  1. There's a similar-ISH topic on a competitor forum headlined "How can class D amps be tubier than tube amps" or something... The genz benz streamliner series gets a LOT of love in that thread which is great because it's the second ever amp that I bought... when I knew nothing about amps. It's still the best amp I've played through (opinion), and that's what I've based my answers on for the most part. I still own it.
  2. Played at a charity gig yesterday (on two hours sleep- just finished a night shift). It was outside and not under cover which scared me and half way through the gig it did rain (luckily had an umbrella at the ready for my gear). It was only light though and stopped within the minute. Difficult gig - we weren't well rehearsed due to holidays recently, and the wind was playing havoc on the mics... unfortunately as well very few people showed up. It was a real shame as the organisers had forked out a bucket load on entertainment, catering and inflatables. At one point my tiredness tool over as I'd completely forgotten how a bass riff went. Nightmare. There were three other band's also booked- Sweet Revenge were the main band who sounded incredible. (They got the main tent). They played songs how my band tried to play the songs. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed it like usual, but I found it a tough one!
  3. I think my first audition made the band giggle. They're a covers band that will cover anything from gossip to audioslave to GnR. I had never been in a band before, and was terrified turning up to the audition. I'd played the bass for years, at home.... When I get there the bassist before me was just tearing down his 2 4x10 rig with Trace head and I immediately thought "shi what am I doing?" I place my 25 watt peavey practice combo next to it and tell the other bassist I was ready to bring the thunder - we have a laugh. I take my guitar out of its bag. Did I forget to mention I didn't actually own my own bass? It's my sister's that I stole years ago and it still has pink ribbons on the case. Anyway... I play my heart out and barely get heard over the thunderous drums. I place my tiny amp in a corner at head height to allow us to just about hear me and somehow I get the gig! We've just booked our 8th gig in July in front of 200 festival goers.
  4. Green day- good riddance (time of your life) In my band there is even an opportunity for 12 bars of bass solo.... and it's so dull I can't muster any enthusiasm to be creative. It's roots and fifths all the way.
  5. I hope they make a 100watt version of the PF50T. And Yamaha taking over ampeg is a great move also when you look at Yamahas futile bass offerings.
  6. We didn't have a gig last night but we did have an open rehearsal. This is in a larger space which we can use to set up our PA system in. We ask people along for feedback on new songs. Unfortunately an hour before hand our singer decided to slip a disk in her back ... So up I stepped, up the guitarist stepped, up random audience members stepped.... it was great! Only issue was, our audience consisted of 6 people and two pool tables. And there were club matches being held on the pool tables at the time. But hey, I put my new GB streamliner through its paces.
  7. Nothing extravagant, but it's gotten the job done so far. Still saving my pennies for a barefaced.
  8. I don't post often but thought I'd jump on the bandwagon. My first head was bought one year ago... a peavey minimax. I was on a budget so had to find something powerful and that'd last. I played three gigs with it in the first 6 months and at each one got some kind remarks from the crowd on tone. Admittedly I don't have much to compare it to, and I've recently replaced it for a streamliner.... but for the money I was mighty impressed! It's been relegated to my back up but after playing it again the other day I'm having second thoughts! It's got some great tones. At first I was playing through two peavey 2x10 headliners.... I paid full RRP for them (on credit because I was strapped) and to be honest I was majorly disappointed in them, so sold up. Bought a second hand kustom deep end 1x15 cabinet for £30 and boom, cheap and good sounding giggable rig. If I find a second kustom de115h for sale on here, I'd snap it up!
  9. Hey folks, new here but been a lurker for a number of weeks. Played guitar and bass on and off for a few years, but joined my first band in December, covering classic American rock mainly, but anything that'll fill a pub. Favourite song to play is currently Big Fat Mama Playing through an Ibanez bass, (I think a 200?) and just this week bought a Peavey Minimax with a pair of Headliner 2x10 cabs. The Peavey 25watt practise amp wasn't quite cutting it, and the GK mb410 I'd bought went straight back, so I took a chance on the new rig and will report back. Happy gigging!
