1.
Acoustic 5er is still up there... I'm gutted I missed the fretless 4; I hadn't even considered such a weirdly wonderful thing might exist, and GASed hard when I saw the 'sold out' label... Did anyone on here snag it?
I have one I bought a long time ago.
2. Right. For the first time in ages I'm up and on the computer at night time. (Drunken neighbours doing loud karaoke). Maybe I'll see a live deko for once. Three acoustic basses still available.
3.
Acoustics: black 4 string http://www.thomann.d...ic_bassdeko.htm natural 5 string http://www.thomann.d...bass_s_deko.htm
Will these make it to 24 hours?
4. Happy NBD. It's good to see inexpensive instruments with maple fretboards. It really distinguishes them from all the cookie cutter inexpensive strats with rosewood boards.
5. @landwomble, I'm not sure if that question is meant for me. I'll comment if you want me to, but people who have the JB1975 bass with the neck in a body and strings, pickups, and things attached will be able to give a much better answer. Similarly for the finish. It looks very light to me, but someone who actually has experience of refinishing a neck would be able to give a much better answer than I can. There is a touch of sharpness to the frets. Not at the end of the frets, but along the top edge of the chamfer (correct term) at the ends of the frets. Not hugely worrying, but it can be felt.
6. I wanted to avoid starting a new thread, and this rather old thread had a title that fitted me well Will the tool in the below picture be useful for defretting a bass neck? I don't know where this tool came from, but every time I see it, I think 'defret'. NB: I won't start the defret until I've used this neck for some fret dressing practice. Just had a thought. If I defret this neck, and want to sand it down, what will that do to the inlays?
7. Thanks for the tip KB. And thanks again Andy. I'm now thinking that I'll try and fret dress the neck as practice, then I will defret it. If the defret appears to be successful, then I'll be after a deko jazz bass to put it in I think that the black 1975 bass with the maple neck does look rather nice.
8. Thanks very much. I'm already hacking around with it in a way that I don't even dare do to my £35 deko PJ.
9. Once it's with the courier, I thought you could continue tracking the item even when Thomann is closed. Though, I must admit that I don't remember seeing movement during the weekend. BTW: Returning to the topic of easy to turn truss rods. I'm now in possession of Andytre's 1975 jazz bass deko neck. The truss rod on that is very firm! I'm tempted to put some penetrating oil down there to see if it changes anything. I'm comparing the neck to the neck on my PJ5-HTR. They appear to be made out of exactly the same wood, maple with not the most attractive of grain. The JB neck is even more lightly finished than the PJ. The JB has binding while the PJ doesn't. The nut on the JB neck is loose, and I removed it. As many people have advised for attaching nuts, it was only held by what looks like a single blob of glue in the middle. I must admit that the JB nut feels really cheap, and the PJ nut seems to be of a better quality. However, that's just me guessing It could be that the harder feeling plastic of the JB nut is actually a better material for the job. Off to the repairs and technical forum to ask more questions. PS: Thanks Andytre!
10. Really odd one here. A black jazz bass from the 1975 'vintage' jazz bass range. But, it's at near full price if not full price. What gives? http://www.thomann.d...tage_series.htm The listing doesn't say deko (unless I missed it), only the first picture. ??????? @Myke G'wan g'wan.
11. Thanks for the video and happy new bass day!
12. DEKOs Including acoustic basses. http://www.thomann.d...ic_bassdeko.htm Fretless acoustic http://www.thomann.d...tic_ba_deko.htm Five string acoustic http://www.thomann.d...bass_s_deko.htm Apart from this acoustic guitar http://www.thomann.d...850_bk_deko.htm it seems to be 'all about the (acoustic) bass' this morning. No treble. EDIT: Kodaik Blair got there hours before me. It seems that I'm hopelessly out of touch with dekos now. I was fast asleep at 1:28am!
13. I think it's good for the price, but it isn't going to be as good as (e.g.) the Ibanez BTB7 or the Conklins which presumably are the inspiration for it.
14. There have been no posts from mr1989 since shortly after the bass arrived. I hope that it's not the case that there was a deadly poisonous spider living in the control cavity that bit him once he started playing it and annoyed the spider with low frequency vibrations.
15.
I thought that was for illegal rosewood? Think I'll wait for the Harley Benton version...
Is the Gibson 'decoration only, not suitable for music'?
16.
No such luck AT. But if there was never fear I'd have got you one, would even have stretched to £11
I already have one! (non-deko)
17. I'm back home again, and was expecting to have seen a flurry of activity where everyone was buying deko BZ-7000s for £10 or so. Not tonight it seems.
18. mrn1989 - can you tell us something about what it's like?
19.
its a slippery slope i bought a jazz bass and 2 acoustic guitars in around a week!
How much did you spend down the pub in the same time span?
20. Congratulations on your shipping confirmations. These are the places that I was at between somewhere after 4pm and when I got home at 10:20pm. http://www.swanandrushes.co.uk http://www.kayalrestaurant.com I'm going to be pretty damn busy at work today, and out this evening as well. Please can everyone keep their eyes on the prize^H^H^H^H dekos.
21.
What went up AT ? I don't see anything other than the baby Warwick,Banjo and Reso.
The PJ5 and PJ4 from earlier were still on the main list, but clicking through revealed that they were 'sold out'. When I opened up my computer, my program thought they were new ones (it doesn't click through) and notified me. Given the speed that Dekos disappear, I posted first and asked questions later. TLDR; they were the same ones from 5pm.
22. DEKOS! EDIT: Of course I was far too late. I just got back home, and posted as soon as I saw there were some more on the list, but they are all sold out. Having revised the thread, I'm pleased to see that some people nabbed some.
23. http://www.thomann.de/gb/decorative_guitars_and_basses.html That's just decorative guitars and basses. Please tell me if you're interested in decorative brass instruments etc.
24. I'm hoping that at some time I'm going to be able to visit a luthier class to learn how to level frets. I bought my most recent Deko for this purpose, but haven't really gotten the hang of it.
