What the Hell is a Bass Bash Anyway?
Annoying Twit replied to mrdreadful's topic in General Discussion
Last night I dreamed that I was at a bass bash. A lot of people had AKG K240 headphones with broken cables so I was dispatched to a local river to dig some that had been dropped in out of the mud to steal the cables. When I returned there were two guys playing occasional random notes while everyone sat around and listened intently. When I asked if it was OK to pick up an instrument and an amp to join in, they um-ed and ah-ed a bit, before saying no when I asked for a yes or no answer. Then, the dream skipped to later when everyone was playing this riff over and over: Oh, and it was at a female forum member's house, in her very large cellar, and she was paranoid about letting us use her toilets. -
A nice example of visual aliasing.

I don't claim extensive knowledge of bass sound refinement. But, I've certainly found that a seven band graphic EQ is very powerful in modifying bass sound. A ten band EQ as recommended up above would, I would presume, do even more.

Tiny practice/acoustic session cab DIY ideas
A better view if the "ghetto crazy8" https://instagram.com/p/1iFfBxhjYQ/ I could possibly have got another litre from the box by moving the baffle flush with the box edge, but yes if you need 20litres this box won't suffice sadly (Luckily 15.5 was exactly what I needed). This is 6mm ply and with good bracing it is stiff and light. If the speaker could take more power then a thicker walled cab may be needed. Would you wire your 2 speakers up to give a 4ohm cab? I really reckon you should get something together - I'd love to hear the results. @ahphook cheers man! @annoyingtwit once one gets out of amplified music world it is scary how little power you need to be heard. I think this is because acoustic instruments have clearer frequency ranges - an acoustic guitar can't turn up the bass knob and infringe in the double bass for example. Drummers who have only played with electric guitarists have learned to play as loud as possible to punctuate the amplified volume, where as a drummer used to playing with clarinets and pianos etc will have a very soft touch and be able to coax a full sound from the drums, but at an appropriate volume. Had you seen the uke band in a solid room rather than a tent the bass would probably have sounded even louder.
Sorry, I only just got around to answering this. I don't play out yet, and don't have an amp! I practice through smaller speakers, and compose (nothing sophisticated) on computers with headphones usually. I have access to kit at work. I'm interested in amps as I'll probably be getting one at some point, but never really find the need. Yet. -
They're massive. Who was it that posted on another thread that they are 6'4" and that small basses look funny on them? They need one of these.
-
Size , or relative size , I'm a 6'4 Viking / hunish type and there's a reason i play a tbird , smaller things like Ibanez or modern things look like im wielding a child's toy .
I would like to see a picture of you with a 3/4 sized/other short scale bass if any such photos exist
-
I echo the previous comment about the action being too high. Others may be able to predict what a bass would play like with a lower action, but I can't.
-
The answer is to snipe. No time for anyone to explore and reveal your max bid.
-
Gosh, that's generous. I don't have a 3/4 double bass, so I won't ask for this.
-
The assumedly real photo does look quite nice, IMHO.

Strat deko. http://www.thomann.d...dard_s_deko.htm Gone already. @Blablas - you reminded me to go to the machineshop here at work and borrow a flat handle-less metal file. My most recent deko purchase was bought so that I could practice working on the frets. I'm going to try a level using the draw lines on the frets and slide a file down the neck method. -

I wouldn't be able to fix a hump in a fretboard. How will you do this on a fretted bass? Take the frets out and then replace them later on? -
Too bad the telecaster disappeared so fast, i've been gassing for one of those.
A HB Tele in general, or specifically the double humbucker TE-40? -

Dekos!!! Some disappeared within seconds. There is still an acoustic. Given that there seemed to be a few go up, this is disappointing. No basses tonight it seems -
Tiny practice/acoustic session cab DIY ideas

Thanks @Jecklin. Just out of curiosity, for an acoustic gig with no drummer or a quiet playing drummer in a small performance space, would something like an Ampeg BA110 be useful? -

I'll be really impressed if any Les Paul copy lasts five minutes. They always seem to disappear within a minute or so. -

I can see how much more people on this thread know about amps and cabs than me. But, can I express surprise as to what people consider the minimum amplification for an acoustic gig. I attended an event where a ukulele orchestra was playing in a moderate sized tent. There was one person playing a Kala u-bass, through a very small amplifier. I would guess something with a 10" speaker at most, but I think maybe an 8" speaker. Their volume held up very well against what might have been 20 or so people playing ukuleles and I didn't notice that it sounded inappropriately weedy. Usually I go to electric gigs with a notable bass stack, but for that acoustic gig I did note the small size of the amplifier but still sufficient bass sound. By 'acoustic gig', I'm presuming that all the other instruments are un-amplified. I'm aware that you need a goodly number of watts to compete with a loudly played un-amplified drum kit. But for a quiet acoustic gig, wouldn't the drummer be playing quietly? -
One that has been there for a long time has disappeared - the lefty acoustic bass - should be in my hands tomorrow.
Yes, I noted that the last bass had gone. (I don't include the decorative thumb bass). I've been off the internet for a while, so was pleased to see that Vixivi was keeping an eye out. -
Ah, yes I remember him. I see he's still using the "German Engineered" misnomer. When I contacted him he would not admit they were B Stocks he was buying in and was emailing me into the early hours with abuse....!
He's selling this 'tribute' to a 1950s Fender bass. It has a Wilkinson pickup. Could this be a HB with a reshaped headstock and fake decal? If so, £175 seems quite a profit margin. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Beautiful-1950s-Reproduction-Precision-Bass-In-Sunburst-Right-Handed-/131484065974?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1e9d0fa0b6 -

Baritone Guitar; have you played one? Wassitlike?
Annoying Twit replied to Grangur's topic in Other Instruments
I'm learning over time to play everything in all fourths tuning. There is some adaption necessary, but it is working out for me. I hope you enjoy the baritone guitar, or at least have a smooth return if you don't.
