1. Do quiet rehearsal bands play quietly at gigs too? No reason to knock someone else's rehearsal style. My band is better than your band etc.
2.
Unless you've got a room full of people at your rehearsals and you play in the same size room I wouldn't have thought it would sound the same as a gig
Tiny with no one there? Yep!
3. We always practice at gig levels so we're more used to how it will be on the night. A 300w bass amp really should be the minimum for a rehearsal room.
4. The new Timmy C of setups!
5. To be fair, no matter what I've bought, wherever and whom it was from (secondhand), it's always had a problem that wasn't listed in the description. Not a major problem but one that irks you still. E.g. E string saddle cannot be raised or lowered, strap pins are permanently loose, chipping of the wood on the underside of the bass.
6.
Cool. Got a link?
ebay.co.uk !
7. DR Sunbeams for me. I import them from the States and it's £19 a set total. No custom charges too.
8. I have a passive Sadowsky and it's the one bass I will never sell (and my only one!). I have played Fenders which have been hit and miss, regardless of the year. Sandbergs have always impressed me when I have played them.
9. They have slightly different coloured ball ends. I think the 7250s have more of a turquoise green?
10.
the very first guy that walks up to ask you something, kick him in the mouth. Problem solved. I hate the punter that comes up to you the second your set is finished to talk bass. "I have a Fender too, mine is.." why do they think I give a damn about what they have? But I always talk to them coz, well, at least SOMEONE is talking to me hehe
I like talking with punters about bass during downtime - especially if they actually have knowledge of the subject!
11. Wow! Great demo with a lot of cool features. I have the Bass Big Muff and OD Glove and they're great pedals - I have a MXR M80 DI but always wished the distortion section was better. Hmm...
12. Just ignore them. I've dealt with it in the past and all they want is attention off other people.
13.
Where is that from? I have had a look and could only find them from £49 up, £30 seems a bargain.
I did buy mine about 3 years ago mind!
14. Korg Pitchblack is a steal at £30.
15.
Not on the same league but I wouldn't mind Tim Commerford's Stingray bitsa with the badass bridge, an iconic sound from an iconic album.
Flea's Wal from Blood Sugar for me.
16. Did you ask him if he could play chords and not do solos?
17. DR Sunbeams for their smoothness and longevity. Roto RB40s for their punchyness and 'Roto' sound.
18. Where is the best place to pick up a Blueberry (Bearfoot version) ?
19.
How do you know they were exaggerated - were you there at the time ? Just because those negative experiences don't tally with your positive one, doesn't mean anyone is making it sound worse than it is You can get good and bad in dealing with ANY business in life, not just music shops. That's life
Sorry if you are upset - I can only state my experiences and I've had nothing but positive one's every time I have step foot in the shop.
Could that be because those brands are everywhere, so they would only be competing on price? I think there business model is good. Stock specialist equipment for a market you know well and do it properly. Its difficult to be all things to all bassists,so they are going for the high end where people know what they are looking for but dont always know in what gear they will find it.
I was not 'dissing' Bass Direct by saying they must stock these items - just making other users aware that they won't find them at the shop.
20. The Mars Volta - first two albums are incredible.
21. Grolsch straplocks - comes with a free beer too.
