  1. No, it’s an Elwood L that I’ve had for over 9 years.
  2. 🧟‍♂️ Resurrection time. 3 years have passed, but now I’m well and truly back in the fretless fold. I recently took my custom Maruszczyk fretless to a rehearsal (Stingray-alike), just to show it some love and it sounded great. I avoided slides and vibrato where possible as the genre doesn’t call for that style/tone and it just roared, there was a definite Ric vibe to the tone, especially with a bit of grit from my VTDI. I was so impressed (as were my band mates) that I used it for a gig the following Saturday, both sets. The fretted spare (my usual go to bass) stayed in its gigbag all night. Since then it is the bass that I pick up first and I’m loving it all over again. Good to be back.

  5. To my eye, it looks like it has fallen against something that has dinged the middle laminate and then scratched the adjacent wenge. The above post from @simonlittle appeared as I was typing, it seems we both think the same.
  6. Due to low ticket sales and reduced fees for all concerned, this gig is now cancelled. Can’t say that I’m too sad about it. That’s me for the year now, unless something else comes in.
  7. No More Tears - Ozzy
  8. The earth from the neck pickup is normally wired to its pot, but the nature of the metal control plate doesn’t make this an absolute, just so long as it is earthed somewhere. If you don’t access to a meter, disconnect the bridge pickup and wire the neck pickup to that pot to see if the problem goes away (dodgy pot) or remains (dodgy pickup/wiring).
  9. You’re a better man than I am. I’m at least an hour closer and haven’t given attending a second thought.
  10. I like Jim, I discovered him when he did his ‘where does tone in a guitar come from?’ video. This amp one is more of the same, but this time I already knew the answer. I talked to the amp specialist in Chandler’s about the difference in tubes and the tonal differences we hear between Marshall and Fender guitar amps. He told me that it was actually mostly about the placement of the tone stack in the circuit and this video demonstrates that perfectly. The name of that tech? Brinsley Schwarz (yes that Brinsley Schwarz), he’s an amp nut. This whole thing certainly questions the whole SS vs Valves argument, but that’s what Jim does, he challenges perceived thinking and marketing. He’s a pretty tasty player too.
  11. It would definitely influence me against being in a band with folk with extremist views and has done in the past. I was in a band where we got a new drummer in, he was OKish talent wise, but once he made a thoroughly racist comment, he was gone.

  14. Well, that took way longer than I anticipated.
  15. That would work.
