    As you were a drummer previously, you’re at an advantage to most newbies. Lots of folk here play, or played, more than just bass. Those Shine basses are rather good IIRC, punching way above their price point.

    It’s good fun. When I was in my ‘80s covers band, I was all over trying to get the right look: linen jacket with rolled up sleeves; high top trainers; silly, baggy pants with crazy designs on them and the piece de resistance… Dodgy ‘misplaced childhood’ type jacket.

    I used to use Allianz, the cover was good, the price was OK. However, as I never had to make a claim, I can’t speak as to the really important bit.

    Lightweight, powerful and sit brilliantly in the mix. Don’t sound great when played isolated at home, but in a band situation they are the mutt’s dangly bits.

    Music first, always. I was in a Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers tribute, we didn’t dress up at all (other than TP and Mike Campbell, they were quite nondescript) but we aimed to get the music as spot on as possible. It’s nice if the front person/s make an effort, not so it’s a parody, but it doesn’t really matter if they just go on as themselves.

    Indeed and you’re in that there London (like what I was up until last year), so having a try would be easy. I’m now 500 miles away (cue The Proclaimers). My mother in law used to live in Pinner.

    This seems to be BJ & Co’s new guidance, “It’s up to you now, not our problem or fault if it goes tîts up.” British common sense will prevail apparently. Not holding my breath, but perhaps I should.
