  1. For sale is a passive EMG GZR PJ HZ pickup set. Boxed with detailed installation instructions, all wiring, connectors, pots, jack, screws, etc. As per the photos, note that both the P & J pickups have had the black plastic tabs removed, this was done in readiness for use in a different pre-wired loom. TBH I got tangled up in knots trying to figure it all out (think I bit off more than I could chew), in the end gave up & have since sold my PJ basses so have no use for this set now. Said tabs are present, but like I said they have been cut away from the pickup wires. No control knobs included with the set. This set would suit someone who is good at soldering and/or is confident they are able to install the pickups into their bass somehow, given the photos & description of the tab-less pickup wires. I’m a little sad that I never got to try these out, but such is life. £85 delivered, please PM me if interested, thanks.
  2. Martin bought some strings from me. Paid quickly & had no choice but to be patient through postal strikes. Cheers!
  3. Brian bought a Mexican Fender Precision from me. Paid up quickly with great comms & was a true gent throughout. A credit to Basschat
  4. SOLD For sale (no trade offers please) is a Squier by Fender Vintage Modified Precision PJ bass from 2013 in lovely Candy Apple Red with rosewood fingerboard. Comes in Fender shaped hard case. Long scale, right handed. This is a really great bass that punches above its price point. It has a normal precision nut width of 1.625 inches, but a slim and very playable front to back thickness, measured with digital calipers as just 0.792 inches at the 1st fret and 0.918 inches at the 12th fret (neck profile near identical to the American Specials that were known for their slim necks). Bought from another Basschatter, as a kind of stopgap bass whilst waiting for something else to come up. That is now here, so I need to let this one go. Excellent used condition, a few minor marks consistent with age and normal use - mainly some small marks near the jack as shown, and a tiny lacquer chip on back of headstock. No dings or chunks missing, and no marks visible from playing position. Solid agathis body, amber-tinted lacquered maple neck, with rosewood fingerboard, lemon oiled on recent string change. Strung with GHS Boomer nickel roundwounds 45-105, loads of life left in them. Gloss headstock with 70s style decals. 3-ply BWB plate with usual scratching on it. Bass weighs an insanely light 3.2Kg (7.2lbs) on my digital luggage scales and certainly feels like it. Easily the lightest and most comfy to play P bass I've ever tried. Stock open gear tuners, Hi-Mass bridge, & Fender Designed Alnico P pickup and DiMarzio style jazz pickup. I had a KiOgon VBT (Volume - Blend - Tone) wiring loom installed, with Switchcraft thru-body side jack. I put a set of black plastic jazz knobs on, just really to give a point of reference for the blend pot, even though it has a centre indent anyway. I will also include the stock push-on domed knobs. There are some great tones to be had when sweeping the blend knob. The wiring loom has solderless screw terminals, so if you like to tinker, it would be easy enough to change pickups. One thing I have to mention is the gorgeous Candy Apple Red finish. It's really hard to capture this on photos, but in person it looks killer, and has a lovely copper / burnt orange tint to it that you can only really appreciate in person. The case is a quality, well padded Fender shaped hard case. It is a little beat up but still rock solid. The latches all work and there is an under neck tab pull pocket. The keys are present but I just tried and it seems the lock doesn't work as it's just spinning round. Could be fixable, I don't know, I've never tried to lock it in all the years I've had it anyway. It's a great case anyway and lighter than the newer style Fender ones. Price includes postage to mainland UK address. Collection possible from Southport, or meet-up in North West within reason. I will knock 30 quid off the price if anyone collects. Otherwise, postage is for Parcelforce 24 hour next day, fully protected, trackable delivery (live tracking possible on the day). I should be able to ship within 1 working day of payment being received. Feel free to check my Basschat feedback and please PM if interested, or wanting more photos. It really is a great bass for the money, you'd be hard pushed to find a lighter, more comfy P bass without paying silly money for something custom! NO TRADE OFFERS WHATSOEVER PLEASE. I don't need any more basses, just some money and space back.
  5. £15 posted D’Addario EXL160S Short Scale nickel roundwound medium gauge 50-105 strings. I bought these for a Mustang, not realising that you need medium scale strings for a string thru bridge short scale bass until I’d put them on. After which I barely touched them until the medium scale strings I should’ve ordered to begin with arrived a few days later. So, they were cut for a string thru Mustang but tapered before the nut, so I guess they should fit any non string thru bridge short scale bass. If you’re unsure, please try and find out or contact me. I’ve never sold strings before but they cost £24 new (same seller has them at £29 now just weeks after) so it seems silly to bin them if they can be of use to someone.
  6. You’re welcome. I’ve only learned this stuff in recent months myself. Just be aware that there is still a huge amount of variation in what Fender call a ‘Modern C’ shape neck. Whilst the American Specials had ‘Slim Modern C’ clearly stated in the spec, the thinnest and thickest P bass necks I mentioned above both just said ‘Modern C’ in Fender’s ‘Serial Number Check’. It’s very infuriating. It’s hard to tell, but from the photos the neck of the 97 Deluxe looks reasonably chunky, in which case I can see why you love the Highway 1 neck. The MIM I’m selling is a bit lighter than your Deluxe, and I’m sure a buyer could shed some weight off it should they choose to, by installing a lighter bridge (though the Hipshot is very good). The neck is quite slim for a P and very playable.
  7. Just spotted this. If you like a P bass but prefer a slimmer neck (in terms of front to back thickness), there are necks out there that are slimmer than USA Standards. I don't know for certain about the neck profile of the Highway One P basses, but I know that the American Specials made from around 2010-2014 had a slimmer neck, measuring 0.790" at the 1st fret, and I believe that this model was itself an update of the Highway One P bass. I don't know if you have a set of digital calipers to measure your neck thicknesses, but regardless, clearly you can feel the difference with your own hands from your 1997 USA and your friend's 2003 Highway 1. For some context, I struggled with a 2008 USA P bass, the neck thickness of which measured 0.850 at the 1st fret. The 2013/14 MIM I am selling has a nice playable, relatively slim front to back thickness of 0.820" at 1st fret, and a 2021 Player P bass I just acquired has an even slimmer thickness of just 0.800" at 1st fret, near identical to the American Specials. I'd guess that the neck profile of this is very similar to that of your friend's Highway 1. I also have a Squier Vintage Modified PJ bass measuring 0.792" at 1st fret. So P basses with slimmer necks are out there for sure. Also lighter weight ones too. My Player is not much over 8lbs. I hope this has been helpful.
  8. Really nicely looked after example of a great P bass model. I had a 2004 Chrome Red model for 6-7 years until quite recently. Only sold it on as I felt ready for a change. It was a great bass with a lovely satin urethane neck and fingerboard (most boards since 2008 have been glossy I think). If anyone is on the fence here I say to go for it. GLWTS
  9. *Price drop, now £450 delivered* For sale (no trade offers please) is a Fender Mexican (MIM) Precision bass in lovely Lake Placid Blue with maple neck, in a mint condition Fender hard case. Long scale, right handed. It has a 2013 serial number, but according to Fender's serial number check, it was registered in 2014. I've read that the quality of MIM Fender basses improved a fair bit post 2008, then again in 2012. This certainly seems to be the case to me. This is a rock solid P bass, with a really nice & fairly slim neck. I've only had this a few weeks, and only selling as I was very naughty and bought another bass before this had even arrived & have decided to keep that one. If that hadn't come up, I'd have happily kept this one, but alas I have to let it go. The bass came to me with a pair of nice upgrades, in the form of Seymour Duncan pickups (possibly Quarter Pounders, I haven't had the plate off to check), and what I think is a Hipshot Kickass hi-mass bridge with adjustable string spacing. It has a lovely gloss maple fingerboard & headstock, with a nice fast satin urethane finish on the back of the neck. It is a relatively slim, very playable P bass neck, with a front to back thickness (measured with calipers) at the 1st fret of 0.820 inches, and at the 12th fret of 0.893 inches. Usual P nut width of 1.625 inches. It weighs 4.1Kg (9lbs) on my digital luggage scales and balances well. Stock open gear tuners, strung with unknown nickel roundwounds with life left in them. Excellent condition, with only minor wear / small knock marks consistent with age, no deep dings or chunks missing, only paint removed is a small knock of 1cm around the bridge strap button, and there are a couple of tiny knocks on the underside of the headstock. The case is a quality, well padded mint condition Fender 'Pro series bass case' with tag still attached & keys present, and a decent sized open pocket for cables, etc. Lake Placid Blue is one of those colours I think looks better in person, there was sunlight coming in when I took the photos, it's not quite as bright and shiny up close. Collection possible from Southport, meet-up in North West within reason, or posted to mainland UK address at buyer's expense of 30 pounds on top of sale price. This is for Parcelforce 24 hour next day, fully protected, trackable delivery (live tracking possible on the day). I should be able to ship within 1 working day of payment being received. Feel free to check my Basschat feedback and please PM if interested, or wanting more photos. NO TRADE OFFERS WHATSOEVER PLEASE. I don't need any more basses, just some money and space back.
  10. Dominic bought a Mustang bass from me. Paid up quickly, with great comms throughout. Deal with confidence!
  11. Bought a bass from Conor, stunning condition, arrived quickly & well packed with good comms throughout. Thanks!
  12. Mark Hamilton from Ash removed the G tuning post from his Thunderbird after realising early on that he never used that string. Mark Sandman from Morphine only needed 2 strings!
  13. *Now £275* For sale is a Squier by Fender Vintage Modified Mustang bass from 2011. Short scale (30 inches) in Sunburst, crafted in Indonesia. These were only made from 2011-2013 and don't come up for sale that often. It's rare to find a Mustang with a nice satin urethane maple neck like this, as most of them have that heavy glossing on the back, which is not to everyone's taste. I would describe the condition as somewhere between very good and excellent. There are a few marks consistent with age and normal use, the worst is a small cluster of minor knock marks, which is out of sight when playing anyway, as you can see from the photos. Some tiny marks and scratches on front of body and pickguard. I put black screws on the pickguard but can include the original silver ones too. Jazz width nut of 1.5 inches. Nice slim, playable neck thickness, measured with calipers just before the 1st fret of 0.810 inches. It weighs in at a lightweight 3.2Kg (7.2lbs) on my digital luggage scales, and as such is very comfy to play, with no neck dive. Just re-strung with new D'Addario EXL160M medium scale 50-105 nickel roundwound strings. 19 fret maple fingerboard with lovely satin finish. String-thru bridge. As far as I can see, everything is stock. I only bought it recently myself, but I don't think short scale is for me. It's a lot of fun to play on my lap, but to stand and play, I just prefer long scale. If I ever absolutely had to move over to short scale, I wouldn't hesitate to get something like this again, especially as this neck is so nice and easy to play, but for now I need to move it on as I just prefer a good old Precision. No dings to the nice headstock which has 70s style decals. Electronics all working, the tone pot is a little scratchy, but this could be easily fixed if it bothers you. There is a bit of buzz when not touching the strings, so I guess the cavities may just need some shielding. Again, easily and cheaply sorted if you know what you're doing. It will come in a basic TGI padded gig bag, which will be well wrapped in strong outer card box. Feel free to check my Basschat feedback and please PM if interested. Open to sensible offers, as I would rather sell on here than on eBay. Any Mustang fans should love this, also it's a perfect way to dip your toes into the waters of short scale without spending silly money. NO TRADE OFFERS WHATSOEVER PLEASE. I recently bought another bass, and will have another arrive any day now, so I don't need any bass offers, just some money and space back. (Edit: Just wanted to get back around what I paid, which was £300, but realised I possibly overpaid a little anyway, price now dropped to £275).

  18. Some places have the short Stingrays for £700, but even that sounds a lot based on your description. I can’t be certain but weren’t they nearer £600 a while back? I was looking at some notes I wrote a good few months ago when I first started looking into SS, and the Schecter Banshee has also gone up £100 from what it was then, to around £760. I guess unless you’re absolutely certain what you’re wanting, the frustrating waiting game of buying used comes into play. I haven’t seen much mention of the Banshee over here, but it seems to be well made with good components from what I can gather. I’m not sure what I make of the Tele looks and mini pickguard, but it least it’s something a bit different. Never see them coming up used. Anyone tried them?
  19. After my scale length rookie error the other day, I’ve got the medium scales on the Mustang now. As the short scale strings are as good as new, I may as well keep them as spares, for in case I end up with another shorty, or sell them. I just realised that I’ve never actually taken strings off before with the intention of reusing them, I normally just cut them off (after detuning of course). Stupid question alert: how the hell are you supposed to curl the strings back up to pack away / sell? Every time I try they just pop out again. What’s the trick to it? Thanks
