  1. The smart move is to buy one from Bass Direct (actually a better bet, post B word) then any issues are their problem. FWIW I’ve not had a day’s issue with my two custom Elwoods and my off the peg Jake (now sold) was equally fault free.
  2. I saw him at The Hammersmith Odeon in the ‘70s. I was a loud, energetic gig, unfortunately spoiled by a crap mix, where the bass bins in the PA actually made me feel nauseated. Still glad I was there though.
  3. There’s a guy on YouTube who has the most awesome tone on a JMJ, he’s strung his with GHS Boomers. I had a happy accident when I fitted the cobalts, the E string started to come unravelled within the silks as I started to fit it (a quick chop with the cutters stopped that). As I was carrying these as spares, a potential calamity was avoided. EDIT: Found one the videos
  4. First up, congratulations on securing yourself a place at ACM, well done. 👏👏👏 Secondly, happy cake day! That’s some present, very nice indeed. Your boyfriend, he’s a keeper.
  5. Having moved out of my old house 6 months ago and the majority of my belongings going into storage, I have finally been reunited with all of my stuff (way too much stuff it seems, not the bass stuff you understand ). Anyway, I cleaned the fretboard of my new JMJ Mustang with my never ending supply of lemon oil and the ‘board now looks lovely. I also restrung with a spare set of old EB cobalt flats (long scale); it sounds so good. The bodies on my other basses now seem big and cumbersome by comparison to the Mustang and just don’t have the same tonal gravitas. The JMJ is looking more and more like a keeper.
  6. Wrapped Around Your Finger - The Police
  7. Depends which bass. My newest one would be this,
  8. An old friend of mine who was fond of a beer, used a rather appropriate collective noun - A Belly of Bass Players.
  9. Dirty Cash - The Adventures of Stevie V
  10. The pickup in the JMJ is a bit special and you can’t buy as an upgrade from Seymour Duncan (yet). Also, the build quality on the JMJ is very good indeed, coupled with quality hardware. My only complaint with mine is that the relic dings are often too uniform and start to form a pattern (nails on a roller type of thing). But that’s only when you start looking up close. Other than that, I’m very, very impressed with mine, even the nitro finish on the neck seems to have been dried correctly (something my old RoadWorn P fell short on) and doesn’t stick to my hand after playing for a while (I have a history of this with nitro including, Gibson and PRS). I can’t comment on the Performer as I haven’t played one. I have played the Vintera version, which was rather good and the Performer should be an upgrade from that (you’d hope).
  11. Nice one, Phil. I will definitely check it out. Thanks for sharing.
  12. Flightcase + PB300 here. I’ve previously owned a Cub and a Bass Buddy. Yeah, I’m a fanboy.
  13. Thank heavens I’ve moved. That is only a leisurely 45 minute drive from the former Ez Towers. I reckon there’s a few grand to be added just yet.
