Reports are that Bowie had started a new album, and had five tracks in varied stages of completion. These tracks may be released in the future, possibly as an enhanced version of Blackstar.

Thomann selling Harley Benton basses as 'Decoration only'
https://m.thomann.de...arch=1452768654 7 string made a quick appearance, but sold out now
I just saw this now. I have one already, and I think that over half new price is a lot for a deko. But then £123 for a 7 string - most likely usable. It shows that interesting things are happening still in the world of dekos even if I've taken my eye off the ball a bit. EDIT: That isn't half new price. The new price has gone up a lot since I bought mine. There was a 5 string neck through bass thing, and a Les Paul copy. Both also gone now. -
Precisions - How do you justify having two (or more!)?
Annoying Twit replied to jbasst's topic in Bass Guitars
I don't have any precisions. But, one fretted and one fretless as mentioned. Then there's the five string. Then there's a backup or more than a backup. Then, as mentioned, one with flats. Then there's the six-string: After that, it's an obsession. -

Active Les Paul deko on main site. EDIT: WHOOPS! NOT ACTIVE - PASSIVE. EDIT: http://www.thomann.d...e_blac_deko.htm I was just going to buy it for the sport of it. But, I found that my Thomann shopping cart was full of stuff ready for a quick purchase, so I thought I needed to stop and think about it. An active Les Paul may duplicated my Westone Thunder 2A guitar a bit much too. I'd really be impressed if anyone scored a deko Les Paul. Anyone going for it? EDIT: Gone. -

Dekos turning up at about 10am on weekdays doesn't work for me. I saw the 50s' P after it had already gone. I hope someone got one: bargain! Loving the scratchplate on Zed's progressive bass! I still want one of these: http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_santos_series_c_40sce_nt.htm Maybe there will be some dekos when they come back in stock. -
Too many to choose, but "Ashes to Ashes" and "Heroes" are two of my favourites.

Different people react to things in different ways. Personally it made me feel a bit better to listen to this skit that came up on twitter when I searched for Tony Visconti. Comments and likes suggest that others found it comforting, but I'll just give it as a link rather than inline it since some people may not find it so.
Well it's a hell of a lot more poignant now. I'm glad he saw it released.
And hopefully he knew that it went to No. 1. in many countries in the world. In the daily charts at least. Duncan Jones tweeted the chart positions for the 8th and 9th of January, so I hope his father knew. Poignant tweets from Iggy Pop and Brian Eno today. I'm listening to "The Next Day" as I type this: having listened to "Blackstar" several times today already.

Was anyone watching this morning? There was a TE-80 "Prince" style telecaster guitar and a left handed P-Bass. Both sold now. -
A massive shock. I saw it in the local newspaper and my first response was to think that it can't be true. RIP David Bowie. You will be very much missed.

"Some frets are not set properly on the fretboard" With a starting bid of £5 (no bids so far at the time of posting) this may be a bargain for someone who knows what to do with frets. Many other people (e.g. me) will be put off by the fret problem. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Harley-Benton-8-String-Guitar-R-458BK-Rock-Series-/121859393209?hash=item1c5f62c6b9:g:baQAAOSwwPhWjt29
There is certainly a more jazz element. Or all the musicians weren't allowed in the same room at the same time! Mainly it is slip away(?) I think, it seems very similar to the style.
Slip Away is probably the most Blackstar sounding song on Heathen, but I think the albums are quite different. IMHO, the most similar album to Blackstar in Bowie's back catalogue is 1. Outside. The Next Day is IMHO more similar to Heathen than Blackstar.

It sounds very different to Heathen to me. Both musically and lyrically Blackstar sounds more complex and less immediate than Heathen. Heathen to me was full of fairly straightforward, immediate, songs.

Rio Isolated Bass Track - is it John Taylor?
Annoying Twit replied to spectoremg's topic in General Discussion
The John Taylor/Bernard Edwards thing often comes up due to the recording of the Power Station album and the documentary of the making of the album showing John being coached (produced) by Bernard Edwards - "Ha, JT can't play, it was Bernard wot dun it.. etc." which is nonsense.
The mind boggles to wonder which bass guitarists wouldn't benefit from some coaching by Bernie Edwards. -
I've listened to it once and must admit that I wasn't overwhelmed. I'll give it some more listens. It took me a while to appreciate The Next Day so perhaps this might be similar. Station to Station is my favourite DB album too.

Vintage MIJ (formerly J@pCr@p) Spotting
Annoying Twit replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Yamaha BB1200. People rave about these, and the starting price seems reasonable. No idea what it will fetch. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1980-YAMAHA-BB1200-BASS-GUITAR-TOTALLY-ORIGINAL-/151935429367?hash=item23600eaaf7:g:DuEAAOSwJkJWhokM -
More than the new price
Annoying Twit replied to Annoying Twit's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
In all honesty, I have seen Harley Bentons go for more than new price. Particularly when the logo is removed or not present in the listing. I just thought it was funny that the seller reacted quite rudely -
Starting bid £200, new price £168. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Deluxe-12-String-Guitar-Sunburst-Harley-Benton-RB-612CS-Classic-Series-electric-/121858140366?hash=item1c5f4fa8ce:g:-W4AAOSwYIhWjRzk I sent a message asking if there was anything included in the auction to justify the start bid being more than the new price. I received a semi-coherent rude email back. The seller told me not to ask 'stupid questions'.

Rosewood Jazz. I haven't seen one of these as a deko before. Much more expensive than a '75. http://www.thomann.d..._deluxedeko.htm One of the higher end Harley Benton acoustic guitars: http://www.thomann.d...?ref=prod_cothr EDIT: Rosewood Jazz is insto-sold-out. -
How far do you get if you try a gentle introduction such as: http://www.8notes.com/theory/

Thomann selling Harley Benton basses as 'Decoration only'
Annoying Twit replied to Annoying Twit's topic in Bass Guitars
I was off doing stuff - it was gone before I got back. Actually buying a Les Paul copy is I think still the gold standard in terms of difficulty of buying a deko. The new price for that is £130. The new Les Pauls seem to be similar to the Vintage (brand) LP copies. If this is similar to the Vintage Lemon Drop, then £130 is a bargain IMHO. Even if it doesn't have any relic-ing. -
