Havn't looked at GAK's descrition, but the Fender Jag has active and passive switching. It also has series / parrallel switching from memory (like the S1 switch on the US Jazz). The switching is a bit confusing though, and on the couple I've played, I've not got on with it at all.
My mistake, they have it in their 4 string passive category, but do mention that it has active/passive switching. They also say "Bassists too can now be blinded by the chrome and have more switches and dials than Mission Control at their disposal."
-
Yes, but the Stagg doesn't have about 10 mystery switches on it like the Fender does. The Fender that GAK sells appears to have Jazz bass style single coil pickups and is passive. So what is it that all those switches do?

Not quite sure about the white bit, but otherwise I think this is a nice looking custom http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fretless-JAZZ-Bass-G...6QQcmdZViewItem Edit: Or maybe not, the routing for the neck pickup looks a bit big. Oh well, I do like the cement effect paint.

Much more honest than some squier basses with "upgraded" Fender logos on the headstock that have been on ebay recently. I liked it so much I stole it and posted on HC. Edit: Their business model looks quite simple. Get yourself some of that paper where you can print transfers then print away. then sell them for £7.60 each. What new ones could we come up with? "Muzakman" "Gibbon Les Ape" Any others?

Is there a touch of hyperbole here?

For those songs when you need both an electric banjo and a fretless bass.

Seen this one before.

No shortage of strings here.
Went for £200... I've got three of those sitting in my bedroom (one shortscale, one fretted and good, one which I've removed the frets from which has a bit of a twist in) which were eventually maybe going to go onto projects. At that price I think I'd be better off selling them, I could get half a Shuker for that...
Yes, I saw how much it sold for. Since my entire bass cost me £120, that would be some proportionally expensive neck upgrade. There have been many posts discussing why Warwicks don't sell for what they're worth. Does this mean that it's the other parts of the basses that are dragging the price down?

These basses came up before and have been relisted. Any reasons why they aren't selling? £225 + £20 = £245 doesn't seem expensive for a six string. I'd imagine that's cheaper than anything except the Harley Benton. So if they're not selling, I'd guess that means they aren't very good. Is this the case? I really like this, and on a cheap bass too. But what is the opinion of more experienced bassists?
Handmade at home I guess..as long as it sounds wicked who cares?
I was wondering how much of a risk it was to buy a handmade bass on ebay without playing it. Then I saw others mentioning that the pickups alone are worth a lot. Have you bought other custom specials like this in the past? Can you spot the ones likely to be good? But returning to the topic, I think you should keep on buying new basses at just the right rate so that when you finally find you have too many basses and need a clearout, that I might be in the position to swoop.

I read up on things and some people had some difficulties with minimal truss rods. . Someone advised me that it's not a good idea to start modding a bass etc. when you've only got one bass. As if you £&£% it up, then you've got no bass! So, not for now. But maybe some other time.

Another type. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ROBERTS-ACOUSTIC-ELE...tem280276011921

My thoughts were that it might be a better bass neck, not that I wanted to pass the bass off as something it wasn't. I've read that the bolts may be in a different location, but this neck doesn't seem to have bolt pilot holes yet, so presumably that will be irrelevant. I'm thinking about it, but must admit I'm thinking that equipment is not my highest priority now, playing is.

As soon as I see this 5 string Warwick neck on ebay, I have this slight twinge about buying it and sticking it on my Rockbass. But I think I'm OK with what I have. Wouldn't it also turn my bass into a counterfeit, as the headstock is the only place it says "Rockbass" on mine. Everything else says "Warwick". I don't know enough about basses to answer your question. But, you have a Squier bass already, two Jazz basses, you want to dip your toe into 5 strings, you don't want to spend too much, and you want active. What's wrong with the Squier DeLuxe Jazz Bass V Active? Not suitable for funk? Just curious, because assuming that you prefer Jazz basses, given my limited knowledge it seems like an obvious choice. Or, is it because with £250-300 to spend second hand, you're looking for a step above the £209 brand new Squier? Or are two Jazz basses enough? I seriously considered the Squier DeLux Jazz Bass V Active when I was looking for a bass, and people who know more than me told me nice things about it.
