Yes i was wondering about the necks ,how they feel ,how they play,?does anyone know if the neck shape /size is similar to the Yamaha BB424x which i already have but as you may know with me playing Bass in a SKA band i'm still not sure that my Yam is the real deal,and i have been advised to look at the Squier Classic vibe 70S for that reason TBH

?Anyone got one /play one, has one for sale .What are they like to play. I think i need feedback before even going out and playing one.

I had this problem and i did solve it in the end after a year and a half of practising with my amp plugged in albeit it's only a Orange Crush Bass 50,but i was asked to turn it down quite a few times,tried wearing headphones but i am one of those that hate wearing them i just end up with a massive headache after 15 mins. Here's my solution and it won't cost a lot provided you are capable of DIY.. Go out and purchase some of these boards... http://www.less2build.com/dry-lining/thermal-backed-boards/gyproc-thermaline-basic-standard-40mm i bought four sheets to cover my wall which adjoins the neighbours. Screw some battens onto the wall then fix the boards onto the battens using plaster boards nails and them get hold of some plasterboard filler patch it up then either paint it or wall paper it's that easy,this will considerably reduce the sound going through the walls.It's worked for me with no more complaints.Failing this DIY get someone in for a quote but it really is a simple job.

Ohhh Yes,a very talented group of musicians,i too am hankering after seeing them live ,but unlike you i have always been a fan.

Can't believe you turned down a chance to audition for The Selector,they were spot on the other night although i have to say Rankin Roger made the difference with the Beat performance,still jumping about at his age was amazing.

Yes i did think to go Fender Jazz,but i thought the Yamaha was a little bright with the rotosound roundwounds i have on ATM,?do you think it would be better to stick some Flatwounds on her just to see what they soundlike before buying a new guitar,or am i never going to get the right sound from my Yammy.

As the title suggests i may have a chance of playing in a Ska type band doing covers of people like the Specials, The Beat,The Selecter ETC. I currently play a Yamaha BB 424 x which i think is not ideal for this genre as i think it sounds a bit too bright,so any recommendations for a better sounding Bass.

[/quote] i have a BB424x a white one as well i would have to spend a lot more money to get anywhere near the sound these things push out for the price,i am in a 60s type rock n roll band so it never gets fired up totally,but have to say it is on the heavy side. I also own a Ibanez SR 300 which is like holding a ice lolly stick in my hands compared to the Yam.

Used to live in Brid many moons ago,been playing bass for a couple of years now,living in Derbyshire now so too far away or i would have jumped at the chance.Good luck with your quest.

Thanks for all replies,i'm taking them all on board,i think that i should be looking at a better practice amp for now,as the one in this band i'm joining is an old one apparently,any way i may go and try some out in the music shops around me,would this mean taking my own Yamie, sounds silly i know but don't want to be lugging it round for the sake of it. My budget is around £250 tops at the moment.

Thanks for the feedback chaps some very good advice here,i'm waiting for a phone call to ask me if i'm up for it and after reading some of your encouraging replies i think i'm going to tell him i am interested.Now these musicians are the real mccoy they have been at it for 30 plus years and i'm thinking ?are they desperate,they know i'm a beginner,like i say i'm flattered but i don't want to make a fool of myself. i'll put a post up of some of the songs they want me to learn ,see what you think.

I've been asked if i would be interested in playing bass in a Rock n Roll type oldies band,they have somewhere around 60 odd songs that they play,and i've been given a list to see how i would get on with them ,now i am a novice as some of you may know. Not really into rock n roll fan really ,i'm a 70s type music man to be fair. Given the fact that some of you guys are well clued up on such matters i am open to some suggestions as to how you lads might approach this.I wasn't really expecting the offer their regular bassist has taken ill and can't play anymore so it may be that they are stuck for someone so they've asked me,and i'm flattered to be honest,only been playing a year. ?What do you lads reckon.

On this site,just wondering if this could cause any issues at all,It is out by an hour so maybe not gone forward one hour last March.

So come guys get recommending,i'm finding myself wanting to play funk a lot ,so i guess my Yamaha BB424 came from the factory sporting roundwounds although this i'm not totally sure about ,unless someone can enlighten me. Any way if that be the case then i'm in the market for some Flats,so can you recommend me some,but bear in mind i have short arms but long pockets .
