I always tried to learn exactly as the recording, but soon learned the drummer wasnt going to play the same. It annoyed me when certain drum fills weren't there or accurate bass fills no longer fit so just played what suited the new drum line

Paul Gray from The Damned and Eddie and the Hot Rods. I love his bass lines and he so rarely gets a mention. Seems like a really nice chap too.

Ali McMordie from Stiff Little Fingers. Original bass player who stayed untill they split. Came back when they reformed but left a few years later and was replaced by The Jams Bruce Foxton. Bruce stayed for about 15 years (I think) and when he left, Ali came back.

I had to chase them down through Facebook, but my amp arrived today. A week since ordering, but an absolute bargain.

I bought an Ashdown combo Fri night. Recieved a confirmation email and nothing. Sent an email yesterday morning which bounced back, phoned and was told they would call be back in 30 mins. That was 23 hours ago.... Anyone actually recieved their order or any further correspondence? Thanks in adv

Unfortunately you can't by the neck directly from Fender.

Sorry if this is wrong place to post Does anyone of any companies who make necks to the same spec as the Nate Mendel sig bass? It's the perfect middle ground btween a jazz and a standard P for me, and I want to put one on a home build. Thanks

Apologies if this is a frequently asked question, but as the bsnd are unable to record, we want to try some home recording. Guitarist sends his idea to the drummer who adds via electric kit, he forwards on to me to add bass and then i forward to singer! Can anyone recommend a laptop (not Mac) and software?? Thanks in adv

We use Teamup as well. I say we, but half the band don't bother and moan when I book a gig they are unavailable for. First world problems, huh.

I have used different strap locks over the years. One consistent problem I have found is with thick leather straps. Just bought a new P Bass and the fender strap lock doesn't fit between strap and the bolt.

I think if I were in the situation where I were fired from my band and asked to play next and show and agreed, the period between firing and gig would eat me up. I would be constantly wondering what I did wrong. Playing is obviously good enough if wanted for next show! In the end I'd just work myself into a rage. Op's former band mates handled this terribly.

Drive from south Bucks to Coalville to play mid card on a 7 band line up last night, where really only the bands showed up. Still, we gave it our all and we seemed to go down well. Headline bands bass player complimented me on by bass lines and tone, so felt like a win despite the disappointing turn out. Feels like original bands are struggling to find an audience atm.

I have the Nikki Sixx Gibson Blackbird. Rehearsed with it, but never gigged. Cool looking bass, but often think about selling it on. I would love to ry out the Nate Mendel. Not a Foos fan, but I like the high mass bridge and I understand the neck is lovely. I would also like to try the new Duff McKagan. Maybe time to sell on the Blackbird so I can acquire the Mendel or McKagan,

So if I plug in 2 8ohm cabs, I set the Bass terror to 4ohms?

Can't believe no one has mentioned Lemmy and Motorhead! Lemmy was the only original left when they released their classic albums Overkill, Bomber, Ace of Spades and No Sleep till Hammersmith. Even when Phil Taylor and Fast Eddie left the group I don't think anyone begrudged Lemmy carrying on with the name. He WAS Motorhead.

Hahaha, of my old band had a strange rule of no wearing band shirts on stage - they also had an exception for Motorhead!!!

Great topic! My band also sells shirts. I'm amazed by how popular they - so popular the profits should fund our next EP. Personally, I don't wear mine - I find it a bit cringe to wear your own shirt. Having said that, our singer wears his when going to see other bands in the local area and he has people approach him to say they like the band, so I guess the cringe factor is something I need to get over! I know a band who all wear their band shirt on stage, almost like a uniform. To me it does not look good at all. We have our logo on our amps, so to wear the shirts as well I think would be branding over load!

With out wanting to sound like a diva, I would make it clear that I wouldn't be playing if the band isn't fully/properly rehearsed. Great to have that one amazing song, but if the remaining 56 mins of the set are pony, it would do far more harm than good. Alarm bells should be ringing that the singer isn't listening to everyone else's concerns. If the song isn't ready, park it - concentrate on the other songs for the gig. If he can't understand that, then future of the group doesn't look good. Hope you can talk some sense into him!
