I think its all about how you feel within yourself. I'm going through a crisis of age at the moment I have been looking for a band or someone to jam with as I'm starting to stall with my progression on learning bass so I think getting out there & stepping out of my comfort zone would be good for me. But most of the adverts I'm seeing are asking for bass players in their 20's (I'm 36) I have to admit it is really bothering me & it made me ask if there was any point in carrying on playing bass any more & my enthusiasm is waning away. To give you a idea I'm 36 years old and have lost all useful traces of my hair so I am feeling a lot older than my years, So now I'm thinking that my style of clothes should change to suit my age, I don't want to look like I'm hanging onto my youth but I also don't want to feel old either, Sometimes the you get a thought in your head & it can change the way you see yourself & I have to admit with all joking aside it's knocked me for six.

I love playing basic bass lines, when doing gigs it gave me more freedom to dance about & be silly. I always see being a bass player-ist as being part of a team, sometimes you have to be the team player & hold a solid foundation, at the end of it all its what comes out of the speakers & how it is received by the listener that counts

Right guys without going into too many boring details I will keep it brief: I'm building a pedal board with a difference & I am planning to enclose all the power leads & patch cables so there will be no mess on show. the board will then pack away with only the cable to Bass, one to the mains & the amp having to be unplugged. So in my quest to keep it simple I'm looking at power options: here is my questions If I have several normal effects pedals that are say 9v 100mA (say three of these) and one multi effects pedal that is 9v 500mA is there a power supply unit that can run all these from one unit ? or is this just me being stupid ? If so is it going to be silly money ? If there is no way a power unit would do it as a second option I was looking at running the 9v 100mA pedals with a daisy chain connector (like this one) so I could run them from one plug socket but are unsure if these are any good. Has anyone tried these ? Because I'm enclosing all the cables I am trying to cut down the amount of mains plugs for space saving if this makes any sense ?
If you're using a metal case, that provides all the ground connections. If you're using a non-conductor you'll need all the black wires. I normally use the 7/0.2mm stranded wire from Bitsbox: http://www.bitsbox.c...able/cable.html
Ooo cheers dude, My brain always needs to understand fully before I do something. thanks for the link. I'm planning loads of ideas on this board so need everything to be clear in my mind lol

To the OP I can echo what a few have said on here really, Don't try too much, Mojo is for younger lads, Being a older dude you have run round the block already take the foot off the gas & coast ! A guy I know is in his 60's & often does guest slots with bands who are aged in their 20's & 30's. He will always go on stage dressed really well, (either a suit or a shirt, trousers & a waste coat). Because of his older years he looks fantastic, he will always bring a level of dignity to the younger band. Just by dressing well & doing his thing. Like I always say, dress your age & you will always look good. But don't try or you will look false & uncomfortable.

Hi Protium cheers for this. How come it still works without the black wires ? That pic is exactly what I'm planning but with the stomp switches sticking out of the top of my board Also one last question: I need 0.5mm stranded cable for this ?

Ok noob question: what type of wire do i use ? just been googling and all sorts of answers are coming up I've found #24 prebonded wire is better but that makes no sense to what I'm looking at to order Also where I join up the black wire (between the two Send & return jacks) what its the best way ? solder or insert some kind of junction connector, i want to do this right & have no worries about it being a bit crap.......crapness comes from my playing not the kit i have lol

ha haaa ! light goes on. I was struggling when you explained it at first lol cheers mate This will be built into my pedal board so only need the case for the jack plugs & the switches will be up on the top surface of the pedal board itself. cheers again mate

Hi guys Without boring you with my life story I'm looking to make my first pedal, i want to make a true bypass looper (It will be built into my pedal board) I want two effects loops & have the ability to choose which loop I want to use on the hop. obviously I want them with a stomp switch, Now I'm getting very confused with the terminology on this site (I did a google search all by myself ) can someone please offer advice as to which one I want please ? http://www.beavisaud...tcher/index.htm Now I think I just need to follow these schematics on the last one at the bottom called the "Effects order switcher" but replace the 4PDT switch with a 4PDT foot switch. which i think the simple way to go but what I would like to know is can you have a switch for each loop that you can just turn on & off like the pick below. So is it possible to modify the schematic & if so how ?

So I'm not sure of the argument against Peter Hook (Son of Capt.. cousin to Dr) is doing a talk ? If he gets asked to do a talk at a show & they call it a "master class" so what ? we all know what it is, personally there is more pressing subjects going on in life than moaning about what people call a open talk....Lecture, Master class or Bernard do we really care nowadays ? Are we really that low on things to talk about on here ?

I am pleased they are having something like this with Peter Hook. As its usually people who are considered greats but a little hardcore for the everyday listener (For instance Jaco is considered a great in Bass playing circles but I personally don't like his style, by the way I know he's dead but I hope you catch my drift). Although I'm not a fan of Hooky's music I do like what he does, technically it may not be superior or that hard to play but it still is very different to a lot of styles out there. I think it's healthy to look at music differently & listen to people who try something new.

My personal opinion of the demise of HMV is sadness for the staff but but the brand & business. There are three main music stores in Leeds HMV, Crash records & Jumbo records. I used to love visiting Crash & Jumbo, talking to the staff, listening to music, finding new stuff & getting the odd cuppa offered during quiet days, they sold gig tickets as well. I remember the time when I first went into the HMV mega store & it was stunning, I remember standing there just gob smacked at how big that place was......then after spending 10 mins in there I just didn't get it. It felt soulless a bit too big and no I didn't like it at all. so I never shopped there unless I really had no other choice. Now the company is now gone & I look back at Leeds city centre two main shops remain Jumbo & Crash ......maybe there is legs in the old business/service you get from the old style of shops. Maybe the larger companies are collapsing like the castles of old, larger more overheads more to go wrong. It is a shame but like the OP says not a surprise

Any song is dangerous when driving the bass will prevent you from controlling the vehicle properly. I know this to be true when I took up drums & ended up in a ditch.....for driving try the flute with the window open

I have to agree with the well put OP. I laugh all the time on here, mostly out loud (even at times when people are not trying to be funny) but then again I find comedy in people all the time. Great place made great by fantastic people
