1. That does look very nice. Props to you for not getting a butterfly logo put on it. I'm looking forward to hearing how it plays and sounds.
2.
The Bass Relay idea is brilliant - imagine picking this up and trying to get through a song in front of an audience...
Would the audience be laughing so hard that they may not actually notice what's being played?
3. It sounds as if you are enjoying it. HNBD!
4.
Not been rejected? So you soon could be the proud new owner of this, er, this... this fine piece of the art of the luthier?
Not been auto-rejected. Previously he'd set a limit so that all small offers were automatically rejected by the system without him seeing the offer. Now it seems that this is not happening, and he'll see all the offers. If he does accept my bid, then my use for the 'bass' would be as a booby raffle prize for the next Midlands Bass Bash. Last I heard, he was expecting in the very high hundreds or over a thousand for this ... thing.
5. Not having seen this thread before, I looked up the track 'The Vile Stuff' on youtube. Hmmm.... I definitely think it's going to be an acquired taste. However, as the 11 minute something track continued, I can see some musicality in there, but it's well hidden in the ... arrangement, performance, and production. If I had stopped the track early on, then I wouldn't have seen any value in it at all. And I would prefer a much more sophisticated remake Returning to the main topic of this thread, I do think that the BBC should be giving an opportunity for people to hear things that are significantly left field. And it's likely that most people will hate it. To do otherwise is to discourage musicians even further from taking risks and doing something that is different.
6. Price now reduced to 'only' £50,000. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item43de0171c9 EDIT: Odd, my offer of £51.75 has not been automatically rejected.
7. Thanks for all the advice.
8. Good points, thank you. But, it woke me up to what is available for how much. There was a TE practice amp on sale here for £20. I would have nabbed that had I not been too late and had I been going to Derby. I must keep one eye open.
9. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291467547236?ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1435.l2649 Finished at £75. Just curious as to whether this is a bargain. I put a lighthearted bid of just over £50 on it, without too much motivation to win as I'd have to go all the way to Rugby to pick it up. It sold for £75 which isn't a world away from my bid. How good are these? With the power and the speaker size, it should be a useful amp for playing with a drummer, possibly small venues, etc. And £75 isn't a huge amount of money. If this sort of amp is as good as I'd expect, and if they can be bought for £75 or so, then I wouldn't need to buy a Harley Benton or Behringer amp, I could go for a better brand second hand.
10. Deko! http://www.thomann.d...essive_deko.htm LH 5 string progressive bass is back. EDIT: Gone, at some time during the day.
11. I was out then, and didn't see those dekos go up and sell out. £122 for a BZ6000 deko is a tiny bit under one half of full price. Usually the dekos are a bit more than one third of full price.
12. Left-handed 'progressive' bass. http://www.thomann.d...essive_deko.htm @landwomble - nice!
13. Postage is a bit pricey, but a very low starting bid and no reserve that I noticed. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-rare-semi-acoustic-fretless-bass-guitar-Jolana-Kolorbas-/201365140564?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2ee24c3454 Shall we call this the Chowniski?
14.
Ha, I guess I needn't have panicked, there's still some LH Jazzes available apparently...
I'll wish you the best of luck, but past experience suggests that you have to wait for the dispatched email to be absolutely sure. That it still says 'Available immediately' is promising though. As, if I remember correctly, is that it is left handed. I think LH basses (and guitars) hang around longer.
15. Lights, camera, dekos! Good luck Bartleby.
16. DEKOS! Left handed Jazz '75 http://www.thomann.d...ge_ser_deko.htm 'Available immediately'. There should be a few of them, then. 5 string 'progressive'. http://www.thomann.d...ressiv_deko.htm EDIT: Sold out Left handed progressive http://www.thomann.d...essive_deko.htm 'Available immediately'. Should be a few. White progressive sold out already http://www.thomann.d...ressiv_deko.htm Resonator guitar: http://www.thomann.d...0ce_bk_deko.htm
17. Were Shaftesbury made in the Matsumoku factory? I thought that some of them were rebranded Ibanez, possibly made in Fujigen? (Apart from the Rick copies which were probably made in the same unknown factory as my Cimar, I think).
18.
I wonder how many of those they've sold? It might be fun to string it in unison with a single string on the bottom and play it like an oud, otherwise I can't think what else you might do with one!
They're selling to the US market. That's 300 million people. Surely among that number of people, there's a useful chunk of people who would buy this 'because it's there', and it's cheap. That's partially what led me to buy my 6/12 string double neck silent guitar, that I haven't really played since I bought it. But when I walked through town carrying it, people were stopping me in the street to ask about it. I'm sure a fretless 12 string Les Paul would be a similar conversation piece.
That's pretty handsome though!?
Which one? If the agile, I think it would look better with black pickups
19. The recording of John Lennon trying to play a fretless guitar while speaking to Kenny Everett springs to mind. If I remember correctly, Rondo Music in the USA was selling a fretless 12 string guitar. Surely everyone needs a fretless 12 string guitar in their collection. EDIT: They still do. http://www.rondomusic.com/al310012bkfl.html
20.
Mine took three days. I thought it was confirmation but alas, no. Good luck.
That's pretty bad service. With modern databases you'd think they'd be able to track stock properly and always show up to date availability on their site.
21. Shaftesbury Les Paul bass with case. I think £284 might be a bit much, but there is a 'make offer' button. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Beautiful-Shaftesbury-Bass-Guitar-and-Case-/121669459271?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1c54109d47
22. That's a lot of strings. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Custom-12-String-Bass-Guitar-/331574126660?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4d335ba844
