Vintage MIJ (formerly J@pCr@p) Spotting
Annoying Twit replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Aria RSB Performer. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aria-ProII-RSB-Performer-Active-Bass-Project-/141843873908?hash=item21068dc074:g:4QUAAOSw7FRWYHHZ £79, in 'project' condition. Is this really Japanese? The headstock looks early Korean. Other links I found online seem to suggest that it's Japanese. -
Relisted. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TENNESSEE-15-STRING-EXTENDED-RANGE-BASS-/291630566887?&_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6456&autorefresh=true Only £10,000,000 this time. Bargain!
I agree with you twit, for basses like precisions and jazzes out there, theres many a decent budget line that definitely work. However, for more unusual basses, customisation etc, chibsons can be the way to go. A lot of the time its easier to talk via pictures of what you want, as i sent a guy a picture of the colour that i wanted the bass to be. But as there are different sellers, who use different factories, quality can vary. But id say they probably are along the line of harley benton.
The more I look at your bass, the more I like it. It looks a bit like an Atlansia, except slightly more normal.

Thomann selling Harley Benton basses as 'Decoration only'
Annoying Twit replied to Annoying Twit's topic in Bass Guitars
I ordered the HBO850 today and received this email now; Bugger !!! I really need a acoustic guitar with a preamp ....
They turn up as dekos all the time. Then again, they are only £70 at full price. -
Thomann selling Harley Benton basses as 'Decoration only'
Annoying Twit replied to Annoying Twit's topic in Bass Guitars
The guitarists have been buying them quick for years. If anyone wants a challenge, see if you can buy a Les Paul copy deko. Respect to anyone who manages it. -
Apart from mine being labelled a Cimar, yours is identical to mine, I believe. IMHO mine sounds good and does the job.

Thomann selling Harley Benton basses as 'Decoration only'
Annoying Twit replied to Annoying Twit's topic in Bass Guitars
A whole lot of guitars appeared on the mobile site. This is the first time that my considerably rewritten program has actually found dekos, so I was pleased to see that working. EDIT: They all disappeared quickly apart from the P-Bass mentioned above. But, at least I saw them. My old program had become useless as everything was appearing on the mobile site first, and selling out. My new one watches both. It doesn't have a GUI yet nor does it keep track of appearances and disappearances, but it will be easy to add that. There's still a roundback acoustic guitar, and one of the cheap classicals. https://m.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_cg200ce_bk_deko.htm?o=4&ref=mal_a_4&search=1449054684 Some people here have bought the CG200 before (I believe), so it's worth mentioning. Maybe. -

Good luck for a good result. -
The Jaydee with the bum looks so much better to me.
"But why did they have to call it Stagg?!....... STAGG??!!"
I find it staggering that they couldn't come up with a better name for it. You'd think that someone would take hold of the horns of the dilemma and do a rebrand.

Good luck for the basses. It sounds as if you have very good plans for them. -
Left handed Warwick RockBass - £20
Annoying Twit replied to TheGreek's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
50-odd minutes to go, still £20. That's the power of a poor listing. Jon.
Holy sh*t. Sold for £19.99. Did anyone take Kev up on his bet? -
I'm not skilled enough to give advice, but note that the kit looks like many other kits sold by many sources. Among the commonly available kits, there was at one time a headless bass kit with a small body (but not Steinberger small). Would that be an option for you? I expect that if you search, you'll be able to find one somewhere. Here's one, but this is more expensive than I remember them being and more expensive than the kit you link to. http://www.diyguitar...it-diy-project- Additional searching may reveal cheaper places to buy. I thought that diyguitar did a Steinberger style headless bass kit too, but now I look I can't find it. However, there is one on Amazon, but it's even more expensive. Though £150 seems quite a bit of money to pay for a kit which likely has meh hardware. http://www.amazon.co...J5MJ4FJRS88ME5D As far as the finishing, I'm no expert, but why don't you have a look at the work done by Andyjr1515 in the build section. He's done work on some basses including using veneers to add very fancy tops to previously plain wood. (I've seen his refinished Jaguar in the flesh). That way even plain wood can end up looking very fancy. EDIT: Here's a thread where Andy uses veneer on a headstock, but it includes a picture of a veneer refinished Ibanez. http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry2865855 Just some ideas. Sorry if I've wasted your time by speaking about things of which I know not.

I've read the reviews and online discussions of 'Chibsons' etc. What has struck me is that the description of the quality of the instrument is similar to what I read for cheaper branded instruments. E.g. for a Les Paul guitar, to a Harley Benton Les Paul. So, unless someone really wants the instrument to have the name "Gibson" on it in the slightly inaccurate font, then there isn't really an advantage that I can see to the Chibson, as the Chibsons are much more expensive. In the case of Tommorichards' bass, I think that the custom side of it is a big plus. But again, the description is that the bass was fairly good quality but needed better hardware and strings. Which might again be what you might expect from some of the budget lines. But, I think that Tommorichards' example shows what can be done. I've read that others have had entirely custom guitars made by the Chinese factories for much less (but with less, but still reasonable, quality) than a custom builder in the UK would make one for. That's something that I'm surprised that more people don't do. I want to be clear here, I don't think getting a bass custom made in a Chinese factory is an alternative to having a UK builder make one. These are entirely different markets working at entirely different price points and producing a product at a different level of quality. EDIT: I should have looked at Tommorichards' link before posting. That really is quite different from what you had delivered. Very much a custom bass, with some vague similarities to the original. I like your bass a lot. The original looks ... well .... EDIT: For this 8 string bass, won't it cause some sort of inbalance if te middle strings are being picked up by three pickups, but the outer strings are only being picked up by two or one pickup? http://www.aliexpress.com/item/8-String-Bass-Guitar/2000434195.html?spm=2114.031010208.3.105.PqDpJP&ws_ab_test=searchweb201556_1_79_78_77_80,searchweb201644_5,searchweb201560_10

Left handed Warwick RockBass - £20
Annoying Twit replied to TheGreek's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
It won't go for £20, but some of the original big logo Rockbasses go for not very much. I wouldn't be surprised if it went for £80, but different models sell for different amounts. So I could be way off. -
Whoops! Metal person buys fretless by mistake
Annoying Twit replied to Annoying Twit's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Is £335 a bit high for a Rockbass Streamer Standard? Or are the newer small w ones worth that much? I've looked online, and £404 seems to be a new price. However, for one that looks much less impressive (to me anyhow) compared to the one in the ebay listing. EDIT: New evidence just in is making me think profit motive is behind the 'accidental' purchase. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Warwick-Streamer-Standard-RockBass-fretless-bass-guitar-/201457807130?hash=item2ee7d22f1a%3Ag%3Ai1oAAOSw%7EbFWMlj%7E&nma=true&si=5ii2MrthFhDe0jkLXdjuN8WEl6M%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Note that the buyer of the £132 Rockbass fretless has the same number of positive feedback as the seller of the £335 Rockbass. -
That fingerboard is probably tigerstripe ebony.
Ebony fretboard? I'm not going to buy it, but it does look rather nice to me. -

Is there an odd mark or lighter region on the fretboard? I was thinking it looked absolutely the real deal until I noticed that.
Has anyone ever messaged him and asked if he is, in fact, MENTAL?
Has anyone on this thread suddenly disappeared, and never been heard off again? Given that they're making some new episodes of The League of Gentlemen, perhaps they might buy it as a prop.

I'm sure I've seen that big bottom with a puckered anus shape before. I think it's one of the standard shapes made by some Chinese factory.

Advice on fretless squire vm precision
Annoying Twit replied to spiltmilk_2000's topic in Bass Guitars
I'm not enough of a connoisseur to give a reliable review. But, I tried one VM fretless jazz and thought it was absolutely the bees knees. To me (see disclaimer) there is a difference between the 'proper fenders' and even VM squires. But, the VMJ I tried felt absolutely perfect. I didn't like a VM fretless precision I tried nearly so much, that felt a bit cheaper. -
Sold the jazz body as the P neck was a banana with knackered truss rod.
It sounds to me that you have made a silk purse from a mixed bag. If you'll be kind and ignore the metaphorical confusion of that statement.
