Reverb (Sound Control) relaunched website
Annoying Twit replied to Mrs Tinman's topic in General Discussion
It it's out of stock then you've missed the deal. Reverb will be selling Sound Control stock after the trustee in insolvency has completed the statutory formalities - and it really doesn't surprise me, as Reverb will have acquired old stock at rock-bottom prices.
Reverb Leicester have sold a lot of their previous stock. It appears. Certainly it was on sale soon after the rebranding. -

£269 for an "American Standard" Fender 5 string? http://www.reverb-store.co.uk/product-detail.asp?prod=1394 Surely I'm missing something here. Is this made in Mexico to American standards? -
At a £100 starting bid, this seems a reasonable deal to me. If I hadn't found basschat and bought a bass, I would definitely put a bid o. Alternatively, I might have contacted the seller saying "if it doesn't sell, email me back, and we'll talk". Of course it helps that I live not too far away from Derby. Is this not the deal it appears to be? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=320302102585 Edit: Exactly at the same time I post this, someone has bid. It wasn't me. Edit2: This bass had a BIN price of £150, which has disappeared. I thought I imagined it, but found an old copy of the listing on another tab, and it was there.

Harley Benton six string bass
Annoying Twit replied to Annoying Twit's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
0 bids. for the more expensive than new Harley Benton 6 string bass. Surprise, surprise. Also, the shop near me that told me they were selling a Shine 6 string for £200, has a tag on the actual bass giving the new price as £229. That's for second hand, versus £159 + p&p for "new" on ebay. -
I dream that one day I might find a real bargain in a charity or other shop. Maybe someday. Without a truss rod, fixing fret buzz isn't something I'd even consider doing. Though, this youtube video makes it look easy. Yeah, the guy fixing the guitar just grabs a piece of wood and makes a new bridge saddle out of it. Thanks for the info everyone. If the sixer is "OK for the price" I might keep my eye on that shop for future reference. Is it the fretted or fretless neck you're using? I wouldn't expect miracles given that the basses seem to be selling for about £100 including p&p. Ah, phosphor bronze strings, I hadn't seen any strings looking quite that red on any of the very few acoustic basses I've seen in real life. I'd agree that the seven string guitar looks nice. As do many of the instruments. They do offer a money-back guarantee. But I'd guess a buyer would be out two lots of postage, which adds up. Not that I'm planning to buy anything soon. But when buying cheap-*ss basses, is it safer to do so for fretless basses? As the quality of the frets and fret finishing seem to be one of the major problems with cheap basses. Though, I did come across someone posting somewhere where they'd bought a cheap fretless and were struggling with the setup to get that "mwah" sound on all strings. The six string fretless has finished. But they still have this one:

Anyone ever bought anything from Beatbacker in Germany? They've got some interesting looking instruments. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/beatbacker Do those strings look a bit weird?
Those classicals look extremely good value! From the state of the boxes in the pic looks like they were damaged in the post.
The details say that they are buzzing around the 8th fret. There was no mention of a truss rod in the details. My thought was that a classical guitar for £17 including p&p is cheap, but probably only for people who know what they are doing so that any problems can be fixed.

Not sure why I find six string basses on ebay fascinating, but I do. £225 BIN. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dean-Edge-Select-6-b...bayphotohosting Now I'm off to find out if this is actually a bargain. Hmmm... Full UK price is £479. But US price much, much, less. US$469. But that's a new model. It seems that the select was only made between 1998 and 1999. http://www.guitar-list.com/dean/dean-edge-...6-model-dgb-es6 Short model life, what?!?!? So may not be directly comparable to the current model.

Aria factory seconds on ebay. I'm going to watch some of these to see what they sell for. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/merchant/aria-factory-seconds

Harley Benton six string bass
Annoying Twit replied to Annoying Twit's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
A shop near me is selling the Shine for £200 second hand. Some time ago there was one on gumtree for £100. I did email the seller to see if I could try it out, but they never replied. Since the seller and the shop are very close together I wonder if they are the same bass that has changed selling mode. It is sometimes possible to pick up bargains at half new price. In general. If a HB six string turned up for £62, I might go for it. Need or no need. Ibanez SR506 is £430. Artisan A6 £800? Seems a bit high. Ah, what I need to do is practice more on the paltry five strings I have. -
what a HELLUVA ugly bass! even if I wanted a cheap 6er, that wouldn't be the one, purely cos of it's fuglyness. It's like sarah jessica parker, but with even less grace and sophistication! But the ebayer's defo a bit of a prat for puttin it at that price too...mebby his minds been corrupted by the staggering non-beauty!
The previous Harly-Benton cheap six string was a through neck model. Does this look better to you? -
On ebay starting bid of £175 + £25 p&p http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HARLEY-BENTON-6-STRI...id=p3286.c0.m14 New at Thomann £124.69 + p&p http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hbb...tring_ebass.htm But the reviews seem better than you'd expect for a £124 bass. Peavey products on ebay
Annoying Twit replied to Annoying Twit's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
and yeah i am, why?
Ebay hides the identity of bidders, but you can click on the "bidder 2" etc. and see something of their history, including other things they're bidding on. Were your bids on various bike bits successful? -

Annoying Twit replied to Annoying Twit's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
i bid on that peavey, but i aint paying over £300 for it, much as i want it
Even when it's £1200 or more brand new? That's about the kind of bid I make on ebay Perhaps its why I never buy anything there. PS: Are you a cyclist? -
Anyone ever bought Peavey products that they sell on ebay. I saw a grind bass sell that was a "dealer return" with fret issues. Sold for £101, which is less than half a standard new price, I think. They're now selling a Peavey G-V 5 string G-Bass with a graphite neck. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Peavey-G-V-Bass-with...id=p3911.c0.m14 This is ex-demo. No mention of any flaws. If anyone has bought products from Peavey like this, I'd be curious to know what their experiences were.
cheers gu it plays nice too, paid £320.oo for it (bit tad much) but its mint, there was an a6 on ebay that went for £291!!! think theres a A5 n there at moment. the eq is well impressive and hopefully cause i didnt spend too much i may get to keep my two warwicks and my fender jaz!!!! touch.
The reviews on Harmony Central are really good. http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...A6+Artisan/10/1 I could never imagine myself in a situation where it would be reasonable for me to pay the "boutique prices" for basses. Though, I don't think those prices are high for what those instruments are. For a professional, a few grands worth of kit isn't that much. Compared to say what "white van person" has to pay for his/her van. Or a plumber has to pay for tools. But returning to the topic, given the prices quoted above, and the reviews, perhaps a Cort A6 could be my "dream, but achievable" bass for the future. As sad as that might seem to those who spend thousands on basses.

I've noticed that Spector basses are quite often spoken about in glowing terms. Is this one of the good ones? If so, this auction, finishing in four hours something, could be at bargain levels. Or, are there good Spectors and bad spectors. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Spector-Performer-4-...id=p3286.c0.m14 Not that I'm in a buying mood, but I like to learn more about "the market". Aside: I thought I spotted a real bargan for a minute. Then remembered, it's "Lakland", not "Lakwood" Edit: Not as expensive as I thought, http://www.turnkey.co.uk/product/spector-p...ass-slate-grey/ Basswood body, usually the sign of a not-too-expensive bass. Sure is purty though.

Up to £102 now. Given the US new price for the Johnson, and that this is ripoff Britain, that might be a decent price. For both the buyer and seller. Edit: Sold for £150 plus £30 p&p
-
The bass seems to be being sold as a Johnson these days. The US price looks an utter bargain if this is the same bass that Tauzero thinks is good. Unless the quality has dropped along with the name change that is. But it looks the same bass. http://www.elevation-music.com/jojjcasesixs.html Edit: US$225. Is this the cheapest six string bass ever?
Certainly not at the moment. I think the festive season has come early for lowball bidders, the secondhand market seems to be suffering at the moment. Looks a decent 6 string starter bass and will probably sell for just over £100 maybe...?
If I hadn't bought a bass, I might have put in a cheeky £101.1p bid. But starting on a six string might be a bit extreme. My current thinking is that some time in the future I'll definitely try out a six string to see what it's like. Edit: This guy seems to like his. The flight case is included in the P&P. If you pick it up, you only get a soft case. And, the owner (presumably) wants £232 for it. http://london.craigslist.co.uk/msg/794642560.html Rather precise amount.
I think the fact of the matter is, they'd rather not know if the goods are stolen or not
That's my personal feeling.
-
Yes, but unless one party can prove in court that the seller already knew the goods were stolen when they recieved them, I suspect the case would be a civil one rather than criminal. I'm not a lawyer/policeman though. If I was CC I'd be getting people to sign undertakings that the goods are not stolen and be taking sufficient information from them that they can be quickly located by the police if the goods do turn out to be stolen.
Yes, but small claims court should find in the buyer's favour. (I would think. I'm no lawyer either). As there is clear evidence of the sale (receipt from CC), and clear evidence from the police that the bass was stolen.
