  1. I know, I know , Obvious but I was listening to this track but Flotsam and Jetsam with Newsted on the bass and ok the bass could be a touch louder (but still much more prominent than he was mixed through most of his career with Metallica) but the bass playing is fantastic, great playing and tone. His playing never sounded as good with Metallica which really makes me realise how much they were stifling him creatively, oddly he never seems to be mentioned in the same breath Frank Bello or David Ellefson but he is skilled, without a doubt [Youtube]
  2. I would use all 4 neo magnets otherwise you are not really exploiying the extra strength of the neo magnets, only caution i would give is to make sure the neo magnets are the right way round, if they are you should feel them trying to pull themselves towards the polepieces, if you have them the wrong way round they will try and push away from the pole pieces, very important you put/glue/stick them on the right way round as forcing them the wrong way round can demagnetise the pickups pole pieces
  3. I am having a custom set of steels made by them so this is encouraging to hear
  4. Thanks, have decided I'm gonna wait till I get paid and will get a repair person to have a look
  5. Also worth stating I tried the wiring with just one pickup which was wired up to the solderless volume pot (disconnected the other volume pot) and it gave me a very bright tone on full volume and turned down it didnt cut the volume so much as act as if I had just turned down a tone control
  6. When I switched to Rotosound steel strings they did feel really rough at first and my fingers felt like they were gonna fall off but after about a week I was used to them and they don't feel rough at all now
  7. Thanks for the offer, sadly im not near there though for the price of a train ticket I may well consider it I seem to have hit a bit of an odd speedbump , I have wired up the bridge pickup and experiencing some very odd pickup interactions , hoping someone can help 1) Both volumes all the way off - I have volume from the bridge pickup even though the volume is rolled off 2) Bridge rolled off P pickup volume turned up - Very bright tone that sounds suspiciously like a soloed bridge pickup, tapping the polepieces of both pickups with a screwdriver gives a sound but the sound from tapping the bridge pickup with a screwdriver sounds louder both pickups on full sounds like I would expect it to sound, if I disconnect the bridge pickup the P pickup works absolutely fine, im baffled, any ideas?
  8. Thanks, I now have a solderless output Jack so I will use new wires for that, with the pickup wires I will add some new wires to the existing and twist them together with the new wires and use electrical tape to secure the connections
  9. Thanks for the replies One more possibly stupid question, many of the wires in the control panel are a little on the short side, in particular the wires from the output Jack to the volume, the bridge ground wire and the pickup wires for the bridge pickup. I have some white cloth covered wire, can I replace/lengthen the above wires with this wire or does it have to be a particular type of wire? I assume the colours on the original wiring are just there for ease of use and there is nothing unique about the wires used ? Thanks
  10. Thanks for the replies, I am wiring with 2 volumes no tone control , I have seen diagrams were the ground wire that runs under the bridge is connected from the back of the tone pot (would be volume in my case) and diagrams were it is connected to the output jack, does it matter which one the bridge ground wire is attached to?
  11. Ok so I have fiddled about a bit and I now have sound , only thing is I have only 2 ground connectors and I need a ground for the output jack, a ground for the bridge pickup (once connected) and a ground for the ground wire that runs under the bridge , confused!!! help!!
  12. Thanks for the reply , I have tried to connect up the pot and at the moment I need to add some wire to the J pickup to make it reach but have connected up the pot anyhow so that once I have sorted this I can wire it up so at the moment I have just the P pickup conected, but no output at all, nothing!!!! Anyone know what I have done wrong? Sorry for poor quality image, P pickup already connected to an exisiting pot that was workign with no issues previously, I wondered if the issue was the way the blue wires are extended(wires attached to them and secured with electrical tape) but I tried connecting the blue wires together to completely bypass the solderless pot and it gave me output so the issue must be with the way I have wired the 2nd pot Another thing I have noticed is that if the 2 connectors are the ground connectors there does not seem to be enough of them as the J pickup ground wire will need a connector, as will the output jack ground wire as will the wire that grounds to the bridge , can I use the same connection point for 2 grounds? help!!!! am so confused thank you
  13. Got a solderless pot for a bass I want to convert from 2 volumes 1 tone to 2 volumes , didn't come with any instructions, it has 5 connection points , I am assuming the 3 on 1 side take the place of the normal 3 lugs on the back of a pot and the 2 take the place of where you would solder the ground wire(s) to the back of the pot? Help!!

Trust me I won't be complaining if/when it snows, you can always put more layers on if it's cold but if it's 30 + degrees there's not much you can do about that

  15. Not much to add but looking at Seymour Duncans pickup comparison chart it seems the low resistance seems to be the norm for a MM style pickup, their 4 string MM pickups are 2.6k and 4.18k resistance, does seem a bit barmy to pair it with such a hot P pickup though
  16. Hi all I have played mostly PJ basses for as long as I can remember, im more of a p bass guy than J bass and there seems to be a tonne of PJ basses. One thing I have always found is that regardless of what PJ pickups are on PJ basses the bridge J pickup on every PJ bass I have tried is always kind of (relatively) thin sounding with very little bass response, I have fairly hot pickups but I still find this to be the case. Was wondering how much of this is down to pickup location and how much is down to the bridge pickup being a J rather than for example a humbucker, would the bridge pickup still sound thin if it was for example a musicman type humbucker? Another option would be too have a J pcikup wound super hot like mudbucker hot but then you would obviously lose the treble response and upper mids , thoughts?
  17. [youtube] And if you want some real hilarity look up Manowar on youtube and take a listen to some of those lyrics ..pure cheese

  25. Inspired by some truly hilarious music videos I have seen on Youtube I thought there should be a thread for unintentionally hilarious music videos, I will start this off, I think the 2nd one may have been intentional but there is no excuse for the 1st and the 3rd , I love the way Paul Stanley seems to be wearing his mothers boots and the way Gene Simmons looks like a creepy uncle in the Kiss video [Youtube] ] [Youtube] [Youtube] ]
