  1. Great playing, great tone. Passive ‘Ray FTW.
  2. This was the tuning method de jour back before electronic tuners became widely available. It was either that or the awfulness that are/were pitchpipes.
  3. Another good weight Stingray, disproving my theory that MMs are all boat anchors again. Cracking finish on that bad boy too. GLWTS and your search.
  4. The only bass I still have reservations about letting go (regret seems too strong a word) is my old ‘Ray5. I bought it 2nd hand and eventually sold it back to the seller when he enquired about it.
  5. Patrice starts to shut up shop, just as Guitar Guitar takes the brand on.
  6. Perhaps try wiring the p/up directly to the jack socket. That’ll certainly highlight if the circuit is lacking. Even bypassed you’re still going through some parts of it.
  7. Coo! That’s a great weight for any MM, let alone a fiver.
  8. Just as well as they probably don’t mean anything anyway. Outboard, river Bluetail, tailfly Luther, in time Dood'ndoodit, dah, d't-d't-dah
  9. Rocco Prestia endorsed a good many products: Fender, ESP, Conklin, SWR, TC Electronics…
  10. I used to play this in a blues band I was in many years ago. I always liked playing Tommy’s lines, his ability to just sit behind the beat and let Stevie run amok is great and an object lesson in pocket playing. Tommy and Chris Layton are one of my favourite rhythm sections. Check out their playing with Storyville, especially the Piece of Your Soul album.
  11. The 2022 abstinence thread is so far away in your rear view mirror, it’s a tiny speck. 😂 Amazing story, amazing friend. It’s the best colour too. Congrats.
  12. As much as I normally like tort on black, that black on black oozes class.
  13. I mentioned a while, back that I fitted my usual EB Cobalt flatwounds to my JMJ Mustang. When I acquired my Sterling ‘Ray SS, I immediately fitted the same to that. However, it was a 2nd hand set that weren’t as smooth as I’m used to (some roughness around where the frets of the previous bass were). Therefore, yesterday I fitted the Fender flats that came on the Mustang to the ‘Ray. Weirdly, it seems that Fender flats sound better on an EB instrument, whilst EB flats sound better on a Fender instrument. Who knew (it could just be the pickup type of course)?
  14. If an oil finish it is, try taking a nut (walnut, pecan, hazelnut, whatever you have) and rubbing the flesh lightly over the area. This works on some wooden furniture and flooring, might be worth a try.
  15. A white and maple Mullarkey is pretty much top of my GAS list.
  16. I have 4 passive basses and one Sadowsky preamp pedal, it was a lot cheaper than adding a preamp to all of them. The only downside is that adjustments on the fly are harder, but not impossible.
