1. Relisted. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...B:WNARL:GB:1123 If I was interested in this, I might email the seller asking them to speak to me if it doesn't sell again and the seller is prepared to negotiate on price a bit more.
2. I seriously looked at these when I was buying a bass. There is a cheap version on ebay, but I thought they looked a bit nasty. There is an Aria version of this, and there's a BC'er who has one. I'm not sure it would be polite to unilaterally name them, but I'll PM them asking them to comment in this thread.
3. This "chainsaw victim" is still for sale. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/80s-WASHBURN-ZZB-BAS...5QQcmdZViewItem
4. I've heard the MIJ Squiers were quite good. But this does seem rather expensive. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/80s-SQUIER-by-FENDER...1QQcmdZViewItem
5. There are some fascinating instruments that have been offered for sale here. Even though I'm not going to be buying them, it's very interesting to see them. But this must be the most fascinating instrument yet. Is it one of these? If yours is the CRT5, I guess that's this one:
6. The kind of bids I put on will never survive any sort of bidding war. Only the kinds of auctions that slip through unnoticed. Of which there are some. So I don't feel that sniping is going to help me. There was one bass I was looking at on ebay which went through with no bids. I was interested, but had other bids outstanding. So I emailed the seller asking them to get back to me if the bass didn't sell. Which they did. Unfortunately I then read reviews on it which were not complimentary. So I demurred. They relisted, including an amp this time. And the best bid they received was £5 something. Fortunately for them they had a reserve which wasn't met. But that's the kind of auction I might win out on.
7. Nobody bid on this 12 string bass. The listing claims it's made in the same factory that makes the Dean 12 string. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...hlink:middle:uk
8.
Thats one thing that worries me about winning with a low bid, someone refusing to let something go.
I've never heard of that happening to anyone I know. But I have seen feedback suggesting that this has happened to others. Specifically that the seller demanded more money after the auction was complete.
9. That really is a beautiful Jazz Bass.
10.
I have had dealings with that seller (who has about a dozen accounts on ebay - check the business name and address). Everything will be absolutely fine unless something goes wrong, and then you will get stiffed. You won't find the price so reasonable then! My case: bought a cheap neck-through bass. Noticed on first play that some of the frets had been installed in the wrong place, some as much as 3mm from where they should be. They would not take it back, would not send a different one, would not refund my cash. I couldn't help but notice that their English worsened at the same rate the problem did. My tip? Avoid, unless you have money to burn.
I like the look of the six string with the split pickup. If there is a problem with the instrument, can't you raise a paypal dispute?
11.
This isn't my site, as I said anyone can do what they like; this is just my opinion or take on things, people might find that your view is more valid than mine. There aren't any 'rules' governing what BC users can highlight on here, it just seems sensible to have a 'Gentleman's Agreement' about the kinds of situations that we discussed and your suggestion, if you wish to do that, seems reasonable enough ... I just hope you aren't watching a bass with 0 bids that someone flags up on here
I'm not scared of things I've bid on turning up here. At least at present, there doesn't seem much buying ferver here. Not just the Encore, but other things brought to everyone's attention. I have posted links here that I was bidding on. I'm still the high bidder, I see. Though I won't win, as that bid was me in "ultra-lowball" mode. If there was to be an effective agreement, that could be that everyone posts here, but we agree who is to bid. But that most certainly wouldn't be a Gentleman's Agreement! I've seen similar happening outside a real-world auction house though.
12. Some of the same basses available from beatbacker are available here: http://shop.ebay.co.uk/merchant/musik-streicher At that price, suitable as a wall decoration if it's not that hot as a bass?
13.
Look honestly mate we aren't talking about your generic eBay auction for something that Tom, Dick or Harry has seen and wants (the Encore). What I am talking about is items that your general search doesn't bring up (listings with spelling mistakes in the title, wrong categories etc.) that have a fair chance 'if undiscovered by too many other people' of staying low or going virtually un-noticed. I'm not saying that no one else in the world will be aware of those listings but you've got less chance of being up against a hardened BC GASer than your normal eBay bass player.
Well then, can we agree that anything in the Musical Instruments > Guitars > Bass category is fair game for mentioning here? And basses with 0 bids?
14.
Absolutely 100% behind you on that one and that's generally what happens. The frustration is when well meaning folk (who normally don't want to buy the item) flag up 'normal auctions' of stuff that they've spotted... problem is that you never know if someone else is already monitoring it.
It does seem odd to have a forum called "ebay links" but for it to be somehow wrong to post ebay links in it. It is true that extra publicity could theroetically drive prices higher, but I don't see much evidence of that happening here. The Encore bass caused much discussion but seemingly not a single bid. I'd imagine that most basschatters in a buying mood would be watching ebay anyhow. And while it's true that one basschatter may already be bidding. But it could be anyone winning the auction. And therefore bringing it to the attention of people here would, on average, benefit the basschatter community more than be of detriment.
15. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BIG-SCHACK-MONSTER-C...id=p3286.c0.m14 I'm guessing some people here will have seen it.
16. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=280272150053 I consider myself a person who puts ridiculous lowball bids on instruments "just in case I get a bargain some day", but bidder 1 here bid £1.50 for a six string bass. I wonder what they were thinking. Bidder 2 not much better at £13.
17. It's really annoying how much more these basses cost in the UK versus the US.
18. Why would people get upset if someone posts an ebay link? Returning to the amp, this is just vague curiosity, but I note the following.
he Acoustic Image Clarus integrated amplifier was designed to accurately reproduce the sound of all acoustic and electric instruments using a compact and highly portable electronic system.
Does it actually achieve this aim?
19. First, what sort of quality control is applied to these loops? I've attached something here which I did in a few minutes while testing a protools installation. I include two copies, one without bass, and one with "bass". Though that's just a pedal point as I was busy doing other stuff and couldn't be bothered working out exactly which chords fit what I'd played. During this year I will be very frequently stuck in front of a computer with a keyboard and protools, and can come up with numbers of things like this. And if I spend more than five minutes on them, I can make them sound a bit more professional. I've also got to really get into Max/MSP this year. And I can certainly produce very "ambient" style stuff from there. Would any of this be of any use to anyone?
20. You have to tell us what your maximum bid is, or we won't know how to outbid you.
21. I'm only learning, so it's one of the basslines to one of the bits of canned music they playing during "The Real Hustle". Unfortunately the bassline for the BBC HD ident/advert is still beyond my abilities to work out by ear before it's gone.
22. If you'll excuse me posting inconsequential follow-ups to your post, that colour may be suspicious. But I think the red semi-trans body, black pickguard, and light (presumably) maple neck looks bl**dy brilliant. I like it when people take bass shapes that we've seen a million times before, and do something subtle but nice with it. Not that I have huge amounts of bass style critical analysis experience.
23. So why is a Westfield Jazz bass receiving so little love? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=170262445821
24. Fair 'nuff. The bass clearly deserves more respect than I thought. At least as a basis for a "project". I've only seen one second hand Encore bass up close. By that time I was aware that a bass (or guitar) neck might appear to curve downwards along its neck slightly. But it shouldn't make a sudden and considerable turn to the left half way up. Edit: "Bidding has ended for this item".
25. OK, so the price is still cheap. But why is this bass popular enough to get a moderate bidding war? I thought Encore basses were .... not well respected.
