trendy brand names and 'tonewoods' that make next to feck all difference anyway.
Can you name some of these £200-300 basses?

The Indie 1064 J Type Deluxe 4 String Pro Bass has a RRP of about £765. That seems quite a bit. Does Indie really have the cachet to sell a 4 string Jazz bass for £765?

It went for £670. It failed to sell before with a reserve of £600. I bet the owner's pleased. -

TSB 350 "Thor Sound". http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Aria-PRO-II-TSB-350-...=item1c103ac9e5 £239 start price. No bids as of right now. SB-900 "Super Bass". I don't really know the going prices for things yet, but isn't £325 a reasonable starting price for this? Warwick Corvette Std for £360, London Gumtree.

I think this photo is somehow more off-putting than if the seller just gave some high res photos of the whole bass including the flaws. No logical reason why, just feel that way. -
Aria pro II super bass + amp and effects pedal
Annoying Twit replied to Tyron's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
The seller had that bass up before, with a reserve. S/he answered my question about the reserve price, and I didn't notice anything odd about the English or response. -
Being pickup only, this might be a bargain in waiting if anyone wants it. I haven't asked what the reserve is. That looks, to my untrained eyes, like a pretty nice bit of wood. Is it common for the set neck to be routed out for the battery compartment? If there were one on my local gumtree for £70, I might go around and have a look at it. Wesley guitars current bass range looks IMHO quite boring. Not even the see through perspex Jazz bass is listed any more.
I've actually got one of those Wesleybacker things as an ongoing project - it's surprisingly well-made fro a Chinese cheapo.
Not that I'm going to buy one - unless I stumbled across one and loved it (*) - but is it a real through neck? The listing describes it as a "set through neck" (?) (*) having a variety of instruments already, in the future I only want to buy something interesting (e.g. Matsumoku), or significantly better than what I have. Doesn't stop me window shopping tho!
There's one of these on my local Glumtree for £70. Which is a tiny bit more realistic, considering it's a Wesley & cost £99 new!
I like the look of that one. (The Ric-ish copy found by Mr. Foxen). But, back to business. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rare-1974-Ibanez-238...=item335a28e551 Is this really an Ibanez rather than an "Ibanez" (with quotes, e.g. "made in the Ibanez factory" (sic)?)

AP2 Cardinal series bass. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ARIA-PRO-II-BASS_W0Q...=item3359d71d1b Up here, "Pickup only" sometimes implies "potential bargain". But, I guess that doesn't apply down in London. -
