NBD: In the spirit to lose my head!
SuperSeagull replied to Cat Burrito's topic in General Discussion
There is a B2A for sale locally to me for £350. I've had one before, I don't need another one but I'm very tempted just because they are a very good bass in a very small package. -
Just caught a little of a band new to me called Divorce playing in that little off stage set the BBC have. Excellent musicians and a great female lead vocalist playing what looked like a short scale Rickenfaker. Nice.

This Trace Elliot ELF never ceases to amaze me!!!!
SuperSeagull replied to Mike Bungo's topic in Amps and Cabs
Used mine on Sunday with the two 1x10 matching cabs that I acquired from @fleabag Outdoors, drums, guitar, vox, keys and, a surprise late addition of a harp player with (loud) amp. Kept up easily and sounded super with my Flea Jazz. All easily packed on the back seat of my 62 year old Morris 1100 which gets to take me to gigs when the weather is nice and the venue is local. Love it. -
Fender Precision Lyte (MIJ) - is there a passive version?
SuperSeagull replied to Marc S's topic in Repairs and Technical
Understand and a good layout. Considered the same but I wanted (possibly irrationally!) to use all four knobs.- 10 replies

Fender Precision Lyte (MIJ) - is there a passive version?
SuperSeagull replied to Marc S's topic in Repairs and Technical
I have the exact same bass also in Frost Red and had it converted to passive a few years ago when the pre amp failed. I much prefer it in a passive format, sounds more like a Fender. I went with vol per pickup and tone per pickup to use all 4 knobs.- 10 replies

By way of an update, over halfway through treatment and can see the finishing line albeit still a bit distant. But a good friend has asked me to join him and an excellent drummer to do a 45 mins set at a BBQ. A perfect opportunity to play again, not too long a set, outdoors to help protect my immune system and it's mainly country so not too taxing (famous last words!).
-
Another good idea, thank you. I spent a bit of time yesterday working on a short solo version of a song (not an original) that I've been playing about with for a while. Therapeutic.
-
Yeah, problem was they rehearse once a week and gig once or twice a month. Even if they were prepared to accommodate me, I couldn't do it at the moment. Too fatigued. Walking good and a helpful reminder to do it! Thanks.

That's really kind. I'm going to look at what I've got first and see how it goes. But much appreciated 👍

That's a great idea. I used to read when I played piano as a kid half a century ago. I so regret not keeping my reading up when I switched to bass.

Looking for some advice from you good folk. As some of you might remember I’ve had to step back quite suddenly from playing with my band to concentrate on beating my pesky non Hodgkin’s lymphoma via a 6 month course of chemotherapy. I’m now 2 sessions of chemo in and have bad days, ok days but plenty of good days between treatments. I’ve kept my musical genes busy looking after a PA and video screen install at my church and then sorting out the myriad bits of fettling that follow on from that - learnt loads. But I’m struggling to find the motivation to play. It’s really a perfect opportunity to improve my playing, I’ve time, I can’t mix and mingle with folk as much I used to as my immune system is shot and I’ve a music room full of lovely gear. But I just can’t work out how to approach it. When in bands it was easy, new songs to learn, old ones to get better at - playing all the time. I’ve old scale books, some Norm Stockton DVDs, an online course I subscribed to a while back but………any ideas please? Perhaps any tracks that would be a good workout to get my head around? Thanks. And love and strength to anyone going through a difficult time with their health.

Another fan of Badlands here, always interesting stock and Ed is a great tech.
-
The question was for Nathan, funny about Rhino though (also another lovely guy).
-
As a huge Quo fan I can't believe I didn't know that - and it was such a small audience as well. I asked him of all his shows was there one that stood out and he said playing for the Obama inauguration - always remember that.

As a local I'm really sad to hear this news. I was only chatting with them a couple of weeks ago about buying some pa gear online but being able to return to the store if I needed to - they couldn't have been more helpful. It's also where I saw Nathan East do a workshop some years back - that will live long in the memory. Hope they find a way to resolve whatever the issues are - North Laine won't be the same without the big yellow of GAK.

I've just ordered a cover for an A&H mixer from them. Due to arrive today and about £15 cheaper than elsewhere.
-
Nice. The A&H apps inc one which is highly simplified and locked to a few basic functions but will look at that app as well.
-
Understand - but we've running a band in there for three years with a dreadful PA so we will see. Options to do much more are limited. Fortunately I am a very quiet bassist 🙂
-
It is a bit! But carpet under drums. And that suspended wooden ceiling which is slatted works wonders. Plus new soft chairs going in to replace the wooden ones.
-
Yes, just noticed that. Speakers are in front of the lecturn and all of the platform area. I think I us d a wide angle setting on my phone so it makes it look a bit weird!
-
Yes, next to where the rack will go. Mixer can be run from band area or at the back. Expect some novice users to be using the basic iPad app and not touching the mixer.
-
Progress so far. Old audio gear removed, all three screens up, speakers up, network cabling run through the ceiling, cabling for screens going up, rack built.
-
Thanks - its been a lonely process making these decisions but I think I've got the right balance between quality, cost and making good use of an install company to do all the heavy lifting (literally!), initial set up etc. Its a five day job to do the install which makes me even more grateful I didn't go down the DIY route. Now I really have to get my head around running the system, eq, ringing the monitors etc etc but helpfully the majority of services until Easter don't have live music so its a gentle intro before we start using it with a band.
-
A further update for those who kindly gave me advice on this. After lots of research, chatting to install companies, other churches and a generous donation from a member of the church who recently passed, I settled on using a local company TSPro who have done loads of church installs and both my boys used to work for on Saturdays back when they were (much!) younger. Going in this week is a system based around an A&H Qu16 desk, A&H stage box, EV speakers, Sennheiser wireless mics plus a three screen video system with wireless streaming. I’m adding some gear I was able to source more cheaply from Thomann - e835 mics, K&M stands, Alto powered monitors and a few other bits and pieces. Ready for a try out next Sunday, two days before I start my first round of chemo so hopefully all works well if I’m not able to be around quite as much. Hugely impressed by what I’ve seen of the Qu16 so far - easy to set and recall scenes, run via an iPad - lots for me to learn. We’ve also been able to afford (thanks to the bequest) to replace all the old wooden chairs with fabric padded ones which I think will help with the acoustics.

Harley Benton Block-800B vs bugera Veyron 1001M
SuperSeagull replied to KinkMaster's topic in Amps and Cabs
I actually quite like the pre amp on mine and it's probably only a bit of brand snobbery (and the drive control) that has me keeping the sansamp in front. And as someone who has never got on with a compressor it's the least offensive one I've come across.
