  1. I haven’t watched it for a while, and can’t remember what I thought. Leave that one with me, I’ll rewatch and listen. The only thing I can recall is that Geddy struggles vocally.
  2. Exactly this ^^^^ I have had issues with flatwounds on longer scale basses with small pegs and none at all with normal pegs on short scales. If the manufacturers did short scale versions of my preferred strings I’d buy those but currently, they don’t.
  3. Not at all, just not your bag. If you don’t like Yes or Zep, you’re never going to like Rush. I do like Yes and Zep (although not all of it, not by a long chalk) so I was already predisposed to Rush I guess.
  4. Ooh, that sorts out filling any spare time I have going.
  5. Beautiful song, Peart at his lyrical best, the music isn’t bad either It’s not great, although I like the title track. I’m hoping for a remix of Clockwork Angels as I don’t like the original one, it’s just too ‘mushy’ (technical term) for me and the music deserves to breathe more. I felt that way for ages, but Planet Rock drip fed them to me and I started to like them more and more (always liked Spirit of Radio) until I started buying their albums. Already being a bit of a progger helped. The first few albums (pre Permanent Waves) is GL’s most screechy IMO, he started to calm down more and more and those are the albums I like the most. Sadly, he can’t manage those tunes now, although he tries. Like any band/artist, their work isn’t for everybody and it’s kind of nice that music has these niches (until you get the zealots chiming in). Jaco doesn’t do it for me, despite being a bass demigod, but he does for plenty of others, it’s all fine.
  6. Presto is one of my favourites (I know it is reviled by some fans) and you missed out Roll The Bones (another reviled album that I like).
  7. Fortunately, there is plenty of other music out there that you do like, Rush isn’t for everybody and it wasn’t for me for a long time (Geddy’s voice was a big barrier, but I’ve learnt to embrace it). Tell the band that you’d rather you didn’t play Rush tunes and why, plenty of other stuff, from other artists, to pick from.
  8. I'm going to ask, so that others don't need to - weight?
  9. The Streak - Ray Stevens
  10. As an ex south of the river denizen, I often visited Bromley for shopping and played the Railway Tavern. Make sure you head over to the Short Scale Appreciation Thread if you haven’t already.
  11. Closer To The Heart Spirit Of Radio Time Stand Still
  12. Ah, 70s Rush, I can understand that, even as a Rush fan. 80-93 is my favourite Rush period (Permanent Waves - Counterparts).
  13. The problem being that it's €1899, so they'll be another 25%ish on top of that
  14. More details required here I think. Great trio there.
  15. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the anniversary models, I’d like to try one.
  16. Pour Whiskey on My Grave - Jacob Bryant
  17. You had me going there for a moment, I thought someone had bought it at the death. Looking forward to the transformation.
  18. I wanted so much to see the CT conversion that I hope no one bites too. Painful for the wallet, but for the best I reckon.
  19. I was watching some of the Belladrum festival coverage yesterday. The sound was mainly thin and favouring the top end. Fatherson (guitar, bass &drum, 3 piece) came on and the bass player was using a P, nothing remarkable during the first song. For the second song, the bass player switched to a Player Mustang PJ and suddenly you could hear the bass. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make out which pickup/s were being used, but it sounded great, whereas the previous P was fairly inaudible. Certainly a win for the short scale in this instance, looked cool too.
  20. This will be interesting. Bring them on, Dad.
  21. That's just too spooky, without the name published, I wouldn't have known the difference between father and son. And that one does what it says on the tin - classy. The throb on the dub version is massive!
  22. Rocket Cathedrals - Be Bop Deluxe
  23. I still clearly remember being in the car on the way to work and being amazed by some guy playing guitar and sounding like a modern day Jimi. I was surprised when the announcer revealed it was Prince, the track was Let’s Go Crazy.
