  1. I’ve always had lined, not always by choice, but I’m OK with it. I’m the bass player, no one else other than me cares, or probably notices, even other bass players (I kid you not. I actually had a bass player once ask me how I got ‘that sound’).
  2. Just in from playing a Hogmanay gig in Dundee. It went well, even as just a 3 piece (keyboard player is always with family on NYE). Played a 2 band line up, with the other guys do trad music, laced with comedy (all a bit 1970’s), interspersed with the raffle and 2 bingo sections (give it a rest for Hogmanay ffs!). After our agreed 2 sets, we stripped down the gear and got ready to go, only for one of the committee to question the agreed timings, expecting more from us. This complete dick watched us break it all down and be out the door before saying a word. The BL kindly set up part of the PA and played some music for them, whilst waiting for the other band to play in the New Year. This a father a problem with the fee, which they were proved to be in the wrong. I suspect the bloke is a chancer and is going to try and pay us less. Good luck with that, our BL has a record of the comms and isn’t known for being a mug. I’ll hear the full story tomorrow, no doubt, as I had a long drive home and left. I’ll get my payment next time we meet up. I won’t play there again (I’ll name and shame once I’ve got my fee)!
  3. And breathe! Never thought I’d make it, but I’ve even impressed myself.
  4. I’m stronger than that, not much, but stronger.
  5. Stores are closed, I’m gigging, I’ve made it! Phew!😮‍💨
  6. The Party’s Over - Nat King Cole
  7. GAS is relentless!
  8. Just… a… few… more… hours! 😬
  9. Given the large capstans on the Fallout, I think you’ll be OK. I had EB Cobalt Flats on my SS ‘Ray and they were fine.
  10. We’re on a double bill in Dundee (an hour’s drive for me) and we have the 7-7:45 & 9:15-10:25 shifts, still fitting around the bingo (why they can’t have just one day off is beyond me) 🤦🏻. They tried it on over the fee, but the BL had all the messages agreeing to the sum and was ready to tell them to stuff it. We won’t play there again, which works for me, as I don’t like the venue particularly. I might even be home for midnight, weather permitting🤞.
  11. I find it surprising how much difference it makes, something to do with fulcrums and what not.
  12. What we often refer to as a 7th is a dominant 7th and is the 5th chord in the scale. The correct description of the 7th chord in a scale is given above.
  13. Ignore YT, stick whatever you want on it. I had a '63 P bass and used rounds all the time with that, no bother. Any damage will take years.
  14. Going to California - LZ
  15. Again. With the amount of subscribers he has, he doesn’t need to do this, but it seems that this is the furrow he wants to plough. I’m tempted to unsubscribe.
  16. Plenty of players here who have traded the skinny stringed thing for the bass, myself included.
  17. I kind of get the feeling that Scott might let her find her own way, he certainly didn’t stop her overdoing it on day one.
  18. I’m looking forward to buying anything .
  19. I learnt the basic 7 and some of the others as part of my guitar (I know), Musician’s Institute course. Never consciously used them after that. I think that they’re useful for analysing parts (I instantly recognised the use of the Phrygian for the outro of Steely Dan’s, Haitian Divorce, for instance), but for actually, in the moment playing, or writing a line, not so much. In short, I find them more of a mental exercise than a musical one.
  20. I saw on instagram that Scott Devine’s daughter received her first bass for Christmas, a Bronco. Glad to see that he is starting her on something basic. Also, the state of her very red, right hand, index finger, is testament to her in at the deep end, going for it mentality, she had to play something for the camera using her middle finger only - kudos, young lady, kudos.
  21. Pretty much what was previously referred to as AOR.
  22. Tea in the Sahara - The Police
