Following the cliche: Precision 62, Sunburst, Tort, Rosewood
SuperSeagull replied to SumOne's topic in Bass Guitars
A cliche it maybe but here is mine. ‘62 RI CIJ 1999-2002, unable to be more specific with the serial number. Purchased in 2008 from Far Eastern Guitars for £465. Not sure if it is the US or standard model and in any case I’ve put a SD Quarter Pounder in. Pure P bass, always fancied a year of birth P bass but an American one was out of budget! -
Great description! I have an S2 delivered in July 2020.

We did a pub gig in Crawley last night. Packed, two and half hour set so I am feeling all of my 60 years today. Had my Status back for this from the mothership in Colchester fixed and set up beautifully by Rob - have enjoyed playing my Flea Jazz while it’s been away but it’s not my Status! We did Don’t You forget About Me for the first time - went down a storm but anyone else have a drummer who needs the bass player to count him in on some songs otherwise he rattles off so quickly I just can’t get the gallopy bit in the breakdown.
-
Second the idea of a Squier or Jap one - no question there is something about a P bass but it doesn’t necessarily have to be one made in the US.

The very best to you.

I haven’t been brave enough to use mine with a full band yet but it has more than held it’s own in a smaller set up, I must give it a go. They are extraordinary pieces of kit!

This is a shockingly unhelpful development. I’ve been battling with myself about the need to buy a Dingwall for a while and the head has been winning vs the heart. This could be a game changing moment.

Founder, owner, designer, creator of Status basses. Along with his wife Dawn, legends of the bass world IMHO.

I did an outdoor unrehearsed 45 minute set last night with a guitarist I’ve done a lot with in the past. His son was due to play drums but was delayed at work so we roped a guy we knew who was there to play for the first few songs. He’s a talented keys player and did ok on drums but…..what creased me up was, as his son arrived, the guitarist announced “Thanks to Pete Best, but Ringo has arrived”. Classic. And I played my CIJ 62RI P bass for the first time in a while - there is something about a P bass.

I’ll be using this tomorrow although the Status is back at the mothership in Colchester getting some tlc so will be paired with a Flea jazz. -
Played this afternoon at a pub in Crawley. Outside, full beer garden, second set went down particularly well presumably because the audience had drunk more beer by them. We had a dep drummer who did well and because my Status is away at the mothership being tended to by Rob and Dawn I played my Flea Jazz - not bad at all. Funniest moment was when we were packing down and a very drunk young lad asked why we didn’t play any Status Quo but we did play some Oasis. Vocalist replied we didn’t play any Oasis, yes you did, no we didn’t. Young lad then said yes you did, Another Brick in the Wall - that will forever now be an Oasis song in our band 😂

Stressful! I bought a TE Elf as a backup for precisely this sort of eventuality (plus it sounds good for smaller gigs) Sits in my gig bag in case my Markbass decides to call it a day with no warning.

Same here. I use this when using the CMD 1x12 on its own, but the best stand I find is another 1x12!

I have a 62 reissue made between 1999 and 2002, a P serial number. Chunky neck, classic P bass sound, reverse tuners. Enjoy yours.

This Trace Elliot ELF never ceases to amaze me!!!!

Used mine for the first time in anger today. I was very impressed. -
Just announced that following Robs cancer diagnosis and operation last year they are no longer going to be producing new basses. A very sensible decision for Rob and Dawn but a great loss to industry.

Played a pub in Horsham on Saturday that we did last year as part of a charity day. As a result we were booked for a paying gig on the day of the landlords birthday. Did the full two and half hour set. A few minor hiccups along the way but nobody but us seemed to notice and the landlord is keen to have us back. Sometimes it is worth doing the freebies with an eye to a paying gig. Less happily there is Covid in our house and I feel it is only a matter of time.

Interested to read of so many experiences with poor vocalists, under rehearsed musicians etc. Our Worship Director sets a high standard, he makes his living from working in the church and with other musicians. So you don’t get on team unless you meet a certain standard and he won’t hold back from pointing out “issues” in anybodys playing or singing. But he does that in a way which is encouraging and positive, everyone ends up a better player from working with him inc me. That extends to the tech team. He works very closely with younger musicians to develop them. I guess we are fortunate but it’s probably also why musicians are drawn to our church.

Liked everything about my fretless jazz except the weight. Way too heavy to consider gigging with so it's gone to another owner now. I might be tempted by a Hofner style fretless though.

Need a fill in cab.... lightweight, pub giggable 2x10 or 1x12

That’s Hartke 2x10 for £75 in Haywards Heath looks good and the seller is friends with a couple of people I know so that may (or may not!) be helpful. -

Shame. Had an Ashdown 1x12 ABM Neo that would have done the job but just sold it - and just down the road in Burgess Hill. -
I'm on my second. The first a Rhino Edwards Charger, this one is a S2 built for me a couple of years ago.

Another vote for the Shure. The only time I had an issue with it was when I tried to save some space on the pedalboard and used the Diago power supply which does the rest of the board, it’s lower voltage and the plug wouldn’t seat properly so had to revert to the original one. It’s a lovely bit of kit.
