  1. Thanks, if the neck angle is being changed slightly will I need to do a truss rod adjsutment afterward?
  2. Thank you, so at the butt end of the neck? How much of the neck pocket should the shim take up? Why only the bridge end and not the full pocket? Sorry for silly questions
  3. Ok, so I have a newly discovered problem with these pickups They sound amazing...but due to the honking great big magnets I cannot get them low enough, when I fret the E string at the last fret the distance from the pickup pole to the bottom of the E string is only 2mm and I dont have particularly low action, is set at around Fender spec , im quite keen on upper register playing so this could be somewhat problematic. What to do? Is there an easy fix I can try before I decide whether to move these on? Assuming I can't sort this issue this leaves Wilkinson WMPB (their ceramic pickup) and Kent Armstrong hot ceramic pickup as possible contenders, anyone have any input on these?
  4. How do you record sound clips, is it as simple as di box into pc mic input?
  5. If it has been setup and still has fret buzz then it probably needs a fret dress which is not uncommon, if you don't want to do this you can of course raise the bridge saddles but obviously this last result in an action higher than your preference
  6. Ok, got the PBXN fitted , sounds good, only one problem Gonna have to either file the pickguard to fit or but some other pickup covers , I love the logos on them so would be a shame to have to swap the covers out, have left the pickguard off for the time being
  7. Thanks, my long term plan is to swap out the 250k volumes for 500k and take out the tone control completely
  8. Thanks, strange that they would recommend that, kind of like how Seymour Duncan recommend 250k pots for the Quarter pounder pickup
  9. Ok ordered the electrical tape just got to wait for it to arrive now. The instructions that come with the pickups recommend a 0.1 MFD Capacitor , any idea what this would do? Im gonna stick with whatever capacitor is currently in my bass but would be good to know
  10. Thanks guys, I have an Spb-1 that needs some wires soldering to it going spare for anyone who doesn't mind the extra bit of work, just asking the cost to send it
  11. I never thought of that, the pvc electrical tape? thank you,I will give that a try
  12. Sadly I'm not gonna find out for a while, it seems my soldering skills are rubbish so I will get someone skilled to do it but obviously with the country in lockdown at the moment it could be a while.
  13. Have ordered the PBXN, the replies here have me quite excited to try them, I tend to favour quite a gritty bright overdriven tone so I think these seem to be a good match
  14. Awesome, thanks for the suggestion, I will get an order in for these, how is the character of these, are they bright, dark, middy?
  15. Hi All Of all times when a pickup could have gone bad my P pickup in my bass has gone bad now (to be more precise one of the wires has come away from the pickup) anyway as I have always found the P pickup in the bass to be way too polite I was thinking of swapping it out, looking at P pickups and a SD Quarter pound is 80 quid Is there anthing similarly rude and aggressive sounding for a bit less wonga ? thanks
  16. i remember a gig where I was offered a rider , I was a bit hacked off to find out upon arriving at the venue that the venue's definition of a rider was one beer
  17. Thanks for the replies, sometimes it is difficult to see things clearly when you are directly involved so this has been very useful. I have agreed to stay until the end of January and after that date if they need a dep bass player and I have no conflicting arrangements I am happy to dep for them , I think that is fair
  18. Hi Just quite the band I was playing in today, I had been holding out as I knew we had a gig booked so have now quit now that the gig has passed, I have tried to leave the band in the most amicable way that I can. Was just wondering what the standard practice/expectation is for leaving a band assuming you left on relatively good terms, do you just quit and move on and say no can do? do you offer to do a couple of gigs/rehearsals till the band has found a replacement? I have been asked by the band I just quit if I would dep for them and I have said I can until they find a replacement but I have given some terms for doing so, they have said they will think them over for the moment, thanks
  19. If you haven't already try using the bass slider in the On position, pure gut rumbling fat bass tone
  20. I always keep the low mids flat and boost the high mids a bit, I always find boosting the low mids on the rumble muddies the sound a bit, obviously though the bass you use will have a big impact on this
  21. The contemporary actually uses the same pickups as the German made Hofners although it is as you point out semi hollow rather than fully hollow
  22. It definitely has potential to but the way I set my strap I set it so that the headstock points upward and this seems to remedy it somewhat
