  1. Another vote for a pedal, an octaver or chorus would be my shout.
  2. Another entertaining video, Sir. 👏👏👏 For complete transparency - “Er, hello. I’m, er, Ezbass and I, er, like prog rock,” (shuffles away shamefacedly, whilst humming something in 7/4).
  3. It is. I’ve worked with the drummer and backing singers.
  4. I have chums who play in Cloudbusting, they put on quite a show.
  5. True that. If I had been designing that bass, I think that would’ve set the pickup back a bit so that it’s not in the P or J neck p/up ‘sweet spot’, more towards the MM position. If you’re going for different, go different. Also, I’m intrigued with the recent fascination for gold foils, which has filtered across from the skinny stringed market. They’re not the most powerful of pickups and plainly have some build issues. It does appear to be more of a marketing exercise that one based in tonal superiority. As ever, YMMV.
  6. Nik Kershaw in May. Best thing is that it’s a 10 minute walk from my front door.
  7. Yeah it’s super easy, but I regard that as a bad thing. You can get stick on rubber thingies that, once attached, can indicate where the body begins on a proper DB and I think I might get a couple so that if I’m called on to play a DB, I won’t have upper register reach shock. TBH I try and play everything in the first 5 positions and don’t stray too far south at all.
  8. I dropped my EUB so that the nut is around my eye level (like Danny), as opposed to forehead height that beginner’s guides seem to favour. Ooh, that’s better, feels more comfy and I seem to play more in tune too. Result!
  9. Thanks for that. I’ve had a quick look at the 2 videos from ‘88 and Danny has his bass height very low compared to what I’ve seen as the recommended height (I’m new to upright and recently acquired my first EUB), I might give a lower setting a go (good enough for DT and all that).
  10. I suspect that this would be the case. As a much younger man, I was a regular church goer (including gospel bearer, acolyte & crucifer), but I haven’t set foot in one other than for christenings, weddings and funerals for many a year. I became disenchanted with the hypocrisy of many of the parishioners once outside of a service. This seems to somewhat amplified when it comes to church bands from what I’ve read in these pages.
  11. Yep, my brain is sniggering in the back row too.
  12. Harsh? You should hear the voices in my head when I read about those who expect everyone to follow them in a group, that’s not playing in a group for me, that’s being a diva. I’m not sure his somewhat selfish approach has anything to do with group worship. I’ll leave it there as the voices in my head are grabbing the flaming torches and pitchforks .
  13. Shorthand for can’t be bothered to learn and thinks himself above the rest. What a tosspot.
  14. This is one of those passings that has genuinely shocked me. Absolutely gutted! He wasn’t a young man, but the way he played and carried himself was that so a much younger man. Wallington’s most famous son (I used to live around the corner from where he grew up and played his first gig) and a true individual voice on the guitar. RIP, Jeff, your gig at the Hammersmith in ‘80 stills stands as one of my best ever live experiences.
