  1. Love the video, you have set a new standard in NBD presentation.
  2. I’m not guessing, could be anything as I’m fairly sure there isn’t a bass out there that doesn’t have haters on BC. However, why is it always the way that once you digest yourself of a particular type of instrument completely, that a band comes along that requires exactly that type of instrument? When I first quit guitar to play bass pretty much exclusively (I still has an acoustic guitar) a band came along that required a guitarist and they asked me. Just like that, I was pulled back into the skinny string vortex. Did the band last long? No, of course it didn’t, but it was too late by then and it would be another 10 years before I returned to the path of righteousness.
  3. It was a bleak time and so over hyped at the time. Hopefully, this is just a case of the music media stoking a fire because of a ‘slow news day’.
  4. UFO have a place in my musical education, sort of. I was first inspired to play the 6 string thing by the son of my parents’ friends. He had long hair and played an Eko Ranger 6 and I thought it and he were the coolest things I’d seen or heard (this is the early ‘70s). During one visit to their house, he asked me of the noise emanating from his neighbour’s house, “Do you know who that is?” and of course I didn’t, as I was too young. “That's UFO,” he told me, although I was nine the wiser really, but that stuck with me. His neighbour was one Larry Wallis, who was UFO’s guitar player at the time (he went on to be in early Motörhead and The Pink Fairies). I became a UFO fan down the road a way when Schenker was playing guitar and performing his disappearing act. The above doesn’t really add anything to this thread, but it’s an anecdote I like to share.
  5. Go Mustang, full on chubby P tones in a different package.* *Just to muddy the GAS waters, you understand.
  6. If this thread proves anything, it’s that there’s a perfect looking bass for everyone and that bass will make others retch. Vive la diffence!
  7. I know they have their devotees, but I can’t help asking, “Why, just why?” 🤢
  8. Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now) - C+C Music Factory
  9. It's not just the Mustang that is ugly in my sound generation.
  10. Lee Sklar is a force of nature and a total legend. However, eventually, you can't run around the country like that and then go and pick up a truck load of gravel when you're getting on; Lee is 75! I couldn't do all that he does and I'm quite a bit younger.
  11. Despite thinking it is/was ugly, I bought a Mustang. The looks are challenging, but it grows on you and the ergonomics (upper fret access notwithstanding) seem to suit me.
  12. Given the cost of a university degree, I’ve long been touting the idea, to anyone who’ll listen to my ravings, that businesses, etc should sponsor degrees and you pay them back by working for them for a number of years. The amount of folk I know who have degrees, some of them doctorates, and are doing nothing vaguely associated with their field of study, perplexes me. Never feel like that. I learnt more by teaching some things than I ever did studying it (I suppose I was studying, just not in the traditional sense).
  13. I hated school too (well, I hated primary and tolerated secondary). Weirdly enough, my last job before retiring was teaching primary school children, which I can state categorically was the best and most rewarding job I’ve ever had (the politics, however, can go and do one).
  14. Try some sunflower oil on a piece of kitchen towel (or another light cooking oil). Sounds ridiculous, but it really works, as does tahini or smooth peanut butter, but they both leave an odour. I mentioned this fix to a friend of mine, who is a chemistry teacher and he was unsurprised and said that oils are known for their ability to break stuff down.
  15. That really is a lovely thing. As a recent short scale convert, this really tickles my GAS receptors. GLWTS.
  16. If left in close proximity like that, they'll breed. They're not to be trusted.
  17. Now, if Jens had just done the colour swatches on the body and left the pickups and fretboard as normal, that would work. A real example of less being more and more being so much less.
  18. Great intro. P bass with a pick for US punk? What’s not to like? Those Tidepool P basses are so cool, I’ve come close to buying a mostly unnecessary one of those on more than one occasion and I still keep looking (I think they look even better with a tort scratchplate, YMMV).
  19. I’m confused, I haven’t previously posted in this thread.
