1.
Nice one. I'm so glad somebody's getting something out of this. I used to check the deko thing fairly frequently and it never really changed. Then somebody started this topic and it all blew up. I can't help feeling that whatever bot is buying the stuff automatically is a result one way or another of this thread. IF that's what is actually happening. Maybe the items are disappearing immediately because Thomann are taking them down. It might just be some admin glitch. Who knows. Judging by the NBD descriptions here, it still seems odd that they're almost being given away. I mean, if a finish blemish makes it unplayable, what counts as B-stock? A bass that nearly fell over but actually didn't? Or one whose E string was temporarily tuned a bit sharp, putting too much stress on the neck..
It does seem odd that they are being sold so cheaply. Personally I suspect that someone is buying them to sell in a shop. However, that's only a vague suspicion, nothing else. BTW: It was myself who started this thread over a year ago. It took quite some time before people actually started buying them, and we as a forum have had a good run at them. I don't think the characterisation of the situation as: this thread starting and then it 'blew up' is accurate. It was the guitars that started going very quickly, and to a large extent it still is. Basses appear to stick around longer. The most recent bass to turn up when my program was running was a Jazz bass, and I believe that was bought by someone on here, seven minutes after it appeared. So, I would guess that it is guitar people who are buying with bots, if that is what is happening. EDIT: Owen 'bought' the bass, but it had sold out by the time he completed the purchase. @Kodiakblair - even the non-deko acoustic basses had the incorrect labels.
2. Happy New Bass day. Please to hear it's working for you.
3. Happy New Bass Day, and Happy Less Stuff Day combined!
4. I knew this would be Gear4Music even before I opened the thread. We had quite a few discussions about their smashed up guitars about a year or two ago. For £37 or so, you can buy a Thomann Deko which is actually in one piece. Here's a picture of a neck through bass from way back then.
5. Black classical electro deko. EDIT: Gone! Before I could edit the web address in. It appears that disappearing in 50 seconds is very common. This supports my guess that someone is buying automatically with a program (or browser plugin).
6. No replies here. The reviews on Thomann's own site are good, and the star rating is very high. Higher than many others on there, I believe. Recent criticism of HB instruments seems to have concentrated on fretwork - not a problem here. Personally I don't think I'd buy the above instrument unless I found a cheap one (e.g. a deko). Reason being that I once test-played a Squier VM fretless jazz, and thought it was really really nice. So, I'd probably go for one of those instead. But even second hand the Squier would be much more than a new HB JB-40FL.

8. Do you mean the JB-40FL?
9. Very useful. Only 3 white classical electro-acoustics left. 5 left handed acoustic basses left. 5 tricone resonator weird metal guitar left. 5 banjos left. These numbers do seem suspiciously similar given that these are supposedly instruments that failed quality control. EDIT: Classical guitar gone.
10. Back from swimming. Open up my computer. Dekos! White classical electro-acoustic. http://www.thomann.d...0ce_wh_deko.htm IMHO the black ones look better. But hey, it's £13 something. Shorty strat. £11.85!!! http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_st_shortybk_standard_deko.htm EDIT: Shorty strat gone. Somebody is made of money.
11. I came back from doing some work stuff, and found that the classical guitar had come and gone. Good to see that it's (barring formalities) going to a good home.
12.
And then I got an email saying that they have run out of stock
Ah. I did some experiments before, and found that putting a deko into the shopping basket doesn't reserve it. Presumably it's not until actual check-out that it gets reserved. Or, perhaps even later than that, depending on how well their database works. I've thought of some other experiments to undertake which might help refine demo-grabbing strategies for the future. Hopefully you'll get one next time.
13. Brilliant! I hope you enjoy it. I was tempted, but I don't think I need another fretted four string bass right now. If I saw one of the fretless jazzes go up, I might bite. Maybe. EDIT: Classical guitar gone. But, Owen got something out of this batch, which is a result.
14.
JB gone now
Yep, my program just told me through the speech synthesiser. Anyone here get one/it? EDIT: It was up for seven minutes. That isn't too bad. The bolt-on SG copy disappeared in nearly exactly one minute.
15. Standard Jazz Bass Deko Harley Benton JB-20 SB Standard Seri Deko Also, classical guitar and some sort of SG copy. EDIT: SG gone. JB still there. £27 and change. Classical guitar is now £13.82. The Euro must still be heading south. http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_cg200ce_bk_deko.htm
16. I wish I could level frets. It would make my life easier. And cheaper.
17.
Just ordered one of the cheap TE-20s (they only do this model in Leftie alas). Will update on what I think of it, once it arrives.
That sounds really unfair. You'd think that a company the size of Thomann would be able to release left handed versions of their mass produced guitars. BTW: The TE-70 Rosewood looks fabulous. But, the review it received on the Harley Benton forum was quite mixed. In particular the poor fretwork would worry me. It could be that all their cheap guitars vary concerning QC, but that review did worry me a bit. @BotB - wouldn't it be possible to retrofit the TE-80 with tele pickups? I've heard very good things about the playability of the TE-80. If I'm buying a cheap instrument, then for me playability is most important. Pickups can be changed relatively painlessly, depending on routing, no?
18. I've joined.
19. Both this bass itself and the images used in this listing show a considerable amount of visual creativity. http://www.ebay.co.u...%3D301563460946
20. That's really got some character. Surftastic.
21. I'm listening to your band right now and enjoying it. Congrats on the exposure and props to the TV station for supporting local talent.
22. A number of people have the previous HB 6 string model. I have one badged as a Shine, not a HB. I've not noticed anyone who has the new 'progressive' model that you have purchased. It will be interesting to hear what you think of yours.
23. Resonator thingie. http://www.thomann.d...ricone_deko.htm Very expensive for a deko. I'm guessing that like the banjo, that won't be selling out soon.
24. I've not done it for bass playing reasons, but planking has definitely strengthened my core. I generally feel stronger all around, and I'm sure it's benefitted my back. It only occasionally twinged a bit before. But since planking, it feels solid as a rock now. EDIT: I'm not sure how I found this thread in EUB and Double Bass. I thought that I was answering an Off Topic post.
