  1. Stir It Up - Bob Marley
  2. As it makes good click bait. His posts recently seem to have become more like this, rather than his clever analysis of songs. I’m disappointed in him.
  3. Cover Me - Bruce Springsteen
  4. I received the same as last year, sweet FA, bass related. My only gift was from my daughter, a coffee mug. I should point out that by mutual consent, Lady Ez and I stopped giving each other Christmas pressies years ago - don’t feel sorry for me. As I will not be signing up for the 2025 abstinence challenge (this year has been hard enough), I may buy myself a birthday pressie in a few weeks’ time.
  5. Wordy Rappinghood - Tom Tom Club
  6. I Missed Again - Phil Collins
  7. Couldn’t Get It Right - Climax Blues Band
  8. Replace me, why? What have you heard? 😬 In short, all too easily, I imagine.
  9. Same here, except the Rob Allen and EUB.
  10. I’ve been a big fan of EB Cobalt Flays for ages and can confirm that they work wonderfully on my Mustang.
  11. The only real difference for me, in the video and from my own personal experience, is that 34”s have more harmonic content below the 5th fret on the E string, whereas shorties are all about the fundamental in that area. The pay off is further up the neck where the long scales can be a bit plinky, the shorties still maintain that fundamental, making them more even sounding across the whole neck. This aspect also makes them react really nicely with FX, especially analogue octave boxes.
  12. My JMJ is actually heavier than all my longer scale basses. However, they are particularly light, 3 of them being chambered. But the Mustang is still a tad heavier than my Squier P bass. With all that said, the perceived weight of the Mustang feels less, due to the balance.
  13. My shorty moment was swing David Byrne and his American Utopia band on Saturday Night Live. The bear player has some sort of Horner for one song, which was nice, but when he played a 5 string Serek for the next song, I was hooked and down the rabbit hole. After trying a number of basses the JMJ was the obvious choice at the time and it’s my number one these days, in no short part to the BL in current band loving it above all the others I’ve played with them.
  14. I wish I'd discovered the joys of Shorties earlier, my collection would be shorter across the board.
  15. Give Me Back My Wig - Hound Dog Taylor/SRV
  16. This is great, well done @Bass Direct.
  17. Crawling From The Wreckage - Rockpile
  18. The ‘Ray is scaled down certainly. I’ve not seen or used a Lionel but, if the pictures are anything to go by, they are smaller than the full sized versions too.
  19. Great to see Kenny Pasarelli mentioned, I only know him through his work with Joe Walsh, but a name that has stuck in my consciousness. Murray & Johnstone, what a combo, add in Nigel Olsson and that's the backing band from heaven. What a player Dee was. Singers is a good addition to the conversation, Paul Rogers is right up there for me together with Paul Young (who cites Rogers as an influence). In terms of the way I actually sing, I'm influenced by all those, slightly warbly, baritones: Ferry, Sylvian, David Byrne, Richard Thompson, etc.
  20. Pino Palladino Tony Levin Roscoe Beck Chris Childs Chuck Rainey Six stringers: Eric Johnson Robben Ford Brian Setzer Carl Verheyen Jimmy Page
  21. Sailing on the Seven Seas - Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark
  22. Great guitars, tone wise, they out Gretsch, Electromatic Gretsch IMO.
