  1. I once played a Gibson, semi acoustic guitar that had a paint job like that on the neck.
  2. Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes - Edison Lighthouse
  3. Yep, they sound like P basses. The Tribe seems to have a shade more mid range, but you probably wouldn’t notice in a mix.
  4. Wouldn’t it be Rice - The Beach Boys (BTW there was a break in the river sequence, by me, but no one saw it [page flip] or it was ignored)
  5. Soya Think I’m Sexy - Rod Stewart
  6. Yep, that’s checking in the nitrocellulose, a natural process and comes with owning a bass of this vintage. Don’t touch it, it’s part of its mojo. Custom shops recreate this effect on new, relic instruments.
  7. Indeed. This has descended into the bass equivalent of ‘my dad’s bigger than your dad’ territory. This has puzzled me for years. Given we’ve been mentioning popularity, the likes of Albert Lee and Steve Morse (both of whom I admire greatly) are pretty niche, yet their signature models exist; go figure. Going back to Tony Levin, it’s occurred to me that he’s been a MusicMan user for longer than most and perhaps, after the OLP model, he’s not comfortable with a signature model for some reason.
  8. In Seine In The Membrane - Cypress Hill
  9. Fork in the Road - Smokey Robinson and the Miracles
  10. Well found, Sir! If you can find a cheap copy (£40 on Amazon? I don't think so), I thoroughly recommend TL's, Beyond The Bass Clef. Lots of anecdotes, including the fire story, although many of them are probably there on the papabear website, in the archives.
  11. Ain't that the truth, probably not quite Lee Sklar level, but not far off. In terms of high profile, he also played for Paul Simon, John Lennon and Yes. You're right about the fire and there's a story about him sending that one back to EB because of the warped truss rod (from the fire) and them saying there was a no smoking policy in California so couldn't work on it (it's longer than that and a lot more amusing when he tells it). I'd say a 'Barbie Flesh' 'Ray 5 would be the obvious Levin signature, just like they did with the OLP.
  12. It was hearing a 5 string Midwestern played by David Byrne’s bass player on SNL that sent me down the short scale rabbit hole; a place I’m happy to be inhabiting. A Midwestern 2, with a pair of B90s would float my boat with bells on. However, the cost would sink said boat quite quickly too. Such are the vagaries of GAS and the boutique bass market. 😕
  13. I post a video with a concrete bodied guitar and no has said whether or not it’s good for rock? C’mon everyone, you’re better than this.
  14. I'm in the Mood for Dancing - The Nolans
  15. The Surrey with the Fringe on Top - Rodgers and Hammerstein
  16. That’s the kind of thing. Looks like that fretboard has been oiled way too much, it has truss rod sprout!
  17. I was thinking thick chain, screwed into the body with eyelets (I’m sure some metal guitarist has one of those, maybe Zakk?).
