  1. Huge loss to the industry, but good call on Rob’s part.
  2. My dad had an Imp and a Stiletto, so much fun to drive.
  3. That’d be a good starting point. Then you can measure the results and use them on other basses.
  4. Unless you go crazy with the truss rod of course. @Davee, don't go crazy with the truss rod adjustment, a quarter turn at a time, if required. If it won't move, don't force it, seek help.
  5. That recommended setting has had me ruching off to measure mine and, wouldn't you know it, 2.5mm at the 12th. You'd think I'd know my set up, but I measure at the 17th fret for reasons that pass understanding, or are lost in the mists of time.
  6. The configurator is a dangerous place 😬
  7. Set it up how you like it, it’s your bass, not Fender’s. My only recent Fender purchase was set up higher than I normally prefer, as was the MusicMan and I don’t like my actions ultra low. I don’t think I’ve ever had a bass that was exactly ser up as I like it out of the box.
  8. Danny’s tone is just amazing, certainly one of the reasons I’m hugely attracted to the DB. My first exposure to Danny was on David Sylvian’s Ink in the Well. I didn’t know who DT was (I’d only recently stared playing bass), but that sound! Sorry, I know this is a JM/DT thread, but I can’t not post this…
  9. Yeah, that’s a side gap. The problem that you can encounter with a side gap in the neck pocket, is when the neck/headstock receives a lateral blow and then the alignment can be askew. There is a school of thought that says the tighter the gap, the better the tone, but I’m not sure anyone has increased the gap on a well fitted neck to test the results. BTW, well played with the hyperbole, I like it.
  10. I thought it was just me. The guitar demos are OK, but the bass ones make me want to rip my ears off and throw them at the screen! Sorry for the OT rant. As you were.
  11. If it’s a side gap, a shim will merely plug the gap. FWIW, I had a ‘63 P bass that had a side gap you park a bus in (I may be exaggerating here ) but it sounded phenomenal. You should only use a shim if you can’t get the action low enough.
  12. There's No One Quite Like Gram Ma - St Winifred's School Choir
  13. That's the way I'd go. My pedalboard is set up: Sadowsky Preamp - EBS Octabass - EBS Unichorus - MXR Compressor - VTDI. This gives me all my FX, plus amp sim DIing to the desk, or my amp (or both if I'm using my rig for monitoring).
  14. Wow! That’s really poor. Replace all of them with Hipshots perhaps? I’ve certainly never had a day’s issue with them (or the Wilkinson clones TBH).
  15. I think this the source of your problem. I have a Mustang strung with EB Cobalt flats and I can get what it seems you’re after with a Tech21 VTDI.
  16. Me And You And A Dog Named Boo - Lobo
  17. Down The Boob Station At Midnight - The Jam
  18. Coming back to immediately go on the hunt for more gear, BCer to the core. 👏👏👏
  19. I have 2 basses by the same manufacturer, one has always needed occasional tweaks, whilst the other, barely ever. I guess the wood used in the neck and fretboard are more stable in the latter.
  20. I’m lucky enough to have worked with 3 of them live, one of which was the lead singer in the ‘80s covers band I was in. Not only a great vocalist, but a top keyboard player too (as seen in the video). On top of that, she’s a great vocal coach. She took me from sketchy BVs to singing lead, no mean feat I can tell you. All 4 ladies are busy musicians (as you’d expect), one of them does some very high profile work, Eurovision and the Platinum Jubilee gigs as just 2 instances. It’s been a privilege to work with them and to have been a part of the above project.
