If you could go back in time to one gig, which one?
JBP replied to T-Bay's topic in General Discussion
For me it would be Rush at Wembley Arena on the Hold Your Fire Tour, with Primus as support... my own personal bass heaven -
He seems to have become a bit of a Darkglass fan since then.

Don't get me wrong, I love The Who, but I'm pretty sure that the Foo Fighters alone out sell them these days. As ever though I could be wrong...

The same here I've only bought one album that was actually released this year 'War Is Over' by the Von Hertzen Brothers, bloody great.
-
Personally I think that is a great looking bass, prefer this to the white finish.

Its a buyers market without question, I picked up a 2009 Thumb BO4 for £650 earlier this year with flight case and all the original gubbins, user kit, even a spare nut and control nobs. The thing had hardly been played and even still had the original strings it was shipped with, I only changed them myself a few weeks back. Its been my main bass for most of this year, it has a lovely slim neck profile the same as my old 99 Corvette (in my sig). I liked it so much I bought an 2010 Thumb NT4 but have since moved that on, I preferred the punchier sound of the BO, still an amazing bass though. A Corvette $$ is next on my shopping list, I had one a couple of years ago but it had the fat 'baseball bat' neck and i just didn't get on with it, so i am hunting for a thinner one at the moment. But if you hunt around there are some amazing bargains on the second hand market at the moment.

Who would you - most have enjoyed playing bass with?
JBP replied to KiOgon's topic in General Discussion
I wold have to second that, especially playing with Bonham. A close second would be Neil Peart. -

Bowie... not much else to say -
True enough, but the Beatles will never go away, they are part of music History now, love em or hate em.

Players that don't warrant a signature bass

That pretty much sums it up. -

I think it falls into two groups, the Adam Clayton's and Gene Simmons of this world who will put a company's product in front of a large number of people. The other group are genuinely great musicians who may have a much smaller audience but company's want them to seen playing there instruments. I suppose the sweet spot is someone like Robert Trujillo, who has the talent and the audience. -
Not so groovy but one of my old faves all the same, classic May

Doesn't the fact that this discussion is taking place 50 odd years down the road sorta prove a point?

Just listen to what you enjoy, there is no age limit on music, though it is always good to try new things. I tend to find I like bits of all different types of music, if its CM, Jazz, Death Metal or whatever I just take what I like away from it... but maybe I'm just not old enough yet, though 50 is a lot closer than I would like it to be. When I was at Uni, I did a joint Music/Popular Music degree. With the classical side of it I was exposed to everything from Medieval Lute TAB, to Schoenberg, and everything between. I think I learned a lot from it from a theoretical point of view but about as close as i get to listening to any of that stuff these days is film scores and Nightwish.

It all depends what you want it to do. Iv'e been using the MXR M87 for a couple of years now, does what it says on the tin and is very transparent having little effect on your overall tone, but that may not be what you are looking for. There are many many good options around at the moment.

Many moons ago the band i was in played a Maiden medaly, I had to play the Trooper followed by Run To the Hills, it was always two fingers for the Trooper and three for Run to the Hills, or risk some serious RSI
