  1. I got my Q5 in '96 and she's still my Top Bass, EMGs. It has no truss rod and I learned pretty quickly that the string gauge dictates the neck relief. Some A**hole at the shop tried to BS me that graphite necks don't bend ... Anywhooo ... with 45 65 85 105 135 on there she plays like a dream. Once, just once I had to lower the action with the bridge. She'd been outside in storage for a few months while builders worked in my place. I think the cold and humidity changes must've flexed the wood cos the relief stayed the same.
  2. I've got one of Dave Pegg's old Ibanezes. It is one of two, slightly different models, that he used on tour in the US with the Tull. Part way through the tour Mr Anderson added a song to the tour set that required a fretless so Dave got Ibanez to quickly de-fret one of them, that's the one I now have. Mine is an SR05 and is a Dark Midnight Blue Flake with unusual "stalk" type bridge saddles, whereas the one in the video is a lighter Metallic Blue and has a conventional style bridge (Gotoh?) possibly an SR885.
  3. Excuse me resurrecting this thread but I had to comment. Yesterday I was messing with a looper and wanted to lay down a bass part. Not wanting to fart around with rewiring for bass I just chucked some Precision on and used the Pink one (British TrueTone) to add some bass EQ. Wow! Nice crunchy semi-breakup pleccy rock bass tone. Sounds real and dynamic. Who knew? They certainly don't advertise it as such for bass...they should. I have the Orange one (American) as well, I'll have to try that on bass next .
