1. I just discovered this youtube video after youtube auto-played on from something else. I enjoyed this, and this thread seems as good a place as any to put it.
2.
alittlebitrobot It's just a reflection of manufacturing costs in China. Thomann buy direct from Saein and use a small mark up/high sales business model, so no middle man, others buy direct but use a higher mark up/high sales model then the distributor adds their mark up then the vendor. It all adds up but Thomann are both distributor and vendor so those costs are saved. Win win situation.
How do they get their wood so cheap? I heard a Gibson employee claim that the cost to Fender of basic Squier strats was £20. (He didn't say how much Epiphones were, but implied they were higher quality). Certainly when we have instruments sold for £80 or so, the factory will be getting a fraction of that. Cheap labour is one thing, but isn't there a global market for materials?
3.
Are they really bad basses? Ive noticed no chat on here about them, even at only £28 something quid!!
If you read through the thread, you'll see that some of them have issues that require fettling. My two dekos, (see: I can resist temptation even though there are some dekos I plan to buy in the future) were both fine, except very poorly set up. And my acoustic has minor finish flaws The worst one I remember from this thread was the uke bass with the non-functional truss rod. There have been other problems, but I'm at work and can't hunt down stuff much (and check that I spell Blablas correctly etc.) Did we ever hear what happened to the bass with the very quiet output on the pickups? Or was that the bass where the pickups and electronics were swapped out so that we didn't find out how easy the issue was to fix. Under the consumer contracts regulations, if someone does receive a deko with a smashed neck, they can be returned within the limits of that legislation.
4. That's four we got on the 25th (delivery permitting). Great haul there. I can only provide the temptation, I'm not the one that gives into it Will these be 'Deko' legal bills, where you only pay £5 an hour?
5. @Me and my bass - I hope the Jazzer (and the Uke) turn out well for you.] When did you buy the 1975 bass? I haven't seen any today, but I've been out quite a bit of the day and my computer was off and not tracking Thomann.
6. DEKOS! http://www.thomann.d..._sb_lh_deko.htm Left handed Jazz bass. http://www.thomann.d...c_40scedeko.htm Classical electro. http://www.thomann.d...andard_deko.htm Shorty strat. EDIT: Gone.
7. Happy New Baritone Guitar Day. The listing on Thomann says 'trremolo bar not included. Does yours have one?
8. Looks like we've (as a group) nabbed three basses from the last batch of dekos. Not bad.
9. Here's hoping you're very happy with the basses when they arrive.
10. Aaaannnnnndddddd someone buys the last LH start, and we're back in long term deko mode again. Fortunately there's the 5 string acoustic and baritone guitar there, so we're in better long term shape than we were some days ago.
11. 1975 bass gone now. It was up for a while. JB20 still up, as is the R458! I must admit that I'm not a fan of djent. I found some clean examples of eight string use, and while the guitar sounds were good, I didn't like the clean 'bass' string sound. Good luck to everyone concerning orders. If we miss out this time, I'm sure they'll all be back at some time. I'm not sure what a 'b stock deko' is. Curious.
12.
Look, I know it's not strictly your fault, but I've bloody gone and bought another one! If my Mrs finds it, I'm dead.
What did you buy?
13.
I was also tempted by the 8 string, i like me some djent/prog metal from time to time. But i already have my hands full with 6 strings on a guitar. I also checked out some soundclips and some sounded pretty crappy while others sounded quite decent, i think a pup change would make a world of difference tho.
I listened to Ibanez and Schecter clips too, which should give me an idea what EMG pickups would sound like. Didn't like them that much.
14. Over half an hour now, and still loads up. Hopefully this is because they're still available, not because their system isn't keeping up. I was tempted by the eight string, but googled a whole lot of videos on eight string guitar, and it seems that they don't sound good. Even clean, the 'bass' strings don't sound good to me. EDIT: PB gone.
15. Good luck Vixivi. Time will tell what sort of email you get. I'm still tempted by the eight string guitar. It's not in all fourths tuning, so may require new strings if the gauges are too far out. Perhaps you could negotiate for Grangur for the PJ, if it's a five on offer.
16. Loads of Dekos! http://www.thomann.d...and_basses.html Eight string Deko. http://www.thomann.d...siv_se_deko.htm Standard Jazz Bass Deko. http://www.thomann.d...d_seri_deko.htm 1975 Jazz Bass. http://www.thomann.d..._serie_deko.htm Standard P-Bass Deko. http://www.thomann.d...d_seri_deko.htm £18 something. B-450 White Progressive bass gone before I could link to it from here, as well as ES335 copy and TE-20 standard tele etc. Other things still there right now. Tempted to go for the eight string, but not tonight. Three of them left right now. EDIT: All basses except for the B-450 still there. Eight string guitar still there. Since it's still there: Left handed standard start. http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_st_20lh_bk_standard_se_deko.htm
17. I'm confused. The post says March's composition challenge, and the image isn't the "Funk" image that I thought it was.
18. I think that there was some discussion that the Ric inspired bass had disappeared. It appears to be back again. Harley Benton RB414cs
19. I wonder if these will have a massively thick neck like the Westfield MM copy I tried.
20. I bought my BZ-7000 when it was listed as not yet available, but there was a date for when they expected a shipment. These basses appear to be earlier in the process, and might be in a boat somewhere.
21.
Yeah - I really nearly bought one the day before yesterday. If it had been a four string I probably would have.
One day on. Will your bass strings count comfort zone also increase by one?
22. As I'm not doing anything professional, I'm happy to have fun programming my own drums. However, if I came up with something I was proud of, I'd be tempted to pay a professional vocalist to sing it. It seems that there are people offering this service. http://iamsilke.com http://www.ginaellenvocalist.co.uk/online-session-singer/4578530093 http://singer-for-hire.com
23. Something about Thomann's page is confusing my program, and I've had to stop it. I'll look into updating it tonight, but even more than being busy at work and home has limited how much I've had my eye on things, I can't watch for dekos at all right now until I work out what has changed. EDIT: I've worked out what was causing my program to go wild. Unfortunately it most likely isn't Thomann trying to stop people using bots to look into deco instruments.
I wonder how many they've got? The last batch of these must have been quite big as they stayed around for a while.
Using the KB method, it says that they have five of them. However, I've never seen more than 5 dekos, so wonder why this is. EDIT: 5 String acoustic bass still up.
24.
Strange. Last night I had this dream that there were all these bass players in my cellar.....
Were your facilities in an appalling state this morning?
25. Acoustic bass deko. 5 string. http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_b_35nt_acoustic_bass_s_deko.htm
