  1. Love Ray Brown's tone in that last video. Hardly surprising when this is what I think is the pinnacle of DB tone.
  2. Here's the relative position of the pickups on a Mustang, Jake, P bass, and Lionel, resized to be the same scale length. The Jake is more in the Mustang position.
  3. The recently released, improved Harley Benton Mustang-alike would be a solid buy https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_mv_4msb_burgundy_mist.htm
  4. The lowest profile would be the DiMarzio system that screws the strap direct to the body https://www.dimarzio.com/straps/accessories/extra-long-fasteners-cliplock-guitar-straps . However, the Grolsch bottle washer or similar are my go to solution, having used both Schaller and Dunlop systems in the past.
  5. Just seen a post on the Mustang FB group page, by someone who bought one, that the Gator Jazzmaster bag, mentioned above, is a good fit.
  6. Rob Allen’s basses get pretty close, especially in a mix.
  7. If your dad buys gear, that’s fine, providing it isn’t for you
  8. Meat on the Ledge - Fairport Convention
  9. I have been in 2 bands where the band leaders were getting out of hand. Being an older guy and not willing to put up with their shenanigans, I told them, in a not so roundabout way, to shove. I’ve played with one of them since and he’s a much better person and didn’t hold a grudge, the other one, however, is still a butt hole as band mates worked with him and reported that nothing had changed (I did warn them).
  10. This just appeared in the Bass Direct, weekly email, by coincidence https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/product/gator-4g-jazzmaster-guitar-gig-bag/
  11. I have the Fender SS bag, a Protection Racket one (now discontinued I think) and 2 Maruszczyks. The Fender is the best fit of the bunch.
  12. As soon as GG in Edinburgh get a V2 Cali76 in, I’m done.
  13. Rather by small increments and then it was done. Having said that, we’ve not actually, officially split up. We were unable to commit to some gigs due to the lead singer’s availability being torn between several outlets, then Covid hit, we did an outdoor livestream, I moved to to Scotland and the keyboard player moved to Blackpool (we were a London/Surrey based band), so being a working band became moot. I still love all those guys and hope we might play the occasional reunion gig. In fact, I was listening to our demo on the way home, last night and I was struck by how good we were (IMO of course). Here’s an example:
  14. Shallow - Lady GaGa and Bradley Cooper
  15. I am not normally a fan of shorts being worn for a gig (Robert Trujillo gets a pass for being a cool, surf dude) but you, Sir, pull it off, very well. Kudos.
  16. Skating Away (on the Thin Ice of a New Day) - Jethro Tull
  17. How did it go? Well, there was dancing and whooping and clapping, but what it sounded like is a mystery. The venue has its own PA and the management set the levels via a tablet (except the bass, which no one told me to turn up or down) and the PA was too loud for me, painful at times, even with earplugs and I had to strain to hear my rig, which was right behind me (very small performance area). Turning on the VTDI added some top end that helped but I didn’t want a driven signal for all the tunes. Once we stopped playing, the place emptied, so it’s nice to think they stayed for us. Usual incomprehensible conversations with well oiled punters before the last set, I nodded and smiled.
  18. Spice Up Your Life - The Spice Girls
