  1. Neither the official Wishbone Ash (Andy Powell) or Martin Turner ‘plays’ Wishbone Ash (a very acrimonious court case said that MT can’t call his band WA) are as good as the tribute band, Ashbone U Wish, IMO. Both of the ‘name’ bands are missing something and that something is each other, but that’ll never happen now. I’ve seen both the AP & MT incarnations (probably more than any other band) numerous times and I’ve always been disappointed sadly. AUW we’re always spot on and their bass player, who is a member here, even depped for Bob Skeat on one the tours. Sorry to just drop in widdle over the OP’s fireworks, if anyone enjoys either incarnation, I’m genuinely happy for you and a little envious too. Argus and New England are my favourite WA albums.
  2. Old Man - Neil Young
  3. God Loves A Drunk - Richard Thompson
  4. Digging on James Brown - Tower of Power
  5. What a superb, comparison demo. That’s how it should be done. Kudos, Good Sir. 👏👏👏 I really like that Eko.
  6. That’s how I read it.
  7. Hanging Around - The Stranglers
  8. Yep, Bobby V turns it round from the pointy end as does guitarist (yes, I know, but he is a bit good) Robben Ford. Oh yeah, I do too! I find it gives a softer attack, whilst also feeling more comfy.
  9. Neither are particularly vintage, but the Hipshot A comes in a number of widths, whilst the Schaller is adjustable. https://hipshotproducts.com/collections/bass-bridges/products/a-style-bass-bridge https://schaller.info/en/bridges/337/3d-4?c=52
  10. Great introduction, Maarten. That’s how it should be done.
  11. Sick Again - LZ
  12. Bohemian Like You - The Dandy Warhols
  13. Red Rain, Sledgehammer (of course), Steam, Shaking the Tree. His solo album ‘Resonator’ is marvellous.
  14. Did you pay the low estimate the lady on the phone quoted, or did Ron & Reggie ask for more?
  15. “We ‘ave yer bass, but there’s been some unforeseen costs, ain’t there, Reg?” ”Yeah, Ron. Ha ha!”

    Drop C#

And that’s before you get into the region of double sharps/flats, which I don’t understand at all, other than it’s modal.
  17. That’s the badger! photo from Talkbass, not mine.
  18. Just typed ‘live environment’ in a thread but autocorrect decided it should be ‘love envelope’ :lol:

If you can get a "love envelope" - do you post it using a Sex stamp?

Hah. Was it a First Large or Special Delivery?

Sure, it works in your bedroom.  But does it still growl in a love envelope?

  19. I went to see Big Country last night and whilst that classic BG guitar tone was there in spades, the FOH guys seem to bury Scott Whitley’s bass in the frequency the bass drum was occupying (why do they do this?). Anyway, today I thought I’d check out a live version of their eponymous song to see if that great tone on the album was actually achievable in a live environment. Yes it was and then some! Mr Butler, please take the stage and growl away, Sir.
  20. Accidents Will Happen - Elvis Costello
  21. I’m looking forward to any NBD threads that may have come of today’s event. I hope you all had a great time.
  22. Love Cats - The Cure
  23. Surfing with the Alien - Joe Satriani
  24. That’s a cracker and I thoroughly approve of the reverse P.
  25. It’s still just pop music though. Don’t get me wrong, I really like pop music. Don’t get me started on musicals and the unoriginality of a great many of the modern ones, either stage or film. Just a soundtrack of previously released material with a flimsy storyline. Full disclosure - I can count on the fingers of one hand the musicals I actually like. I’m not a fan.
