Hi again. Sorry, I have another question. We have a Wharfedale R-2004FX mixer. It has a phantom power switch, described as 48V DC, global. The manual says: "27. Phantom Power Switch: When engaged, this switch applies 48Volts DC to all of the microphone inputs to allow the use of condenser microphones. This switch should remain turned off when only using dynamic,, type microphones. Bring the MAIN MIX faders all the way down when turning this switch on and off." Fair enough. I understand that. But last night we set up all our gear, and my drummer wanted to use an overhead condenser microphone. The singers' and all the other mics are dynamic. They are all plugged into the desk via the XLR input sockets, as are our instruments. (1) Can we use the phantom power if both types of mics are plugged into the desk via the XLR sockets? The desk also has a jack input for each channel. If we can't do (1) above, can we (2) plug the dynamic mics into the the input jacks instead, and turn the phantom power on? What about the instruments - should we be using the jack inputs instead if we have phantom power on? I've attached a pic of the desk and the description of the channel inputs from the manual. Thanks in advance.

Monitoring - using Wharfedale R-2004FX desk
missis sumner replied to missis sumner's topic in PA set up and use
Thank you, so much, once again. -
Sorry, another question, but it is completely different to my last question, so I started a new thread...? We have a Wharfedale R-2004FX desk. It only has a single Aux Out. All the online guidance I've seen has said that for monitoring, you should use your Aux Out for signal. We have... get ready for it... a Wharfedale EVP-X12PM active monitor, a similar matching passive monitor, a small active wedge monitor that our drummer uses, and an in-ear box of shite (it's probably not shite, but we have still to get it working properly - it's for our singist and possibly drummer and guitarist, when they can be bothered to put both ear plugs in). Am I right in thinking the best way to set up the monitors is to Aux Out to the big active Wharfedale, send a separate speaker signal to the passive Wharfedale (there is a separate output for this - red circle), line out from the active wedge to the small active wedge, and then line out to the in-ear unit? i.e. daisy chain all the active monitors together through their line-out sends? Is there any way of running this desk so we can get a different mix to some of the monitors? It does had a headphone out, control room out, tape out (I think), but I'm assuming these will all be the main mix?

Wow, thank you for that super fast reply! I take it there is no obvious problem with what we are already doing, though, apart from sending bass frequencies to the Titans (which they seem to cope with quite well, when I do send some bass to the desk). The only reason I am sending bass to the desk is for monitoring... which will probably be my next question. lol

Firstly, apologies. I'm very inexperienced with this PA set-up malarky, so I'm sorry if what I'm saying makes no sense. I've only just been dumped with it after our keys player was fired, lol. Is there anyway we can connect our PASSIVE bass bins (Peavey HISYS 115 XT) to our ACTIVE PA speakers (Wharfedale Titan), so that the output from the bins is a "high-pass" - i.e. so the bass bins take care of the low frequencies and the normal PA speakers take higher stuff? We have a Wharfedale R-2004FX mixing desk, with 4 main outputs on the back - a pair (L & R) of XLRs and a pair of jacks (L & R). At the moment, we are taking the XLRs outputs from the desk to the PA speakers (L & R, marked with yellow and white tape), directly, because the speakers are active. We are then using the jack outputs from the desk to run to a power amp (sorry, don't have the make, at the moment, but marked with green tape) and running the signal from the power amp to the bass bins (marked with red and blue tape(not shown)). Thus the bass bins and the PA speakers are both getting the same signal (main output from the desk - just that one is amplified and one is not). I'm not even sure we're supposed to be using the outputs from the mixer like that... Can we use the outputs from the PASSIVE bass bins (marked "HI-OUTPUT") to run to the ACTIVE speakers? I've attached photos of some of the connections, I hope it helps? Thanks if anyone did manage to make it through this post.

Found on ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/126601414522?itmmeta=01J496460Z968AEFTWMG21RPWN&hash=item1d7a08477a:g:RM0AAOSwbvVmoAkv&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAAwC0VRYaexnI4g%2BQLGQs5kFfTOIdd65ZAewn312WAJ1%2FmJCSqsd2d2HNbg%2BBPMmojZDsUArHfDEbE8jgT8z4ZRcNLcxj5C7CUmktqzowOvNOR37ZCn0UtJk8Vaba3LyrtsLlIiuxoTAjQiTIDqwmtN%2BEvCpj7MYW3JAMVBbzdzt11Gsl%2B49c%2Bs5rEsWCCtOkEJnht1ZBDo9dXME%2BXjfvr1Ojk%2FNXnmxFSub8ZOZE7NoX6Pd%2FpRPQg4AGdn7LGeJ3yhQ%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR8jgkKaiZA&edge=1 Google reverse image search is turning up nothing of use. I vaguely recall seeing a similar headstock/logo before, but I can't place it. Can anyone help? Edit: Ok, own up - who bought it? lol

Thanks. I've sorted it. Sorry.

I see Mark already has a feedback thread so, would just like to add, I bought a lovely almost brand new Yamaha TRBX305 from Mark, yesterday, exactly as described. His house is warm and he makes a really good coffee! Cheers, Mark!

Ah, I was trying to like from a user name...

Does anyone ever monitor Join My Band?
missis sumner replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
I actually got in my first band from JMB... and I'm now on band No. 4. There's probably a whole book to be written there. I'm a little bit sad that it's all settling down now. lol -
How do I leave feedback, these days?

Stolen for Facebook, 😂.

I appreciate that some other basses are quite light as well. If anyone wants to sell me a 5 string that is this light, and is not an EHB, well, let's say I'm open to the suggestion.
-
I have to disagree with this. 5 string basses are always heavier that 4 string basses, of the same type, obviously. But yes, I understand what you mean about some basses being lighter than others. I agree with the rest of your post.

After a work related hand injury about a year ago (thankfully my right hand), I have to play with a pick! lol
-
I know. Extra weight as well. I'm going to persevere with it for the time being though, because switching basses mid-set is just confusing me.

Have you seen the Ibanez EHBs? They are definitely on my watch list. About 3.3kg for a 5 string, I believe.
-
After two weeks of trying to play the 5 string, this has only just started to occur to me. And even though it looks like I'm playing a massive bass, it seems there's less stretch on my little hand if I play above the 5th fret on that B string...

I like Lee Sklar. 😊
