1. Thanks, guys. I'll keep at it.
2. Having played through it a couple more times, with a pick, yes - I can see I'm just going to have to practise. I've actually gone back to the Rocksmith version to slow it all down, just to try to get a better feeling for the rhythm and technique. This won't help me memorise the song, but I can do that once I can play it.
3. Does this work for the Reef song: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1O44mgMG4LXB-_lbBrm947KMKdrNNNrX-/view?usp=sharing It's come straight from Rocksmith, so ignore the shift in tempo - that's where it's just been dragged to fit the mp3. The notes shouldn't be too far off though.
4. Ok, since I failed to give an introduction when I first joined - just a short one... I've been playing bass just over 4 years, mostly (ok, all) on Rocksmith, but joined a band about six weeks ago. And I'm still in a band... and they want me to learn Ace of Spades. Whilst the learning is hard for me (too used to being spoon fed), it's not the learning that's the problem with this one - I just can't play it. I can't get the strumming rhythm right. I appreciate Lemmy played it with a pick, and whilst I can use a pick, and do alternate picking quite well, and quickly, I'm struggling with the "down, down, up, whatever" strumming pattern. What's the best way to improve this? I'm currently playing it with a dodgy 3 finger style on single notes that changes to a "pretend I'm holding a pick" strum when I have to play power chords. Strangely enough, I can kind of strum "down, down, up, whatever" when I'm not holding a pick... Can anyone give me some pointers? TIA Confused, Wigan.
5. Hotel California. After four years, I can almost play it.
6. You have a PM. Hope I'm not too late...
7. I just bought a lovely Vantage bass off Richard. I sent him all my money by BACS, and he didn't run off with it! What more can I say? He even posted the bass straight away. Thanks, Richard!
8. My short scale D'Addario flats do have blue silk, very similar to La Bellas. As you know, I only took them off one bass last night...
9.
Explain PLEK'D for those who don't know what it is.... (ok me then )
Google is your friend.
10. I've been thinking about this all day. Since I've already bought a bass this month (or was it last?), please tell me it weighs a ton and it has a big fat neck?
11.
Sorry to derail but I read the title to the tune of Sgt Peppers
Me too.
12. Of all the >£1000 basses on here, that's the best looking one I've seen. But it's way beyond my talent range at the moment.
13.
No, think they still knock about the Torquay pub scene.
Yeah, I think time is running out for them.
14. Interesting. I've just found my scales and weighed some of my basses - all values given include straps, and some of my straps are better/heavier than others, but: Peavey Millenium AC BXP - 4.0 kg (nylon strap) Yamaha RBX 170 - 3.9 kg (padded leather strap) Yamaha TRBX 504 - 3.8 kg (neoprene and suede strap) Yamaha RBX A2 (that one that's marketed as a really light bass...) - 3.5 kg (nylon strap) Nanyo SB321 - 3.5 kg (nylon strap)
15. Some more photos (I hope you can access them): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B49Qq-EFnmrKeW9YOFEyN1IyV0E?usp=sharing Sorry about the poor lighting and sh*tty Samsung phone photos - I miss my Nokia!
16. Yours is absolutely stunning. I'd be afraid to use one that looks that good. The SB321MF would be a fretless 4. My understanding is that yours (and mine) is a 320 series, but model SB321, i.e. fretted 4 string. I'm only going off the model nos. at the bottom of the '96 catalogue, so could well be wrong. Unfortunately my gold plate is flaking in places, due to underlying corrosion. I'll get more detailed photos up a little later.
17. It's a 95, model SB321 SGR (see through green), if I'm not mistaken. http://www.basscentre.com/user/Bass%20Collection/Bass%20Collection%20Nanyo%20Catalogue/Bass%20Collection%20Japan%2095%20Catalogue%2004.jpg I played it all day yesterday, so there's every chance it may replace my Yamaha TRB504 as my favourite. I'm sure it's even lighter than the Yamaha. The only problem is that the gold hardware is tarnished so I'm thinking of buying a re-plating kit off ebay. I do like to dabble and I'm sure I could use the kit for other things as well...
18. After what turned out to be a long trip to Leicester, yesterday, I finally got one! https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B49Qq-EFnmrKTzl2VzZKQ0NTSUE/view
19. So who bought it? I saw it late, but did bid on it, even though I'm in contact with another seller... you can't have too many Nanyos, can you?
20. Yes, I bought some more strings - no problems at all with the transaction. I transferred the money straight into his back account, and he sent them anyway... I doubt he'd get very far on £10...
21.
I'm not convinced that it is a 310 - it could quite easily be a 100 series with a changed bridge - I don't remember any of mine having "Gotoh" written on the bridge. I have a fretless 100 series - plays great.
I missed out on your 310. Should I buy your purple one instead? I am looking for something a little more special, though - I don't really like purple.
22.
Unusual serial number. I thought they were all 6 digits with the first 2 digits indicating the year of manufacture. My 3 all are. Also it looks like it has been modded as there are 2 additional screws on the control cavity cover.
I've seen screws in the same positions on others I've been interested in. I'm with you on the serial no. though. It is odd.
