I can only mirror the sentiments that sometimes you feel restricted by what you post but technology is a great thing & the ignore feature is even better My life on this forum improved greatly once i learned to use it
If it helps more, I used plastikote stuff for the back and sides - the primer was their "primer super" aerosol, and the overcoat was the fast drying enamel in the small aerosol. I didn't put a finish on the back and sides because enamel paint shouldn't chip too easily. I can't remember what acrylics I used for the artwork but they were bog standard from hobby craft or somewhere like that. And I used a brush-on Matt varnish from the hardware store to go over the top of the front.
Belting mate Cheers for this, because the guitar is yellow I was thinking of just going for a matt black finish & then do my artwork on that. I'm not sure yet as I've never painted a guitar before. should be interesting anyway !

I'm not as good as the two guys named below !
listen to anything by level 42, but the first few albums are good self titled album the early tapes pursuit of accidents standing in the light true colours also check out mark kings first album influences, especially the 19 minute 'the essential' some phenomenal bass playing on there, he plays all instruments too absolutely love the guy though, my biggest musical hero, mainly for being bought up with level 42 by my old man, being dragged to a few mark king gigs, its made me realise how good he is as a musician and what a lovely person too, got a couple of my basses signed by him and he even played 'dune tune' on my jaydee a few years ago
Cool will give these a go cheers

I don't know anything by this guy although I feel like I should. Is this a good album to start from ?
I've only done the one, but I can offer what little info I have... Can't guarantee it's right though I just sanded until the poly was Matt, primed, sprayed the back and sides of the guitar and then used acrylics straight on to the primer on the front. Turned out well I think (apart from my lack of painting talent haha)
Nice one mate, thanks for this The guitar in question is a yellow Les-Paul style that we was thinking of fixing up & my mate wants me to do some of my artwork on it. If it's easy to do I think I may go for it. its just doing the finish afterwards that was bothering me.

Anyone who offers an apology in my eyes deserves a level of respect. we all say & do things that are at times not the best, it's not how you fall its always how you land.
You shouldn't base your musical taste on a bands fan base. You've got it wrong from the beginning there pal.
erm did you read my post properly ? is it actually difficult to understand? "One of the" part of a sentence usually gives it away to being more reason So in a way you have proven my point by not actually reading my post you just assumed that I'm wrong because I'm not a fan of the Beatles......pal !

I have said it before & will say it again. I've tried several times over the years to 'Get' the Beatles but failed every time. I just don't like their music & I don't think I ever will. They were a big band that probably have influenced loads of stuff that I am unaware of, but lets face it as someone stated before, you can never understand the change they brought about unless you remember a world without them, but lets face it in 15-20 years time no one will be alive who can so they will fall back to memory I suppose. It is also worth noting that one of the main reasons why I don't like the Beatles is that fervent almost religious fan base they have. This thread has just re-enforced my opinion of that.....a little bit spooky to be honest. If you love the Beatles & have fun listening to their music that's great, but don't act so offended if other people do not agree. Music is something we all have a passion for but the world would be crap if we all loved the same thing. Chill out guys

So guys how would you go about painting artwork onto a guitar/bass ? The reason I ask is that my mate has been hassling me for years to paint a guitar for him but I have no idea how I would do it.

Is the global recession producing any good new music?
I'm not a big fan of Plan B, but I did quite like his track Ill Manors (link here of it live on Jules), which I thought was one of the more politicised chart songs of last year. Some interesting lyrics anyway
Erm wow love the lyrics -
ooooo now then this is of great interest to me. I have a cheap guitar that someone threw away & I want to make good again, the only thing is that it's a bright yellow. I was thinking about repainting it. So it's possible to just lightly sand down the guitar as it is & prime directly onto it ?

The older I get, the harder it is to listen to new bands.....
Ok, maybe not all new music. I don't seem to be digging around so much finding new acts that inspire me, so it's the music that I do get to hear on the radio and TV. That's probably a big part of the problem I'm having, I need to start looking harder for good music. I'm not arguing the fact that I come across as a miserable old git I'm a bit disgusted with myself for it and it's a fairly recent development for me too. I'm also not saying that newer bands doing the same style of music as the stuff I listened to years ago are any worse, just that I've heard it before and doesn't give me that buzz / chills down the spine sensation of hearing something unexpected.
Yeh mate I do understand your point, always read my comments in the tone of a stoned news reader lol But I just feel for the younger guys, these kids were not borne into a golden age of music, in most cases they were borne into an age where music is considered as disposable & throw away. They have a different approach to music, information & the world. Our generation have to stop judging these kids with our set of rules because they are not their rules. that's why we have now got a generation gap far wider than we had with our parents. -

Right don't take this as a dig at anyone here because it really isn't but I went on a rant about music this weekend at a person saying pretty much the same thing as the OP, below is basically what I said to him, in a balanced laid back way, this is my opinion only & like all opinions it's how it come out of my head, not a well balanced perfectly researched argument. The issue I have with this is that we hear older guys harp on about how the older bands (Like Zeppy-Beatles-Queen-Deep purple etc) are so much better & the style of music is far more superior but then get annoyed at new or younger bands pay homage to these very same bands. I hear older guys say that new music is crap & they don't like it but them moan when young kids play music from the very same generation that is supposedly better...... I mean is there anything that younger bands/kids can do that is ok by the old gits nowadays ? I personally love it when you get bands like Wolfmother who unashamedly show their love for Deep Purple & Led Zepplin, let them be true to who they are & bring this music to younger audiences, they are not hurting anyone, they are playing music that they love (Which just happens to be the music that older guys love too) If for instance some 12 year old kid listens to these newer bands & then checks out these bands influences, you are going to get kids being influenced by older bands who broke the mould in a fantastic way, is this a bad thing ? I don't really think that it is. I think to a point it's the "I was there maaaan" attitude that the oldies hold so dear. Lets face it, through the saturated world of modern music, it's almost impossible to do something different, all you can hope for is something good & taking influences from the 60& 70's is no bad thing in my book. -

You want that dock above but with a block rocker attached, my mate has one & they are fantastic for outdoor parties as they are battery driven & the battery does last at top volume as well.
