Modes are scales. For instance, the Phrygian mode is merely the major scale, starting on the major 3rd.

IIRC modes inform what scale can be played over certain chords in the key, this may be erroneous. That said, the only times I’ve been aware of playing particular modes are using the Mixolydian for the dominant 7th and the Phrygian when playing Chick Corea’s Spain or the outro to Haitian Divorce, where it moves between E and F root notes.

Maybe, but I won’t do anything about it. It seems that last year’s abstinence challenge has broken me, other than the roller bridge I bought (which is fantastic BTW, should have done it ages ago, Bigsby tuning stability to kill for), I just can’t be bothered at the moment. This sucks .

I go for the strap at sitting height. However, I know that my posture is different when standing, which means the strap length is slightly different. Fortunately, this doesn’t give me any issues. Therefore, set the strap for being comfortable when standing and if everything else stays comfortable, that’s your strap length.

The descant recorder is a horrible sounding thing when played badly, the lower pitched recorders are far more pleasant. I’ve always wondered why they have children play the descant or the violin, both sound excruciating in their hands. No wonder so many quit, as did I.

I know that shop well, although I’ve never been in it. As to Croydon being Shakespeare’s place of birth, I was unaware that the town that regularly features high up in lists of shit towns, was/is an outpost of Stratford-upon-Avon 🤔. I suspect they were referring to its ambience, rather than its geographical location. Croydon does reasonably well for musical instrument outlets, having the above and the town somewhat bracketed by Rock Bottom (massive misnomer) and Martin Phelp’s. It also the home to Feline Guitars.
