  1. This was how I ended up with my '63 P. I had gone up town to buy a '50s reissue. Found one in Denmark St, London and thought it was nice enough. However, as I'd made the effort to go uptown, I thought I'd pop over to The Bass Centre that was in E1 at the time. They didn't have a '50s RI, but there was a tatty looking old P hanging up and I asked if I could give it a go. It was amazing, despite its extremely road worn appearance. Sounded like every top class P bass recording I'd ever heard and was lovely to play. Other basses of the same vintage may be dogs. That said, my new JMJ Mustang nails that same tone and feel at a fraction of the cost.

  4. I always fancied one of these myself, as they’re perfect for my cod, jazz noodlings. Nice score, congrats.
  5. Posh (Port Out Starboard Home) - Lionel Jeffries
  6. I've finally got around to looking at this. Lining up the Performer P/J config Mustang with a Vintera, one pickup one, reveals that the bridge p/up would need to go hard up against the bigger bridge plate of the normal Mustang. This is also born out if you resize a 34" P/J Precision to 30' scale and line it up at the nut, 12th fret and bridge (although the Mustang's pickup does sit a little north of the Precision position). Using a '50s reissue as a source image for the pickup gives us this... Because of the string spacing, there is a wee gap in the mockup, but you get the idea. I've added an extra knob rather than get into cloning a 3 way toggle on. I don't think it looks too bad from an aesthetic standpoint.
  7. Gah! Maximum suckage. 😤 Still, as @adamg67 says, it’s just stuff, nobody died and, hopefully, another Wal will come up soon, especially as you’re not fussed as to what Mk it is. 🤞
  8. I've Gotta Get a Message to You - Bee Gees
  9. Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves - Eurythmics & Aretha
  10. I’m looking at one of these as there’s a new edition out now and the original mini is reduced in price. I’m not really looking to program stuff, just to have a decent beat for practice and possibly use as a basic backing for recording with some fills & transitions.
  11. Friday on My Mind - The Easybeats & others
