Love these threads. Recommend me a string! Every string under sun is suggested. I’ll just use Rotos. I have pretty much tried every round, flat and pressure wound string out there... yet my advice is constantly ignored!

What's the point of having a valve head for live use unless you mic it? Recording, yes - I get it. I love them for that. But live? Every time the sound guy goes for a DI signal. Does anyone here mic their cab for every gig?

Isn't the UD based on the OCD circuit?

From what I've seen, the UD has bass loss.

So that or save £300 and buy a brand new US Stingray... Sorry Flea.

I have a Bearfoot Blueberry has my always on OD pedal for grit - would it be pointless buying a Mojomojo?

I have tried Super Brights as well and didn't dig them. They're not as bright as you think and their 'core' sound faded quite quickly IME. They are also really low tension for their gauge. I think Sunbeams are similar-ish. Sunbeams are definitely more brighter out the packet. Pure Blues to me are like Sunbeams but not quite as bright fresh on - they do retain their sound very well though from my 18 months using them but they have really nice mids that the Sunbeams or Super Brights can't match IMO. They are a nice tension as well, not as low as the Dunlops but still very playable.

Just buy Rotos or Ernie Balls if you want a 'cheap' decent string.

I have the Road To Ruin remaster - sounds pretty good to my ears.

Unless they ask you to plug into the house DI box first to get 'a good clean sound'! That's why my MXR M80 DI is so handy - really good clean DI with EQ that actually makes a difference. I normally plug into that and get the sound man to use that DI instead.

Have you done a full set-up since you changed strings? I.e. truss rod, saddle heights, intonation etc?

Another +1. I would say the 50-110 gauge at least.

DR Fat Beams 40-95. Before I used Pure Blues, I used these and cut through extremely well in live situations.

DR Pure Blues. They are the string you're describing. You won't regret it - I've been using nothing but for the last 2 years.
